    Thanks so much for arranging my little tune - and for taking the time to do it so seriously. The harmonies sound great, and I really learned a lot! Thanks also for the channel itself, it's a gem! Also, a great, big thank you to Patricio and Gabriel for the lovely playing!

    Thank you Alex (and thanks to the musicians, too). Very interesting. I appreciate that you explain step-by-step your way of thinking and arranging. Kind of inspires me to try it myself (on my rather low level).

      Thank you. Yes please do try it! Make sure to watch my 'how I try and harmonize like gil: the basics' and then try it on a simple tune like I got rhythm, or Georgia. Then feel free to send it to me

    The bass clarinet is such a killer sound in this. It's breakaway moments are fantastic!!

    It's so generous of you again to share your creative thoughts with us, Alex. Beautiful result!
    @ Patricio: as I play the saxophone myself, I have to say that I really like your sound and style - einfach wunderbar!

    That's an awesome video! Thank you so much. I have a question. You write a 5 part arrangement but in the recording there's 6 horns. Is the clarinet doubling the lead alto at the same octave? Thank you again. E.

    Do you have a link with all of the submissions? I would be interested in using one of the submissions along with the techniques in this video for some practice.

      No I don’t sorry, but on my Kofi page there is a link to a free download called ‘Easy Living challenge’. That is one you could do. Then you could compare yours to the video. If that isn’t what you are looking for, let me know I’ll suggest some tunes for you to try.

    the moment you put the first two sixteenth notes in the bass line i noticed parallel fiths lol, is this ever a consideration?

    • @gilevansinsideout
      @gilevansinsideout  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes it is actually. Good spotting. I usually avoid parallel 5ths and octaves in the outer voices, but in this instance I thought it was ok.

    The elements harmonize with each other but it lacks important elements that make good music - evoking of good feelings whether through the ideas, movements or whatever else. The composition seems arbitrary in a sense, created through reason and making decisions like putting things together in a puzzle, as opposed to a method of creation led by feelings and concepts.

      This man is out here making great educational content and you really feel the need to type something like this? If something doesn't "evoke good feelings" in you, doesn't mean it does the same to everyone else. Go gatekeep music somewhere else, please.

      Thanks for your thoughts, it's a 16 bar exercise really. This sort of exercise is meant to show people some other techniques and sounds which they might like to try. Once it has been absorbed into their own toolkit the creator can decide how, and where to use them (if at all) in an emotive composition.

      @@gabrielcassaro - I'm just pointing out that music created in arbitrary fashion sounds arbitrary.
