I think people underestimate Rhodey's importance a lot in these movies...he was Tony's best friend since high school, he always got his back and saved him everytime Tony got into trouble....in this case, Rhodey is again Tony's guardian angel, protecting him from the government's and army's evil intent on trying to attack Tony, his experience in military and his skills are shown throughout the movies...he definitely deserved to have the War Machine suit, he earned it long ago.

So far in Phase 4, the most successful movies have been the ones that don't force jokes. In Dr.Strange, there was a scene after the car crash, Dr.Strange got the story from one intern about the guy who recovered from torn spine. After receive the medical records he came and this guy blame him for not saved him at that moment. But Strange replied by proved that his spine was torn apart in multiple section and its a miracle for him to survived. I believe the poor guy on that clip was the guy told Dr.Strange to came to The Ancient One.

The fact that they were so desperate to turn off and dismiss the evidence Tony provided, is a sign that Tony not only won the battle but he won the war too.
This is one of those moments that proves Tony is the smartest person in the world. He was sitting a room where everyone except Rhodey was against him. And within 15 seconds he took control of the room, and turn them to his side to the point they were giving him a standing ovation. As he said himself: "What more do you want?!"

Just something that I thought I'd point out: All of the footage from the various countries and even Hammer were from Tony's personal phone, possibly from his personal server mentioned in IM1. Which means that he's been actively keeping a very close and a very good eye on people trying to copy the Iron Man tech. And doing a better job at it than the actual government and military. Tony knows exactly how badly literally *anyone else* having his suit tech would be. He may play it off in a funny, blaze way, a childish, selfish jerk being difficult and sticking his finger to authority, but he knows. He's very acutely aware of the danger, the potential abuse, the sheer destructive capability, everything what he's made is capable of. And he knows he's the only thing stopping it from getting into the wrong hands. Everyone's claims of Tony not taking the Armors existence and danger potential seriously enough are nothing short of brain-dead idiots. He was, albeit in his own way. Always had been. Tony was looking out for the world, to protect it from the crap he introduced to it, long before he really had any responsibility to do so. It would have been so easy for him to just not care, to go "Not my fault they copied me." But he never did, because Tony always had the heart of a hero. a protector. Tony was always there for the world. While simultaneously making most of said world want to punch him in his face. An absolute icon.
And yet with that level of higher-than-high-tech surveillance, "keeping a very close and a very good eye on people," he was unable to see that large portions of S.H.I.E.L.D. had been taken over by HYDRA.

Rhodes actually came close to handing the Iron Man tech on a silver platter over to Hydra when he took one of Tony's suit. Or maybe Rhodes already did but Hydra wasn't able to reverse engineer the suit.

That's why wakanda has airships that would require a nuclear fusion power source to work, much like Stark's arc reactor. I'm not denying that Shuri is a genius cos she defo is. But she had the one material that makes everything easier. Stark built a pocket sized version of the arc reactor in a cave, went on to refine it and built iron-man suits powered by it. The nano-suit is extra special because jarvis is connected to every nano-bot so it can freely adapt and change to suit every and any situation. It is much more than just armour. If stark had vibranium his suit would literally be invisible lol. The black panther suit is nothing more than armour. It can't do anything beside storing itself in the necklace and redirecting kinetic energy. So I think stark made a superior suit with worse materials at hand. In Shuri's defense Stark has many years of experience on her.
The reason Tony won against a whole court is simple: he presented visual unbiased evidence to the people to prove his arguments, while the government presented fake propaganda without any evidence to back it up. I also love the fact that Tony quotes Churchill in this scene (by saying 'I privatized world peace' and making the V sign), and quotes Chamberlain in Age of Ultron (by saying 'Peace in our time' while creating Ultron with Bruce).
The way Iron Man was grounded in reality by a relatively realistic depiction of the US military and governmental process make Tony Stark even more badass. The later Marvel movies entirely sideline world governments in a way that requires the suspension of disbelief in an already fantastical narrative.
It basically breaks any concept of a national response. Once Thanos snapped his fingers and threw entire nations into chaos, only for the Avengers to bring everyone back in five years, is any government going to hold legitimacy?
I honestly feel like one of the big points behind Civil War and its aftermath was to completely shatter the illusion that world Governments held any power over the Avengers and the MCU as a whole. They tried, and it shattered the team, and even Tony was flipping them off to do what he wanted by the end of the movie.

This was a great strategy actually. When you know you're in the right and you're enemies attempt to gaslight public opinion about you, the best way to counter it is with self-evident truths. That's why you also want to live your life doing as few reprehensible things as possible so you can simply show people your life and welcome them to judge you. Public pressure will always terrify politicians.
Is it even a strategy??? A strategy is meant to give an advantage toward a rather difficult enemies, and you still have a great chance to lose. I mean, when you have far more superiors technology and intels, you already win.
To help with the context of this scene - this isn't a jury trial, it's a Senate hearing. Those are just witnesses/reporters/etc.. The significance of this scene is that the senators could theoretically take Iron Man suits away from Tony but he made it politically suicidal to do it because he has the entire nation's will behind him. That was why he showed them clips of stuff and made a show for the public behind him.
This really is a satisfying scene. Imagine being so awesomely arrogant (in the best way possible), that you can say "no, fuck you" to the government (who are secretly the bad guys). I freaking love it.

Chronologically it doesn't make sense, this was 6 years before the events of Dr. Strange. Also, Hammer mentioned that the test pilot survived, so it is extremely likely he had already gotten treatment. ALSO, it is pretty widely known that Strange was referring to Rhodey's crash from Civil War in that scene.

@@kbanghart I think the point the original commenter was trying to make was about the recent creative direction the MCU has taken towards, well, as you mentioned---the multiverse---with all these interconnecting narratives, and arguably overly confusing timelines. The reason some people, and I think the commenter above, enjoyed the original MCU movies, with self contained, grounded storylines, was because of their connection to our world as it exists in the modern day. Including of course, a government that moves and acts as a force of authority (albeit undermined by Stark's technology, and their limited knowledge of the scale of their universe), one that makes use political processes, and bureaucratic solutions. It seems the Avengers now eclipse much regulation, and have been in a way integrated with our peace keeping world-saving organizations so much so that they need no longer be made the focus. There, the viewer gets to see how the fantastical element of this superhero world interacts with our existing establishments and diplomatic processes. It's fascinating in and of itself to view how our systems hold up to the stresses of unknown and emerging technology in the real world, like AI, but to be able to see how the US military and the DOD, an organization so vast and influential, would react to sci fi tech, and the possibility that they've been eclipsed in R&D by measurable centuries is such a fun thought experiment. How the MCU is held down to our modern day governmental and institutional standards is a big reason I watched the original films. Recently, (assumably because they needed an expansion and evolution of their narrative) the MCU has expanded to the point of becoming an acid trip of a watch for someone who couldn't follow the logic of the most basic time travel movie. The narratives are intertwined to the point of undermining the integrity of individual stories. It feels like invented institutions and branches of government have emerged without much of the expected bureaucratic hell-scape of regulation they would likely be. They act with a sort of impunity, which although in canon their actions are explained by some loose directives or by-laws, don't feel grounded to actual legal procedure. They have become essentially troops of thug-like goons with no gov. pencil pushers to cap their power. In short, I am a huge nerd for political, bureaucratic, and diplomatic processes, and how the supernatural and sci fi tether to the modern day, and would love to see that come back.

In Dr.Strange, there was a scene after the car crash, Dr.Strange got the story from one intern about the guy who recovered from torn spine. After receive the medical records he came and this guy blame him for not saved him at that moment. But Strange replied by proved that his spine was torn apart in multiple section and its a miracle for him to survived. I believe the poor guy on that clip was the guy told Dr.Strange to came to The Ancient One.

Just something that I thought I'd point out: All of the footage from the various countries and even Hammer were from Tony's personal phone, possibly from his personal server mentioned in IM1. Which means that he's been actively keeping a very close and a very good eye on people trying to copy the Iron Man tech. And doing a better job at it than the actual government and military.
Tony knows exactly how badly literally *anyone else* having his suit tech would be. He may play it off in a funny, blaze way, a childish, selfish jerk being difficult and sticking his finger to authority, but he knows. And he knows he's the only thing stopping it from getting into the wrong hands.

Tony was looking out for the world, to protect it from the crap he introduced to it, long before he really had any responsibility to do so. It would have been so easy for him to just not care, to go "Not my fault they copied me." But he never did, because Tony always had the heart of a hero. a protector.

I think it actually works nicely and adds to Hammer's character. He clearly despises Tony but this shows he despises those senators just as much and finds it hilarious when Tony begins to humiliate them.
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man is just one of those characters that makes you smile whenever he's on screen. Seriously nailed it.

@@LearningAI im not sure of how it works but I know that vibranium can even be used to either create power or store it or both. That's why wakanda has airships that would require a nuclear fusion power source to work, much like Stark's arc reactor. I'm not denying that Shuri is a genius cos she defo is. But she had the one material that makes everything easier. Stark built a pocket sized version of the arc reactor in a cave, went on to refine it and built iron-man suits powered by it. The nano-suit is extra special because jarvis is connected to every nano-bot so it can freely adapt and change to suit every and any situation. It is much more than just armour. If stark had vibranium his suit would literally be invisible lol. The black panther suit is nothing more than armour. It can't do anything beside storing itself in the necklace and redirecting kinetic energy. So I think stark made a superior suit with worse materials at hand. In Shuri's defense Stark has many years of experience on her.
Still might not be enough with 100 of metal men flying around, like ultron but being able to think for themselves.

The reason Tony won against a whole court is simple: he presented visual unbiased evidence to the people to prove his arguments, while the government presented fake propaganda without any evidence to back it up.
I also love the fact that Tony quotes Churchill in this scene (by saying 'I privatized world peace' and making the V sign), and quotes Chamberlain in Age of Ultron (by saying 'Peace in our time' while creating Ultron with Bruce).
FWIW, the people presenting that fake propaganda without evidence were compromised by Hydra.

The way Iron Man was grounded in reality by a relatively realistic depiction of the US military and governmental process make Tony Stark even more badass. The later Marvel movies entirely sideline world governments in a way that requires the suspension of disbelief in an already fantastical narrative.
It basically breaks any concept of a national response. Once Thanos snapped his fingers and threw entire nations into chaos, only for the Avengers to bring everyone back in five years, is any government going to hold legitimacy?
I honestly feel like one of the big points behind Civil War and its aftermath was to completely shatter the illusion that world Governments held any power over the Avengers and the MCU as a whole. They tried, and it shattered the team, and even Tony was flipping them off to do what he wanted by the end of the movie.
Well, once Asgard got involved, what could governments do?

This was a great strategy actually. When you know you're in the right and you're enemies attempt to gaslight public opinion about you, the best way to counter it is with self-evident truths. That's why you also want to live your life doing as few reprehensible things as possible so you can simply show people your life and welcome them to judge you. To help with the context of this scene - this isn't a jury trial, it's a Senate hearing. Those are just witnesses/reporters/etc.. The significance of this scene is that the senators could theoretically take Iron Man suits away from Tony but he made it politically suicidal to do it because he has the entire nation's will behind him. That was why he showed them clips of stuff and made a show for the public behind him.

Chronologically it doesn't make sense, this was 6 years before the events of Dr. Strange. Also, Hammer mentioned that the test pilot survived, so it is extremely likely he had already gotten treatment. ALSO, it is pretty widely known that Strange was referring to Rhodey's crash from Civil War in that scene.

@@kbanghart I think the point the original commenter was trying to make was about the recent creative direction the MCU has taken towards, well, as you mentioned---the multiverse---with all these interconnecting narratives, and arguably overly confusing timelines.
The reason some people, and I think the commenter above, enjoyed the original MCU movies, with self contained, grounded storylines, was because of their connection to our world as it exists in the modern day. Including of course, a government that moves and acts as a force of authority (albeit undermined by Stark's technology, and their limited knowledge of the scale of their universe), one that makes use political processes, and bureaucratic solutions.
It seems the Avengers now eclipse much regulation, and have been in a way integrated with our peace keeping world-saving organizations so much so that they need no longer be made the focus.
There, the viewer gets to see how the fantastical element of this superhero world interacts with our existing establishments and diplomatic processes. It's fascinating in and of itself to view how our systems hold up to the stresses of unknown and emerging technology in the real world, like AI, but to be able to see how the US military and the DOD, an organization so vast and influential, would react to sci fi tech, and the possibility that they've been eclipsed in R&D by measurable centuries is such a fun thought experiment.
How the MCU is held down to our modern day governmental and institutional standards is a big reason I watched the original films. Recently, (assumably because they needed an expansion and evolution of their narrative) the MCU has expanded to the point of becoming an acid trip of a watch for someone who couldn't follow the logic of the most basic time travel movie. The narratives are intertwined to the point of undermining the integrity of individual stories. It feels like invented institutions and branches of government have emerged without much of the expected bureaucratic hell-scape of regulation they would likely be. They act with a sort of impunity, which although in canon their actions are explained by some loose directives or by-laws, don't feel grounded to actual legal procedure. They have become essentially troops of thug-like goons with no gov. pencil pushers to cap their power.
In short, I am a huge nerd for political, bureaucratic, and diplomatic processes, and how the supernatural and sci fi tether to the modern day, and would love to see that come back.
