This is the one song that touches my heart. I wish Gaither would come to the United Kingdom, I would love to see you guys perform live. Please Jesus, please let Gaither come to the UK.
These gentleman are the very best vocal group. They lift you up to Jesus . My granddaughter that I raised died in 2016. She was my blessing and her death rocked my world. In 2019 her Mother died suddenly. Her death was followed by my Fathers death. The last 4yrs i have relied on the southern gospel music ministry to carry me through. These gifted singers are so amazing. Thank you!!
Pranarni, my heart goes out to you for your sorrows for lose your love ones but I assure you with God’s Words to gives you assurance that they are not dead . “ Why seek ye THE LIVING among the dead ?” I hope God let you know through His Word that they are in the presence of God and they are more alive than ever before . My compassionate prayers are from California and the abundant mercy of God above while we praise Him!
Sun Delong thank you for for your comforting message. My Granddaughter died in 2016. She lived with me and my husband until she was 20yo. We always go to a beach each year and this year it was so difficult. Her Mom, Aunt, Haley our shared fur baby went with us. As we were driving to our house we looked ahead as my husband was driving and we saw a cloud. There was the shape of an angel in black little clouds. It was above our house. We knew the Lord was with us and he gave us a beautiful blessing. he continued to bless us in many ways during these times. Her Mom died 7/2019 and my Dad 11/2019. We have seen rainbows all over our home. One of the first rainbows was on Haleys bed in the closet. This was a wonderful, somewhat sad rainbow in the shape of a tear drop on Haleys bed. I know the Lord loves her even more than we do. We gave her a Precious Moments Bible on 3/3/99. Someone took the Bible and we had not seen it for years. A lady in NC found it and shipped it home to us. When we opened the Bible we saw the date we gave it to her and something else. She died on 3/3/2016. Same day, same month just different year. Again Thank You!!
Mgutshini Nobesuthu Thank you for your kindness. I can’t wait until the Lord calls us all to raise from our deaths and live in a new earth free from sin and pain.
Can relate as evidenced by the following sentences delineating how we use music to deal with pain and stir up faith. The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body. The painful realty of this existence gives rise to the birth of music in two forms, earthly & HEAVENLY. Earthly music speaks to the experiences of this world through the singer-song writer’s eyes. Oftentimes drug use (i.e. alcohol, smokes, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, benzos and propofol to name a few) is intertwined with the survival of an artist to deal with the pressure of performing in order to stay relevant in the music industry, and to serve as fuel for creativity. As a result, music celebrities develop a tendency to sin against their body, through excessive drug use, for not measuring up to or to satisfy the demands of their music. Any earthly joy they experience is darkened by the heavy burden of performing and the loss of privacy. The end users of their music become fans because the lyrics are relatable and the sound of the singer’s voice & rhythm helps them cope with the pains of this reality. Unfortunately, this band aid approach is only a time out from the hurt and in the meantime we are fortifying its wall with painful memories waiting in line. Who can save us from wounds that are silent, wordless and cruel all the while tearing us apart inch by inch on the inside, which could radically accelerate the demise of the human body? I will use caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY when writing about HEAVENLY music in the paragraphs below. That INVINCIBLE DIVINE be our HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO THROUGH HIS SON’S MISSION HAS INSPIRED believers to write songs that sing of HIS LIFE GIVING LOVE to deal with emotional & physical pain, economic instability, mortality and the emotional instability of others with the motive of winning over souls for HIS KINGDOM. The melody & theme of HEAVENLY music is hateful and intolerable to the devil, a spirit which causes us to be blinded of the effects of sin and is responsible for the woes of this world such as melancholy, anguish, tribulation and trial. These agitations of the soul create a heavy burden for the lost and could lead him or her to be hostile of songs that sing about GOD’S GLORY. This makes it clear that we cannot win the spiritual battle by our own strength. Moreover, on earth the devil has no equal. GOD has provided us with the ONE WHO CAN AND WILL LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt from a given sinner's heart if he or she (through faith) would open their understanding to Psalms (starting with the focus on Psalms 51:1-10 KJV), and hymns/songs giving praise to HIM for the purpose of being persuaded, converted and healed by the HOLY SPIRIT from within by transforming your body/temple into a meeting place for you and the KING OF THE AGES to commune as friends through the born again experience (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life). It is only here that the fears of tomorrow will diminish, the blessed assurance is given that you are HIS and HE LIVES. Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you.
Lozza Hornibrook Oh it would’ve been amazing to see them live!! I’ve only just recently discovered them, so how awesome it would be to see them in Melbourne. I’m going to have to find their itinerary, and hope that they come back here to Aus. God bless you sister 🙏

The Lord spoke this song to me today when I asked Him, Lord how long will my enemy continue to hunt me down? Every December I ask Him to end the battle before the new year. This time He said, It is Finished. The battle is finally over. Praise His name Forevermore. 🙌
IT IS FINISHED! WOW, in my 26 years as a born again Christian I've never heard this song. How powerful! Before Jesus died He said, "It is finished." PERIOD. So many people think they can lose their salvation and I argue that my Jesus DID NOT die in vain! Thank You sweet Jesus for saving my soul. I pray for the lost out there that they will come to know Jesus as their personal Savior. Amen
"Then I heard the King of the Ages had fought all life's battles for me, and victory is mine for the claiming, praise His name I am free!!!" My favorite line! If knowledge of that won't set you free, I don't know what will!
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood, and his name is called THE WORD OF GOD! And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, and he treadth the winepress of the fierceness and warth of GOD ALMIGHTY! And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh,a Name Written, KING OF KINGS AND LORDS!!!!!!!!!! Revelation 19:13-19.
GLORY HALLELUJAH! THE SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD MOVED UPON SOMEONE'S HEART! HOW CAN WE NOT SHINE IN A TIME AS THIS! IT IS FINISH! HE THAT WILL COME WILL COME, AND WILL NOT TARRY HALLELUJAH!!!!
Amen and Amen 🙌👏 Thanks to Gaither Vocal Band for this blessed song Oh yeah.....without our Lord Jesus there will be " NO VICTORY" It is Finished and JESUS is LORD 🙌👏❤❤

One Day, God says "It Is Finished!! The pandemic is over!" I thank Lord for all he has done to us and all the things he has gave me, God Bless everyone🤗
I just stand in awe of this group. God has blessed all of us for Bill Gaithers talents. And to think Bill chose Gloria for his soul mate. She is just as talented. This was such a great rendition of this song. Thank you God.
Everyday is a battle with bad against good.I find when I leave my battles to our loving Father. He fights them and victory accurds.Thank you Lord for your great love.for us all.Gods blessings to the singers and to all of you.🙏✝️❤️
In 2024 I'm still singing " It is finished " even in this time of physical and spiritual war. Let's not lose Hope the battle is won 2000+ years ago at calvery. Live in the Freedom He purchased for all. Thank you Jesus for your obedience to your Father to set us free from the law of sin and death.❤
The first time I’ve heard this song, it was sung by Wes Hampton on Easter Sunday and I was really sick in the hospital. I was bummed that I wasn’t going to be able to get to church that year, I was touched deeply that day and God’s power came over me and the Holy Spirit was just bursting through the walls of the hospital that day.
Praise the Lord. I too am struggling with horrific pain due to CRONIC heart condition, but I thank God for a beautiful friend who introduced me to this gift of musical spiritual powerful and HEALING group. They give me faith to carry on, both mentally and physically! Amen! Colleen Pretorius. South Africa! God bless us all!
Amen! It is finished. What a glorious day that will be. Holy Spirit lead me in the way I should live my life. In the name of the Father Son and The Holy Spirit. Amen. ,
Russ Taft's voice is truly amazing. To be honest, I'd love to do a DNA test to see if he is related to my family. The resemblance between Russ Taft and my brothers is unbelievable. The hair, skin tone, eyes and facial features are uncanny. Unlike me, my brothers and parents do/did have amazing singing voices.
Ha ha.. I love this, makes me raise my hands to the lord to thank him for fighting for me and bringing me back from such a dark place.. There is no other feeling in this whole entire world that compares with the feeling of knowing that Jesus loves me and that he died for my sins so that I may live eternally with him in Heaven.. What an amazing love, Hallelujah!!!! Thank you so much for posting..
Karen sometimes we can detect a sweet spirit through words. You just showed me a precious sweet spirit. I am so thankfuk that you found your way out of the darkness. Bless you hon.
Praise without ceasing! Jesus is Lord. Thank you for singing and we appreciate your gift of Heavenly voices and God is smiling to all of the believers!! Let us all come home to our King and proclaim the VICTORY today! HAPPY EASTER TO ALL THE SINGERS !
Every time I hear David belt a song out like this...straight from the heart, I say it’s my favorite...until the next one!! A absolutely wonderful song, and performed perfectly by David and the other guys!! It just touches my heart in such a meaningful way!! Thank you, David, for sharing your God given talent with us!! You are blessed with your voice, and we are blessed every time we hear you sing!!
I just adore watching Russ Taff when David Sings. He just seems to become so excited that he dances around and stamps his feet. Brilliant reaction. As for David's wonderful voice and passion........................phew!!!!
David Phelps has the greatest singing voice God ever created! the Gaither vocal band is the Best ever. I have been listening to them for decades and never get enough. I start my day with praise and worship to Jesus with David and the vocal band songs!
It have been a fan for years, but still often react that way, tears and all, clear to my soul, to this song an several others!!! I just feel it deep in my soul!!?
I love watching Russ Taff rocking back and forth when David Phelps is singing. He is so caught up and JUST enjoyong the moment. Almost like HE is singing it himself. I get such an encouragement from Russ. He has been thru the ups and downs of life and he puts the entire enchilada out there for all of us. I have dealt with some of the trauma he has and it's so nice to have a human form as a reference to help get my own heart and soul right. I also have recently come to understand the personal relationship ofJesus Christ. Of course I envied people who had the sweet sweet sweet spirit of Jesus and couldn't understand why my life didn't reflect it. I had to claim abd believe it. Now I know who my Master Saviour Friend is and it's Jesus. My father told me years ago, you either believe it or not. Thanks Russ you are such a blessing. Since the 80s I have enjoyed your music and witness. Your girls are just lovely.
The words to this song are truly magnificent. I have often wondered how many people, even Christians have really understood what happened 2000 years ago on that Hill called Calvary. This song needs to be listened to many times by all of us. Thank you so much for this video .
Oh my, I know! I am exactly the same. I tingle all over and my heart races and I laugh and cry at the same time. As a child of the living Lord, I have nothing to fear... IT IS FINISHED!! My eternity is sure!
There is such anointing on this song, the lyrics and the entire performance that it leaves me trembling with awe at its beauty and depth! Thank you so much to all involved for this outstanding performance! 🇨🇭
It Is Finished The Story Behind the Song by Gloria Gaither Bill and I love to hear great orators as much as we love great literature. It has been our privilege to hear, in person or through the media, many great speakers. We’ll never forget the milestone moment in our nation’s history, for example, when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the now famous “I Have a Dream” speech. To teach English students the principle of communication, we used the eulogy delivered by Senator Mike Mansfield, of Montana, after Kennedy was assassinated, “And she took a ring and placed it on his finger. . . .” And who could forget ten thousand voices at the Praise Gathering for Believers in Indianapolis affirming in one great voice the truth Tony Campolo had drilled into our very souls: “It’s Friday . . . but Sunday’s coming!” Because we had learned to recognize and appreciate such moments, Bill and I knew that it was a timeless honor to sing at the same service in which nationally known radio orator B. R. Lakin was to deliver a sermon on Jesus’ last words from the cross: “It is finished!” It was hard to forget the way Dr. Lakin ended his message. And the drops of blood from His precious hands seeped into the sand below the old rugged cross and said to the sand, “It is finished.” The grains of sand whispered their message to the blades of grass, “It is finished!” A little bird swooped down and plucked a blade of grass and flew to the top of the pine tree and carried the message to the uppermost branch, “It is finished!” The pine standing like a sentinel raised its branches to the sky and repeated to the forests around and the clouds above, “It is finished!” The heavens echoed the wondrous liberating news, “It is finished!” until the winds blew across the sea and the waves lapping on the shore repeated the message to the farthest oceans, “It is finished!” Bill and I were overwhelmed with the beauty and grandeur of this picture. Afterward, I wasn’t surprised that Bill said, “We’ve got to write a song about that, honey. ‘It Is Finished’-what a great title!” Even then my mind was exploding, stretching, asking, searching. What was finished? I couldn’t escape the question. How could I ever hope to comprehend the scope of redemption and capture it in a song? For a year I struggled. Bill kept saying, “Honey, we need to write that song.” I said, “Yes, we must. But I’m not ready. I can’t distill this truth into four verses and a chorus. Let me live with it a while longer.” I read and reread the crucifixion story. Insight by insight I made the truths my own. The drink from the Messiah’s cup on the Passover night in the Upper Room; the prayer Jesus prayed for His friends there and for us here. The betrayal by Judas, the denial by Peter. The inquisition, trial, and execution. The amazing last words of Jesus. I considered the implications of the troubling of the forces of nature: the earthquakes, the unnatural darkness, the strange storm. And I worked to comprehend how these chaotic eruptions in the natural realm were used to issue new proclamations in the spiritual realm: a torn barrier to the Holy of Holies, an opening of access to the mercy seat and the awesome presence of God, a redefining of the terms royalty, priesthood, sacrifice, intermediary. At that time our nation was involved in the long and seemingly pointless Vietnam War. When “the conflict” was finally ended, a generation of America’s young had been riddled. This was the only war I had known well. I was born after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and I barely remembered the Korean War. Vietnam was my generation’s war-the first war to pull the nation apart rather than unite it. It left both those who served in it and those who refused to serve confused and bewildered and at odds with one another. It was an ambiguous war. I well remember the night Bill and I sat and wept in our living room as we watched on television the return home of prisoners of war from Vietnam. Some fell to the ground and kissed American soil. Others threw themselves into the arms of waiting parents, wives, and sweethearts who had lived in the fear that these soldiers would never come back. Some hugged their two-, three-, and four-year-old children whom they had never seen. The relief on the faces-the tears, the joy, the hope, the pain-was almost too much to bear. About that same time Bill and I picked up a major news magazine that carried the story of another American soldier. This man had wandered out of the forest on some secluded island in the South Pacific. He was carrying a rusty weapon and was dressed in what remained of a tattered American uniform. He was suspicious and frightened as authorities took him into custody. The article explained that this was a World War II soldier who had been lost from his company and left behind. No one had ever told him that the Allies had won the war, that he was free to go home, that victory had been declared long ago. All those years he had remained at war in his mind, fighting a battle that had already been won. The song Bill wanted us to write was falling into place for me. War-the cross of Jesus was about war, a war of cosmic proportions, the war of the ages. This was a war with a clear objective: freedom for every soul since Eden. It was a war fought on earth where mankind could see it, and a war fought in the unseen world, from the heavens to the very pit of hell. What was finished? I’d asked the question for a year. Bill had the music; now the words would come. I saw the crack in the earth-caused by the quake that shook Golgotha-as a cosmic split in the universe, a line that divided all history and all time into bc and ad. I began to write: There’s a line that’s been drawn through the ages; On that line stands an old rugged cross. On that cross a battle is raging For the gain of man’s soul or its loss. The sides and powers of the conflict were clearly defined. If there ever was a holy war, a righteous cause, this was it. And each of us had major stakes in this war’s outcome. On one side march the forces of evil, All the demons and devils of hell; On the other the angels of glory, And they meet on Golgotha’s hill. There were disturbances of nature-much more than a simple storm or earthquake. This earthquake shook the very foundations of the firmament and reverberated into eternity. The earth shakes with the force of the conflict; The sun refuses to shine, For there hangs God’s Son in the balance, And then through the darkness He cries- It is finished! The battle is over. It is finished! There’ll be no more war. It is finished! The end of the conflict. It is finished! And Jesus is Lord. A defeated enemy is impotent. Every battle-weary soldier must be told: the war is over! I thought of that poor, bedraggled man peering suspiciously out from the dark forest, afraid to come out into the sunlight, guarding his little island. I saw myself, and I suddenly realized that this is a picture of us all. Because of Jesus, Satan has no power over us unless he can keep us from hearing the news of the victory, unless he can convince us that the war has never been won. Of all the declarations of freedom-the Magna Carta, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights-none has been written so eloquently or at such great cost in bloodshed as the one spoken in three words from an old rugged cross: It is finished! Every isolated soldier of life’s battle must hear it. Yet in my heart the battle was raging; Not all prisoners of war have come home. These were battlefields of my own making; I didn’t know that the war had been won. Then I heard that the King of the Ages Had fought all my battles for me. And the victory was mine for the claiming, And now, praise His name, I am free! It is finished! Bill sat down at the piano, played his tune, and sang through the words on the yellow tablet in front of him. Tears ran down our faces as we embraced anew the truth that had set us free. We were coming to know at a sweeter, deeper level what was meant by the words the blade of grass whispered to the bird that day on Golgotha: It is finished!
Have listened to this song countlessly. Its like it's talking to me as an individual that had sinned so many times, thus It is finished and my sins are forgiven as Jesus the son of God said"it if finished".

No greater battle has ever been fought, than the battle fought that day, on Calvary. And JESUS WON!!
Also, we are winners, too.
When we APPROPRIATE ALL Jesus paid for us at the Cross!!!!!!
FOR me . . . . . and you ... . . . . . . . . . . .
Jesus won for us
there is also another great battle ever fought. The battle against self.
True, and we don’t win that without Jesus to help us either, so really we have his death on the cross and resurrection to thank for that victory too.
"It is finished! And Jesus is Lord"!!! Makes alllll the difference in this world! PRAISE GOD!!!
This song gives me courage , just knowing that the King of ages fought for me 🙏🙏.

Hi Alice hope you’re okay?
It is finished the battle is over indeed, one of my favorite songs by this group, may God richly bless all the singers.
Hands down, these 4 together, take u rt 2 heaven. Guy, Russ, David and Bill. Amazing!!! I could listen 2 them every day!
I really like the man in the blue coat singing ❤
That's a wonderful testimony, truly a blessing.

Hi Shirley hope you’re okay?
We need to understand the words of THIS SONG NOW MORE THAN EVER!!
I just adore watching Russ Taff when David Sings. He just seems to become so excited that he dances around and stamps his feet. Brilliant reaction. As for David's wonderful voice and passion........................phew!!!!

There's coming a day, not long from now, Jesus is going to say.... *IT IS FINISHED*
He already did. On the cross.
And it may be sooner than anyone may know! Amen! People please be ready!
David Phelps has the greatest singing voice God ever created! the Gaither vocal band is the Best ever. I have been listening to them for decades and never get enough. I start my day with praise and worship to Jesus with David and the vocal band songs!
Wow this is powerful. It shook my soul and It brought tears to my eyes.
I love this song so much. Oh yes it is finished. I love the intro by Bill ! It's such a heavely message . Wow . Goosebumps
Phelps really is a joy to listen to praise God
The Gaither Vocal Band brings out the best in David Phelps. 💕💕💕
So it is finished - Glory be to God..what a powerful statement of Jesus on that old rugged cross for His chosen ones.

Hi Carol hope you’re okay?
The words to this song are truly magnificent. I have often wondered how many people, even Christians have really understood what happened 2000 years ago on that Hill called Calvary. This song needs to be listened to many times by all of us. Thank you so much for this video .
Jesus truely is the king and messiah praise to the lord of lords .
Months later I can not stop listening to this many times a day. Lovely, lovely. It is finished. Does something to me.
Oh my, I know! I am exactly the same. I tingle all over and my heart races and I laugh and cry at the same time. As a child of the living Lord, I have nothing to fear... IT IS FINISHED!! My eternity is sure!

It Is Finished The Story Behind the Song by Gloria Gaither
Bill and I love to hear great orators as much as we love great literature. It has been our privilege to hear, in person or through the media, many great speakers. We’ll never forget the milestone moment in our nation’s history, for example, when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the now famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
To teach English students the principle of communication, we used the eulogy delivered by Senator Mike Mansfield, of Montana, after Kennedy was assassinated, “And she took a ring and placed it on his finger. . . .”
And who could forget ten thousand voices at the Praise Gathering for Believers in Indianapolis affirming in one great voice the truth Tony Campolo had drilled into our very souls: “It’s Friday . . . but Sunday’s coming!”
Because we had learned to recognize and appreciate such moments, Bill and I knew that it was a timeless honor to sing at the same service in which nationally known radio orator B. R. Lakin was to deliver a sermon on Jesus’ last words from the cross: “It is finished!”
It was hard to forget the way Dr. Lakin ended his message.
And the drops of blood from His precious hands seeped into the sand below the old rugged cross and said to the sand, “It is finished.” The grains of sand whispered their message to the blades of grass, “It is finished!” A little bird swooped down and plucked a blade of grass and flew to the top of the pine tree and carried the message to the uppermost branch, “It is finished!” The pine standing like a sentinel raised its branches to the sky and repeated to the forests around and the clouds above, “It is finished!” The heavens echoed the wondrous liberating news, “It is finished!” until the winds blew across the sea and the waves lapping on the shore repeated the message to the farthest oceans, “It is finished!”
Bill and I were overwhelmed with the beauty and grandeur of this picture. Afterward, I wasn’t surprised that Bill said, “We’ve got to write a song about that, honey. ‘It Is Finished’-what a great title!”
Even then my mind was exploding, stretching, asking, searching. What was finished? I couldn’t escape the question. How could I ever hope to comprehend the scope of redemption and capture it in a song?
For a year I struggled. Bill kept saying, “Honey, we need to write that song.”
I said, “Yes, we must. But I’m not ready. I can’t distill this truth into four verses and a chorus. Let me live with it a while longer.”
I read and reread the crucifixion story.
I began to write:
There’s a line that’s been drawn through the ages;
On that line stands an old rugged cross.
On that cross a battle is raging
For the gain of man’s soul or its loss.
The sides and powers of the conflict were clearly defined. If there ever was a holy war, a righteous cause, this was it. And each of us had major stakes in this war’s outcome.
On one side march the forces of evil,
All the demons and devils of hell;
On the other the angels of glory,
And they meet on Golgotha’s hill.
There were disturbances of nature-much more than a simple storm or earthquake. This earthquake shook the very foundations of the firmament and reverberated into eternity.
The earth shakes with the force of the conflict;
The sun refuses to shine,
For there hangs God’s Son in the balance,
And then through the darkness He cries-
It is finished!
Yet in my heart the battle was raging;
Not all prisoners of war have come home.
These were battlefields of my own making;
I didn’t know that the war had been won.
Then I heard that the King of the Ages
Had fought all my battles for me.
And the victory was mine for the claiming,
And now, praise His name, I am free!
Easter 2022...Still here..."It is finished..."! Yes Lord...!! Love You Lord...!!
