I have witnessed this the last few years. I will say this. Teams will sometimes have 1 or 2 spots they legitimately might fill from this camp. I have seen kids make it. Another thing to consider is when trying out for a Junior A camp. A lot of junior B coaches attend these things and offer kids spots based on what they see. Also it is good to go up against strong competition to see where you actually stack up. I would say it is a great experience. I have seen guys not make it to spring camp, but become an AP after the fact. Best thing to do is study rosters. See where there is legit spots possibly available and pick one maybe 2 camps but no more. Think of it as getting experience at a camp and to work on your game.
The money grab that junior rookie camps have happened to me back in the late '90s. I was pissed and spoke to the coach and GM about it. They actually kept their word and set me up with other teams.
Great question. It's always important to check the validity of the camp first as, even if the invite isn't personal, it could still be very beneficial to attend. So I would suggest to do research on the camp regardless of invitation, see what people are saying about it! How many players will be there? How much ice time are you promised? All super important.
@ahadvising8 thank you. Was thinking that was the case. Gonna send you my sons particulars for free consultation, and go from there. I appreciate the advice. On the fence atm for an advisor but you guys seem amazing.

Good on them for helping you out, this rarely happens anymore.
Is the proamhockey jr chowder cup one of these showcases?
In our humble opinion, the chowder cup is typically one of those traps because it’s a very big showcase, and not much usually comes out of it.
How do you tell the difference between a spam camp invite and a personal, as most fanouts will include the players name??!!

What are your thoughts on USHL combine Phase 2? My son's an 07 goalie got invited to phase 2 combine in January is it worth it
The USHL combine will have many coaches, even if your son isn't ready for the USHL he may get seen by other coaches.
