Also, he has to deal with a highschool full of teenage hormones. My man is fighting for his sanity in there!
@@excessivelyfangirlingbookw3339 AND we know the reason why Alice didn't see what Edward was almost about to do that day was because Jasper was having a particularly hard day so she was solely focused on him. I think Jackson Rathbone was the only one always nailing his character's behavior in these movies. 😅

I will admit I have watched this movie with the audio commentary, Kristen, Rob and the Director Catherine, and it's actually hilarious. Rob and Kristen just make fun of the movie thee whole time it's the best 😂

omg the BRACELETS 😂 , so for the movies they designed a Cullen family crest and each one of them is wearing it eather as a necklace or a bracelet and they sold them afterwards as merchandise and they made soooo much $$$$$$

The reference to “the directors making Robert act moody” vs “when he’s happy you can tell that’s just Robert” is actually the opposite. He was acting too moody how he thought Edward would. And the directors told him he needed to lighten it up or they’d fire him lol
The best part is probably the fact that the WEIRD parts are what Robert Pattinson wanted, but he almost got fired for being so weird. Which is the only reason Edward's got a personality
Having an off-screen apology to Charlie feels like a crime. Great soundtrack and set design though, 10/10.
Great vid. I appreciate that you take these books/movies seriously and don't dismiss them like so many did. Even if they aren't great literature, they have huge social impact and that's something to take a look at.
These were so big back in the day, I remember it so well and I’m just happy to be able to relive it!
To me, the movie itself is a teenager. Blue filter as teenagers idealise life, teenager music all along, every interaction is as dramatic as it is awkward and embarrassing, every character feel like they're thinking about every little detail... That's why I love it. It's fun and remind me this years

The director actually was behind the family crest to bond the family.
Something that makes me laugh about this series is that Edward finds Bella super intriguing because he hates what the other people around him think all the time and he can't hear her thoughts, so he wants to figure her out. The books being her POV show us that she's having the same petty thoughts as the teenagers around her. 😂 (And of course there's the blood allure.)

Actually, there is an interview with Robert, I think, where he speaks about how the producer constantly reminded them to act less and show less expression in the takes. I watched it a few years ago. So yeah, obviously that was intentional.
Over the years I can see how Robert Pattinson was able to get this part after taking Valium for the audition
We had a rewatch at our local theater we’re they had a marathon the amount of laughing and screaming! Was amazing. Also we out loud counted the number of time bella bites her lip through all the movies 😂
Charlie's acting when Bella is leaving, is the best performance of this whole movie. Lol
so i met the director and i want to just say, because of how much effort she put into this movie and how much love she has for washington, this is my favorite movie of the series. She wanted this movie to show everything of the books, not just the romance. Which is why it seems way more different than the rest of the movies. Thank you for listening to my ted talk.
Catherine Hardwicke UNDERSTOOD her audience. She's a big part of why Twilight was such a success. It goes beyond saying that most of the things now considered iconic are from the first film, and she really captured the essence of what Twilight is - moody, awkward, horny, emo. If you were a 13yo girl in 2008 this movie was crack, and that's exactly who it was for.

As someone who regularly goes back to twilight as my safety blanket series, watching you react to the absolute mayhem and absurdity of it all adds an extra layer that I never knew I needed, but now can’t live without
Actually- Robert kept trying to act “super edgy” and not like a normal romance character so much so that his agent called him one day and said if he didn’t try to be more normal like the director wanted they would literally find someone else so I think Robert is the reason he’s so awkward as Edward and tbh I hate it lol he was so cool and suave in the books

The portrayal of teen angst and a tragically doomed love in Twilight is spot on, making it an irresistibly dreamy story. However, my one critique is that, while I love Kristen Stewart as Bella, her portrayal doesn't quite capture Bella's intelligence, headstrong nature, or wonderfully stubborn qualities from the novel. On the other hand, Pattinson brings endless charisma to the role of Edward.
It seems like only recently has society started to pull back from the intense criticism and harsh judgment that Stephenie Meyer's books and the film adaptations once faced (the root of this hatred probably lies in misogyny and a disdain for teenage girls), and I’m glad to see that shift.
I don’t even try to hide that Twilight is a comfort movie for me, and those books always make me feel warm on a rainy day

The gloves are because in the first ever take she did she cut her hand when it broke and they only had 1 day to shoot this scene and obviously a vampire couldn't have cuts or like band aids etc.

I think the awkwardness of this movie is what makes it my favorite film in the series.You hit the nail on the head with the flaws, it seems like it's the first movie for all the actors in it. You have no idea how long I wait to see your reactions, I look forward to your comments on new moon.

I just watched the Breaking Dawn movies with my partner and honestly some of the characters are unrecognisable they've changed so much! Love the vibe of the first movie, a+ choices all around.

Fun fact: the little wristband you point out, the one Edward and Emmett are wearing, that is the Cullen family crest. Jasper has a wristband, too. Alice and Rosalie wear necklaces with the crest on them.
twilight literally had the smallest budget so catherine hardwick tried to make the best out of it 😅 there was an mtv behind the scenes series back in the day and they would explain how they tried to create all the effects without cgi bc they literally didn‘t have the money for it. also robert partinson said he went into this thinking it was gonna be an indie movie 😅😂
12:45 interesting fact, in the first take, the actress wasn't wearing gloves and when she broke the bowl, the glass cut up her hands and there was blood everywhere which is very UN-vampire, so they had to patch her up. The gloves were for safety and also to hide the bandages

Enjoyed the reaction! I think what they said about the running “effects” was that they didn’t have the amount of money they anticipated so they didn’t get to do it the way they wanted.
Also, I’ve seen a lot of people who don’t like the Bella lying to Charlie to save his life scene and I’m finally curious as to what would be the preferable way to get him not to follow without breaking him.

Living for these reactions, I've been watching a heap of other twilight reaction videos in anticipation of yours and it's such a different experience having Edwards perspective in mind. Being an early fan of the books when I was a tween swooning over Edward(yikes) I was really weirded out by Edward in the movies as it wasn't what I envisioned, but he really was a predator and now it's occurred to me that Kristen Stewart's Bella being so uncomfortable but thinking that she's in love actually makes a lot of sense. I would love to see this movie re edited as the horror/thriller that it is.
Perfect assessment. This series of movies is one that me and the fam re-watch when we've had a few drinks and want to laugh, in the best way possible. Like Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Im not ashamed to admit l have the soundtrack on vinyl ... and as a teenager, my mother helped me paint a furniture set in theme with the book covers. I still have them around the house. They remind me of simpler times in my life 🤣
Lol their wristband things are the Cullen Crest, they all wear one. They were made for the movies, they aren't in the books. Alice's is small, on her choker and Rosalie's is the necklace she wears. I may or may not have purchased the Rosalie necklace and worn it in my Twilight days.

There will be no Catherine Hardwicke slander while I'm present💅✨ she made a miracle out of pennies! They had a very low bugdet to begin with and it got cut even more when they were about to start filming. The entire film was shot in like 45 days. The difference between this one and the subsequent movies is astronomical - this was truly an indie film compared to the others. And say what you will about her decisions, but so many of them are the basis of what made Twilight so iconic!
Little fun fact: it's most actors' real hair in this movie, and wigs for the other ones (which you'll definitely notice - they're atrocious in New Moon). Nikki Reed's hair actually fell out from the amount of bleaching she did for this one.
Honestly a great review. I’ve only ever read the first book and never watch the movie so I didn’t know what it was actually like and this was a great way to learn about it without actually watching it
