My God....it always gives me chills when Brad goes up there and gets those high notes in the 2nd verse. No autotune, no super-producers like todays pop "stars" have...just pure unadulterated TALENT! A voice from Heaven called back home far too early. R.I.P. Brad Delp.
The "called back home" framing is a little trickier when it's a suicide -- BUT I couldn't agree more about Brad's singing! This song is an underrated "B-side" in Boston's repertoire. The orchestration is expertly done: from the initial tom "flam" (0:42) that hints at the imminent transition, into a soulful and passionate guitar solo that winds its way through different keys to tell a story before "bursting" into the bright blue sky of Brad's soaring vocals. Such a great song!
i sincerly hope brad found his destination in heaven his vocals were a inspration to me since the first time i heard him no matter what band he played with!
Destination gave me strength and the direction I need to take when I was 20's. Now I'm closer to my destiny where the rest of the journey will hopefully lead to a comfortable death with no regret. I thank you to make me through the days and then now. Thank you, Boston.
Always will have an amazing voice. I understand suicide and still pray the lord does. I think tech is mark of beast and some believers left behind. But only the obes god knows can handle it. Its the only thing that geats me thru some days!
OMG. Here we go,. Again.😪 Another One! . Great Songs.!! Where would we You or I without This Incredible Band.? This is The 70s✌️ COOL. Couldn't swing a sword and make this one any better. Kinda brings back the feelin of bein at the old skinny dipping hole with my beautiful girl friend having a picnic beneath the stars, and rockin out to some solid Brad Delp tunes.
@procrastinatingsfun A variation of "Amanda" makes it my favorite Boston song. It's just a shame it isn't longer. Amanda was written 6 years before this, Boston revisited it for Third Stage
Brad Delp wł. (RiP) Bradley Delp voc.,g.,ur.12.06.1951r. świętuje swoje urodziny z aniołami w niebie a nam pozostało słuchać jego wspaniałych dokonań !.
@KarmicOmen In the sleeve, I believe Tom Scholz explains the similar melody being like a reprise of 'Amanda...." if I'm not mistaken, both songs were written in different years..."Amanda" dates as far back as 1981. I don't quite remember what year "My Destination" was initially penned...given the rather conceptual nature of "Third Stage," the fact there's similarity gives it thematic cohesion. :)
@procrastinatingsfun its on the same record and if you listen to the entire record from first sont to last you will see that it is a concept album. Amanda opens the album and this song closes it. It was on purpose that it sounded the same. They work as bookends for all the tracks between them.
I guess you could call this a "coda" or "reprise" to Amanda, for lack of a better term. If my dusty old memory serves me, when this was on vinyl (yeah kiddies, I AM so old I had vinyl lp's lol) "My Destination" was the final cut on the album. Whenever my Program Director (boss at radio station) would let me get away with it, I'd try to play Amanda followed immediately by Destination. Great songs both!
Just got my tickets to see them in Nampa, Idaho on 9/3/2014!!! Saw them waaaaay back a couple of times. Won't be the same without Brad, but still going to be a great show, no doubt about it. My Destination!! And John0763, I fully agree with you about Third Stage being a "concept album".
@procrastinatingsfun I would call it a reprise. It was at the end of side one of the Third Stage album.Side one,to me, seemed almost like one song with various movements on the same theme.
who are you talking about? Amanda was written by Tom Sholz. but yes My Destination is just another version of Amanda. I think they needed another song for the album so Amanda was an inspiration for this one.
Is there a reason that this sounds SOO similar to their song Amanda? I mean its practically a carbon copy. Is it a lead in to the other song or did Boston accidentally plaigerise themselves?

I've heard that one result of technology is that ghost musicians are out of a job, because technology can now make ANYONE sound good.

A philosophy to live by!!!
My Destination is inside, Right by your side....
You’re right.

Did not hear you thank jesus!!!

Always will have an amazing voice. I understand suicide and still pray the lord does. I think tech is mark of beast and some believers left behind. But only the obes god knows can handle it. Its the only thing that geats me thru some days!

Boston is amazing \m/
I actually walked down the aisle to this song.
I'm in love with his voice...
Couldn't swing a sword and make this one any better. Kinda brings back the feelin of bein at the old skinny dipping hole with my beautiful girl friend having a picnic beneath the stars, and rockin out to some solid Brad Delp tunes.

This song was the "B" side to the top 40 smash hit "Amanda".
I love Brad's voice 👏

Are you on the radio in Atlanta? A while back, someone played “Amanda,” followed by “My Destination”. It made my day hearing that song on the radio!
How was the show???
I used to live in Nampa! I love Boston as well, got to see them in SLC Utah this year.
awesome!
Besties
Autos do destino.
This song is later in the album, Amanda is first, though it goes great as a leadup to Amanda.
I love how they use the melody from Amanda
AMANDA ... Last Number 1 song on the billboard charts that did NOT have an MTV type video,,,,,
@procrastinatingsfun I would call it a reprise. It was at the end of side one of the Third Stage album.Side one,to me, seemed almost like one song with various movements on the same theme.
the beging sounds like amanda but its still excellent:)
Prelude to Amanda?
amanda, from my understanding was his girl...she died, while the album was being imagined., he then wrote my destination...
She didn't die. She was a girlfriend that left him heartbroken.
@BostonWalksOn YES!!!
who are you talking about? Amanda was written by Tom Sholz. but yes My Destination is just another version of Amanda. I think they needed another song for the album so Amanda was an inspiration for this one.
for.........sweet DEBBY V LINT ,my sweet inspiriation (Netherlands DUTCH girl) Who totally takes my breath away...............Love , wayne .d (vancouver. bc.canada)

This song is a variation of "Amanda."
@spiderdragon1969 I hear ya
Amanda??
impresarulxyz
It's a reprise of Amanda
Sounds alot like amanda
Anyone else notice a different song in the very first 0:00 - 0:02 ?
Michael Ferragamo I think it's "Cool the engines" from the same album
Is there a reason that this sounds SOO similar to their song Amanda? I mean its practically a carbon copy. Is it a lead in to the other song or did Boston accidentally plaigerise themselves?
@Beckysickles the comments i made were about brad delp the singer for boston.
hes gone now too , unfortunately, but, hes with amanda
He's not Brad Delp
Love8Os what you mean?
John0763 this wasn't the last song hollyann was
+Colin O'Shea This SHOULD have been the last song, though.
last song of side 1 on vinyl
It's a sequel to Amanda....
it is a variation of Amanda
Just a little slip...
Don't worry, it's gone...
i thought this had the lyrics
Doesn't sound that much like Amanda to me.Different key.Different pattern.2 great songs though...They're still making great music!!
