It's great when you find a shoe that just works so well, for me it's the Speedgoat, but I really like the Timp 4 as well, these shoes just seem to feel right out of the box. I'm surprised Altra haven't started sending you out shoes James, your reviews are always honest, at £200 a pop, I wouldn't hurt!
Thanks Innes, the speedgoat is classic and the T4 is a great one …
Yup, I wouldn’t mind a few freebie’s from Altra ! Think I have got about 1/4 million views just on those Altra reviews !
A superb review as always mate! 👏 Happy Birthday bud! 🥳🎁 These next 3 weeks until race day will fly by! 😎🤘
Thanks Ben.. yup time will fly - luckily I don’t have a 100 miles to run !!😂💪
Great video - love the Mont Blanc front half. Didn’t like the loose heel. I also found the sole wore out very quickly. Need to save my pennies for some of these. Cheers 👋
Thanks. Well you should now like both ends!’ It’s a tad expensive but great shoe - that said, ideally a few extra millimetres of width would be nice for the longer runs
Very nice and not badly priced either compared to other brands. Looking forward to your Olympus 5 review
loved the boas but as an AZ runner i could definitely feels some rocks here and there. Just retired my Jackal boas and im picking up the carbons today. i am excited to compare them to the boas, especially with the carbon plate for protection more than snap
Ah thanks for the comment - appreciate it and apologies for the late response!
Hi James. Just bought, following your advices on the shoe but most important following the size you choose.
Fingers crossed.
Olympus 9,5 usa
Timp 9,5 usa
Lone Peak 9 usa
Altra Mont Blanc Carbon 9 usa
🤞🤞🤞
Im strongly considering this for my first trail marathon if I can get it on sale. Otherwise I’ll probably go Topo MTN Racer 3.
Hi James,
Love the channel - I’m a bit addicted.
I’m just getting back in to my running after many years off - been focusing on other types of training.
I’m trying to slow my pace down; my bodies trying to run like it did in my 20’s at a 5 minute mile pace; It’s like the the muscle memory and gait is trying to do something the body can’t keep up with…… I’m really struggling to run slower - it’s almost like my gait at the slow pace of 9 or 10 minute mile is all to fuck and I just end up spending more energy than if I was to run faster…… Any advise on running more slowly?
Hi. Thanks. Interesting question. I guess you could try running in a more minimal shoe - less cushion , low drop etc … and on trails. This might force a high cadence and less impact … I would also focus a little of heart rate - staying around 135 should slow things down …
Lastly, maybe try and follow a 80/20 rules. 80 % super easy pace , in more minimal style shoes (even try more chilled music) and the 20% hard …
Thanks - I hadn’t considered the minimal cushion, low drop shoes - that’s good advise.
Thanks again for the reply.
ngl i bought the mont blanc boa, and just the 0 drop is just the best thing ever, nice wide and really just has improved my footstability, so lets be real... im never buying nothing else than altras now ahahahaa, would love to see the mont blanc carbon in boa too eventually, i just think the boa system is lowkey superiorto laces
I was tempted to get these for my ultra coming up but the price tag made me get the boas. As was less than half the price.
Wise idea. I think the price will soon come down … it will always does with Altra new models. As said, love all the MBs and boa is cool - good luck with the ultra coming up , where is it?
What about longevity of midsole? Does it go flat loss response after 100 miles. I have found my altras midsole don’t last
Hi. So actually I found that they do seem to hold up ok, I use the old mbs with worn treads as road shoes and they feel good. Clearly not as bouncy as day one . I found the lone peak flattens out quicker as did the timp.
My ultra glide seen to loose bounce pretty quick. I may try these MB carbons. Thanks for great videos!
@jimreome yes. I agree - found the uh to flatten quickly … well, post 50 miles or so
Altras wear so quick , I run 1km from my house in my adidas then change into my Altras once at the trail and hide my Adidas in a hedge till I get back , sad but they last 6 months longer
30 seconds of trash music and drone footage. That's cute.
PS. We want to hear you struggle to speak while running very slowly. Maybe work on your zone 2 instead of flying around childrens toys.
It's clear you're a big fan of these shoes, and your detailed review really highlights why. From the improved heel lockdown to the responsive feel, it sounds like they've hit the mark with this version. Your insights definitely make me want to grab a pair for myself! Keep up the great work with your runs, and happy early birthday! 🎉
Thanks and thank you for a great comment. I would definitely recommend these, maybe wait a few months as no doubt the price will drop ! Hope all is well with you …👍
