    Hey ITSystemsAdmin, wanted to thank you for the spectacular tutorials on youtube. These have even translated to server 2012, which is what I run. Small differences, but a huge help! THANKS!

    Did you install WSUS on a domain controller? If so, I thought that was a bad idea.

    Great detail! Thanks for the help and sharing your experience!! I had it all configured but the second GPO specifying the intranet server.
    Thanks again

    You also check some alternatives to WSUS. Let me show you:
    action1.com -
    performs real-time detection of all installed Windows updates and patches on all corporate workstations and provides security patch management capabilities, such as the ability to deploy security patches on selected systems, install Windows updates, and more.
    solarwinds.com - extends the capabilities of WSUS and represents a step between simple WSUS features and complete patch management.
    batchpatch.com - can work with WSUS and use them to retrieve and store updates, but is also a standalone patch management tool.

    first of all thank you so much for this video! it's super easy to follow.
    can you target specific computers or does this update pushed through all the ones connected to the domain?
    if specific computers is possible,how do you add computers to a group?
    thanks!

      Jay Senseng You can right click and create a new user group simaler to what you do in AD. Then just click and drag the newly added computer from the default unassigned group into the new group you created.

    Thank you very much, very good tutorial, but it would have been nice to see what the push does to a host.. i.e when the prompt appears and what the user can and can't do. Also some updates effect systems differently and it would be nice to know which updates are appropriate as some updates fail or damage machines. Hope to hear from you.

      That's where the 'approvals' come in + the admin to test in each possible client environment prior to approval. Me thinks

    • @Schnitzer325ci
      @Schnitzer325ci 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan DeMarco The optional updates is actually machine specific. The critical patches are pretty much universal and you have to run these ideally on a test machine first. Depending upon your environment. This can be a real pain but yes this is part of "approvals" or release management. Sometimes it feels like you need a whole team just dedicated to this alone. Depending on how many patches MS puts out. This can be a real stretch.

    Hello , tx for upload ,
    1.first the title is incorrect please fix it - by removing Hotfixes from it.
    2.you need to make a longer overview of the settings in the GPO and explain how it is applied to the internal network.

    Thanks very much for the upload, its a very useful tool. One question: how can you do to differentiate between updates for xp, vista or 7 clients? Can you create different groups of clients on wsus and assign them your selected updates?

    Does this download the update once to to the server and all computers connected to the server download the updates from the server rather than from the internet, therefore saving download quota?

    • @DinoNucci
      @DinoNucci 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe anything dictated by WSUS will direct / allow the client to go do / don't each task on its own.
