I think there should have been a segment from a technological/societal perspective. Without agriculture we probably wouldn't have been able to build the society as it stands today. This presentation makes it seem as if hunterer gatherers were way healthier and that agriculture was a "mistake". The domestication of fruit and vegetables plays a huge role in healthy and complete nutrition today. This is typical for a lot of Scientists. They present data without managing the implications of its presentation. Expand on your knowledge and eliminate false media titles claiming "why humans should have never settled down" before they arise...
They probably did not have access to them. There is always one crop that gave the most calories for their effort. Most grains can be turned into alcohol. Fruits are seasonal. Consider the Irish. Their population more than doubled between 1780 and 1840 after the introduction of potatoes. Everyone grew potatoes. Everyone ate potatoes. Then the potato crops failed due to blight between 1845 and 1852 in the Great Famine. More than a million died of starvation and more than a million emigrated to the New World. There are other mitigating factors such as they were too poor to buy other food stuffs like milk. That is another sad fact when large groups of humans live together after the agriculture revolution. There is the 1% hogging the resources and telling the rest what to grow and not helping when disaster strikes. In every large ancient city, there will be large group of slaves and extremely poor people barely eking by on a nutrient deficient diet that had to be winnowed, milled or soaked and cooked before it can be eaten.
