      Hey Gary, We plan to go to Havasu maybe next week. We got a wind report that Mohave might blow 25 to 28 mph, so we might stay away from that lake. WE have lucked out the last 3 times to Mohave. No wind!. We are planning a Powell trip this year in September. We are looking forward to it. We love our '88 Sleekcraft

      Wow, that is a long time ago. We have owned our boat since 1988. We are nearing the last few years of boat camping. We set off 2 weeks ago to go to Mohave, and our tow vehicle broke down when leaving our house. We will try again in October (maybe)

      @@stevewhitton8671 Oh no, good luck next time! I still own the 1966 Steven boat we used to take to the lake. I take it out from time to time. We used to have a 34' houseboat in the Katherine's Landing Marina but it ended up sinking during a bad wind storm.

      @@friedfilm Sorry about you houseboat. As you know, these lakes are dangerous during storms. We have been in storms at Lake Powell and Lake Mead. In 2023, I thought we were going to loose our 26' boat in rough water.
      Oh, our tow vehicle breakdown was a software update to the transmission. So, it was a cheap fix.

    At 15:42 mark. We used to day camp in the area against dam where the tree/bushes are. It provide much needed shade when it was 115. It was perfect for wakeboarding and skiing since not alot of people would be in that area. The dam part was always blocked off as far as i can remember going there since the 90s. Last trip was 2007 when my father sold the boat. Thanks for the members. I need to get back up there some day!!

    Just found Your gem of a channel, Laurie & Steve. Congrats on the nice new deck hatch, another sign of how You've treasured Your beautiful and original 1988 SleekCraft since You bought it new. My boat's from 1989 and I wouldn't dream of spending money on a new boat in yours/mine size, just way out of my financial range, and wouldn't even offer some of the great ol' school custom touches or pride of being a caretaker of a classic boat. Now it's time for lunch for me and Your next boating video will join me at my late afternoon coffee break. Enjoy Lake Powell if You head there in September as You mentioned. My TH-cam signature photo is of my boat on Powell in 2015.

    It’s nice to see families enjoying the lake. During the summer we use Nevada side, north facing beaches for early shade and wind protection. That beach with the flag we refer to as 9 mile beach, there’s a blinking nautical marker on the point just south with nine stenciled on it. North of that spot are several small sandy spots that are ideal for camping as they’re a little more protected from the afternoon southerlies.
    The flag is replaced every year by the mother who lost her son in Afghanistan, this was his favorite beach growing up.
    Take care and enjoy!

      We had it made in 1988. We love our boat. When we got it restored and color sanded in 2019, I think the color looks even better than it did. By adding a really dark windshield also made it look like it goes fast. We primarily camp on Lake Mead, however, since the draught, it has not been on Lake mead since 2021. This 26' boat got up 55 miles in the Grand Canyon when the water was high. I'd say that was around 2000. Thanks for watching

    Tell her when she is backing the boat down the ramp to put the vehicle in neutral and keep it out of reverse. It helps a little, especially when the ramp is steep

    Awesome video Steve! Haven't been to Mohave in 15 plus years, looking to make a comeback this year, I know things have changed with the 2 strokes, but also you need to pay to launch these days at Cottonwood cove, correct? Would you happen to know the cost for a truck, boat and 3 people? I am sure you have a annual pass by now. Is it still free to boat camp I hope at least? or do you pay a lump sum? I appreciate any info on the matter!

    Why do you switch from tank to tank instead of just leaving both valves open and let them drain simultaneously?

    • @stevewhitton8671
      @stevewhitton8671  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is an excellent question.. When we bought the boat new in 1988, it had an electrical relay that only allowed 1 tank to draw fuel to the engine. When that broke, we put manual valves in . I think my mechanic said to do it that way. I was great when it was electrical. Now it is a pain
      in the ass
