    Now after my second run, a 10 k this time on that same route, I can definitely confirm my first conclusions and also that the hype of the CARBON plate is for NOTHING, it's almost USELESS, my advice stick with the original Mont Blanc, this one is pretty much garbage, and even the durability seems to be worse, I could notice the Vibram and rubber and the foam wearing out after only 18 k, meaning 2 runs in this case, and the materials feel and look like garbage, more than 200 EUR for these is a RIP OFF

      You are prob one of those thinking you will be Kipchoge as soon as you use a carbon plate shoe 😂😂😂 Its more a ultrarunning shoe then a superfast speed plate ! You can not really compare the plate to one in a road shoe. Its more the longer you go the better it will be feeling. I do agree the price is crazy!

    Still love the original ones and you can get them for less than a $100 U.S. I will be waiting to see if they drop a non carbon plate version and what the price will be.

    I picked up a pair on Friday, the old one had issues but it is about the only shoe I've tested that I am totally comfortable in for long distance. So far I have done 55km in them (5km fast, 29km rough terrain and a slow 21km on hard pack). For fast efforts on hard packed ground they are insanely fast, just lean forward, keep your cadence up and you'll struggle to keep on top of them. Even at the end of a 29km I could push on and felt good. The 21km I did as a bit of a plod, much less benefit from the carbon plate and they seem less forgiving than the V1 but the fit is still bang on for me. I expect they will bed in to feel as comfortable as my v1 over time. Also, if anyone is near Kewsick UK Kong Running have an amazing range and had an Easter deal on, got these for £155! That's almost normal shoe prices...

      That's a real steal! Nice one! My longest run in them so far was 26k with 1200m elevation gain, and rarely do I manage to keep up the pace towards the end, but these shoes felt great!

    Does the MBC is the same size as previous version or should we size up with the carbon version? Thanks

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have both in the same size. They feel the same and I am happy with them like this. I would not size up or down, however I do know that some people got creative with the regular MB, by sizing up or down to fix the heel slip issue.

    Thanks for the shout out! Hopefully I can start racking up the miles from this weekend onwards.
    The tongue is an interesting one for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we don't see a repeat of the issues we saw with the Torin 6 and Timp 4 tongue!

    They look cool. I think I’d look good running my first trail marathon in them. But 260$ and the website says 10 oz which doesn’t make them particularly light. I’m leaning towards going for comfort over speed and getting Topos Ultraventure 3’s or even their mountain racers

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I was mistaken when I was recording this. They're actually 267grams (9.4oz?) in a size 10US. There are probably lighter trail shoes out there, but for an Altra, it doesn't get much lighter than this.

      @@TDMiller ok, that isn’t bad. Running warehouse usually has a couple sales throughout the summer. If these get discounted, I might pick up a pair.

    Hello!
    In this review, I noticed that the sole is slightly different from the sole in the photos on the official Altra website (next to the Vibram logo). In various places (video clips and photos) I see both types of Altra MB Carbon soles. Do you know what this is due to, why there are two different soles?

    Great review! Thanks!!
    The new TIMP5 is quite rigid high up on the lateral ankle side and hurts the frontside of my bone there on ultras, do you noticed any difference in the ankle collar on these compared with TIMP5?

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The collar of the MBC is slightly less padded and lower (approx 5mm), so that might be better for you.

      The Mont Blanc Carbon ankle is not going to be a problem for you.

    Great review, thanks 😎
    I tried this shoe yesterday, really happy, 30km with 2k vertical technical trails, no issued,comfortable, good grip and stable.
    The original was too squishy and my foot rolled off the side too easily, they fixed that in this version so now I can finally use them 👍
    Would have preferred a bit more tread depth and I think I could possibly go a half size smaller but need to try that out, they will be one of my race shoes now they fixed the stability.

  • @tk5422

    The big problem Altra has is the midsole material.
    They are buying the cheapest eva material.
    They have no own eva production or development- so they have to buy from the big chemistry players.
    They should invest in the higher eva lines like hooka, asics or Nike are doing.
    Than they could fix their high weight shoe problem, and create a shoe with real rebound.
    Just my thoughts.

    • @GTE_Channel
      @GTE_Channel 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You might be misinformed, this shoe has no EVA. It's TPE, and the ego pro is supercritical TPE

    • @tk5422
      @tk5422 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the result is the same. Heavy weight midsole with zero rebound compared to top performing midsoles like asics, nike and hoka

    That sounds a bit strange that the carbon plate did not protect you from the rocks, well, there are rocks and spots that no protection would do against but yeah, I also felt rocks in other shoes with generous stack height or even a rock plate as the Lone Peak so I.guess there are some unlucky spots and rock or stones configurations that hurt

  • @antonroux6737
    @antonroux6737 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    wish they were a bit wider - can't wear them - otherwise they felt really good to move in and much more comfortable than a carbon road shoe

    Do you know if they gonna make a MB without a carbon plate ? Would be awesome to get a version thats a bit cheaper, with that updated upper. MB was one of my fav shoes 2023 even with that F:d up heal…we need a MB 2

      Yeah, I'd be surprised if they didn't offer a non-plated version in the future. Kinda like the Vanish Tempo for the VC, a non-plated "super shoe" for the MBC would be nice.

    Isn`t 290 gram a bit heavy for at trail shoe?

      Ah, you're right. It's actually 267g. I must have confused it with the regular MB 🙈
      There are probably lighter trail shoes out there, bit as for Altras, they're the lightest at the moment.

      Not really if you compare them to other Ultra Trail shoes the weight is not to bad. Yes Endorphin Edge and Tecton X2 are lighter but the rest not.

      Trail shoes are generally heavier than road shoes since they have more protection and luggy outsoles

      @@TDMillerThanks! I normally take a 45 EU in Altras (Escalante 3s, Superior 4s, King MT 2, ...) but had to send the Timp 5s back for being to small in that size. Will try a 46 for either of these then, I think.

    • @RobLunn1
      @RobLunn1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For others interested, just found out the seller had sent me a 44 instead of a 45. When I found that out (after I'd sent them back), I got size 45, and they felt fine, perhaps slight tighter than the other models, but my size. Although 46 would have worked too.
