    Haryanvi people are very simple and pure. Yes they are rigid in their tradition but everything changes with time and they have changed and changing like all the other places in India.

    Wow, i got the shivers on my spine from the beautiful landscape combined with the music. What a beautiful people. Some days ago I already dreamed about a buffalo in my house.... very calm and wondering what it means.... Thank you for sharing this journey to the roots of Vinods family. In no-covid times we would be on holiday in Patnem, feeding the cows and the !!!! 12 cats of the neighborhood. And every sunday afternoon listening to the music form the Saraswati temple. Mother India you nourrish my happiness.

    Hi Johanna,
    I belong to Haryana and now living in Vancouver. You are doing such a great job showing the real side of Haryana. I feel nostalgic watching your videos.
    A little suggestion: talk to more and more ladies there, coz their voices aren't heard enough I believe.
    Thank you for all the hard work that you put in ☺️
    Also, blessings to you, Vinod and the the little one( who I already love btw)

    really loved your village vlogs. you showed a different picture of haryana villages, really beautiful. before this all I knew aboutharyana villages where ghap panchayats and people who stick their caste names on their vehicles. apparently that is the only thing media shows . I think you might be the first youtuber who showed haryanvi villages this beautifully. all videos in this series where really beautiful. fan from kerala.

      @@JohannaNorth the best part about your vlogs are they helps us to find similarities among us. the more I watch your vlogs I feel like there are more in common between haryana and kerala villages , the never ending visits to relatives houses, confusing family relations, packing local products for relatives staying far away etc. all are same here as well. when it is ghee in haryana it might be bananas, jackfruits or mangoes in kerala. but when media shows something they make us feel the space so alien. the best example for media stereotyping is there was a serial 'balika vadhu' telecasted in kerala, it was the dubbed version of a hindi serial , it was very populer here and it showed the village life of rajastan and haryana. all it showed was the girls being killed, forced child marriages, terrifiying caste hierarchy, girls deprived of education and so on. but when you showed the very smart sunil , sakshi and their beautiful school, I understood how ignorant I was. thank you for giving us a more clear picture of haryana villages.

    • @JohannaNorth
      @JohannaNorth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cp-cr1bh I totally agree with you. It is so sad that the media highlights only the worst parts of a culture. Of course there are some not so likeable parts in a culture, but there are many more good things too. But negative emotions are better at catching eyeballs, and thus more revenue for the media channels :(
      I remember when there was the incident of the killing of the killing of the elephant in Kerala, the media hyped it so much, as if that's how elephants are being treated in the whole of Kerala!
      Anyway, I'm trying my best to highlight the good aspects of the places I get to visit and live. I'm really glad you liked the vlogs :D

    • @cp-cr1bh
      @cp-cr1bh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JohannaNorth Yes, the national media even tried to communalise the elephant issue, as if the muslims are triying to kill the hindu elephants [dont know when did elephants started to have religion] . even though the incident took place in Palakkad the Malapuram got all the criticism just because it was a muslim majority district. Indian medias are no more about ethics all they care is trp. it is a great relief that we have people like you who spreads positivity and brings people together, and thank you for replying my comments.

      I don’t consider it ”changing myself” if I go to someone’s home and show respect to their customs 😊 wearing the scarf on my head is my own personal choice, nothing that I’m forced to do. I’m being myself by doing it. But i wouldn’t do purdah, because that goes against my principles

      @@JohannaNorth Good answer, Johanna. In other countries there are other customs that are observed in similar ways. In Japan, even though I don't do so in my home, I always take my shoes off inside a house, wear only socks on tatami mats and have a different pair of plastic slippers for the toilet room. There are also strict dress codes for work and other occasions. If you flaunt them it doesn't do you any favours.
      I have also removed my shoes and covered my head when visiting Sikh temples or mosques. I think the choice to cover one's head as a woman is situational and that no one should judge another person's choices when it comes to showing respect for the place and the people you are visiting.

    In fact, it is new system. Otherwise there is a proverb saying "Dudh ghee ka khana, to samjho haryana" Earlier guests were greeted with lassi or chach or mattha (both are same) but, nowadays tea has replaced them. Also sometimes the cold drinks been served.
