The final version being released in the mid 90s which used a cartridge instead of a reel. Thanks for viewing please subscribe and share my content with others.

I had this, Christmas gift back in the mid-late 70s, along with bionic man doll and evil kenivel play set. Thanks Dad, RIP Mommy.
Us too.
God bless them
Hello,I started my View Master reels collection back in 1971
And I still have them and take that !!
I love how this thing hit the market essentially as a working prototype. That instruction sticker feels like such a last-minute detail.
Just got a talking viewmaster in mint condition. I never had one with sound but I do like the way the photos look in this viewer. Photos looks big and really nice. The ones I have are on there way out.
I always wanted one as a kid. We had the regular red & white "G" Viewmasters though and lots of reels. I looked it up in an old Eatons catalogue and it was $16.99 Cdn in 1973, whereas the regular GAF Viewmaster was $4.99 Cdn. I seem to recall that our parents budgeted $20.00 Cdn for each child at Christmas, so that is probably why. It is hard to believe, but even with a $20.00 budget we always seemed to get a decent amount of cool toys for Christmas in those days. In the province I lived in there was a 8% sales tax added too.
The technology reminds me of a talking Bugs Bunny toy that my brother had. I think it used a similar technology. It had a pull cord and it randomly played back various voice clips (like "What's up Doc") from some sort of record disk of about the same quality.
I've got one of these, still works, it's amazing 😊😊
I had one when I as a child, would love to buy one back!!!
Me too
I had the blue one back in around 1976ish.
I'd get lost in the 3-D pictures. Such a great trip down memory lane. Thank you!
OMG this takes me way back to my childhood!!!
I had this talking one, loved it so much. I had the Disneyland Collection 👍
Disney was my first slides as a child
I just got the exact same talking viewmaster at Goodwill for 4 bucks! And the only reason I bought it was that it has the Apollo moon landing disc in it! Thanks!
I had one and it truly was legit!
I Really appreciated your presentation. I was a child of the late 60's and early 70's and also had this viewmaster. Sad to say I no longer have it. But I recently found the talking viewmaster reels for the 1969 Apollo Moon Landing. They are in great shape and have been stored in the original packaging. Would anyone like to have them? Please let me know. I would be happy to send them out.
I would like to inquire about your reels
I always wished they'd make a lighted viewmaster with little people or at least pictures of people in theater seats inside and possibly an emergency exit sign over a little door in the back, so it looks like a real movie theater inside, like a little diorama.
Cool!
I collected a few talking models and reel sets but never knew how to use it properly, thanks for making this video.
I got one of these for Christmas. I guess anyone who ever had one got it for Christmas. I had the set of highlights of Apollo 11. I thought it was pretty cool until the batteries ran out and then it was consigned to the closet and never used again. One day it suddenly wasn't there anymore. I guess Mom disposed of it.
I love my Talkies! I had to practically rebuild one of them (should have done a tutorial). There's a version with an electronic volume control, as well.
I miss mine. It was exactly like the one shown here.
I loved this when I had it
You left out an important safety consideration, which is that if you jostle the base of the thing at any time, the cover pops open and two heavy D batteries drop right in your lap (or on your foot).
Yes i have the marvel tin cylinder version. The sound is not great but the visuals are second to none one of my favorite toys from the early 80's
I still have my big green talking viewmaster projector if it still works (It's in original box but have not touched it in over 30 years) but you are more than welcome to borrow it and show it off if it does work.
I loved my projector
My talking one from 1969 sounds great. It's loud and clear.
Great video. 👍
You have the first incarnation. Purely mechanical player with a diaphragm as speaker connected to the stylus. The next version was the blue one - with an amplifier and crystal stylus and backlight. Sound was better and the pressure of the stylus on the disc much lower - so it didn't wear out after 50 or so plays....
Hi Shaun Loved your presentation. Question - how do you eject the discs please Thanks Charlotte
Awesome.
My wife had one of them as a kid !
got one for Christmas 1971, the grey one to the left of the blue one. BTW GAF is pronounced Gee A F.
I just recently came across one to add to my collection. Mine isn't the two-tone tho. Its all tan
I have the beige/tan one, but I cannot hear any sound. The record goes around and the needle mechanism appears to make contact, but all I hear is the reel going around. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
Trish
Can you get the plug that is at the bottom of the GAF as I have one but it is missing
Hi all, i have the A-Team viewmaster set from the 80s.
But one slide is bad. Its not damaged, but probably a production error. Anyone out there with the same problem? If so, it could be that particular slide.
interesting ith had a flat magnifying lens in fron, wondering if this was due to light having to pass through the transparent record attactched to the reel.
This was probably the most intelligent device of its time.
The model 1 viewmaster is basically a handheld gramophone. The model 2 is an electric gramophone and Model 3 is a phonograph that plays very small vinyl records with very good sound. they are all good, it's a shame the model 1 was not operated with a pull string clockwork instead of batteries but GAF may have has some deal with battery companies.
Anyone know how to fix one. I tried to show my kids how it worked but it didn't work. They were actually disappointed.
I HAVE ABOUT 500 DISCS AT HOME
Why are you looking to your right?
Yep. Had this! Unfortunately, it was gifted with biblical stories! But also Star Trek ones!
You decide to make video about "Talking Viewmaster", and don't give viewers the chance to actually hear it talk? Strange...
Do they still exist today?
@@sherry6997 Yes, it is easy to find them. There are many currently available on Ebay.
Hes cute
1:33 is not funny and I won’t subscribe you
Although I'm disappointed today's kids aren't into this stuff, the exciting thing is todays kids also aren't going to be into real women anymore once they have VR sex simulators and sex-bots with M-cups! Therefore leaving more real women for me! :)
