    Hi OOTR, nice set-up! It looks like the important functions work well; the boat stays right on the GPS course. My first autopilot-interface (late 1980's?) was with a Ross LORAN receiver and NAVICO autopilot. (The Ross was great; the NAVICO was horrible). Because of delays in signal interpretation the course was a constant 'snake' pattern, but it eventually got us there! Thank you for all the helpful information!

    Thank you for the diligence in putting these videos together. Very informative! In my case, I have an existing Garmin NMEA 2000 backbone with several Garmin devices connected to the network. I’m considering the idea of using SeaTalkng DeviceNet adapter cables to connect the Raymarine autopilot devices directly into the existing NMEA 2000 network (i.e. bypassing the proprietary SeaTalkng backbone). If I were to use the approach outlined in the video, I believe I would have a termination problem - I would essentially have two separate NMEA 2000 backbones, both terminated and connected together by a spur cable. I’m suspecting that configuration would not work. Alternatively, I think I would need to link the two network backbones together in such a way that I end up with a single contiguous backbone with a single terminator at each end. I would welcome any thoughts you have on this ... I’m guessing I will need to bypass Raymarine support and just call Garmin! :-) Cheers.

    Nice work!! That is a great feature. Is it possible to control the throttle? If so I wonder if you added radar if it would be able to go around storms or avoid obstacles. Now you can plot your trip. Sit back and just look out for other boats/obstacles.

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm bigger boats with more sophisticated equipment you could but with the system you won't be able to control the speed probably have to get another type of equipment to do that but that would be a great idea to and yes now it's going to be a lot easier to navigate far distances.

    Hi Captain, I have a question hoping you would answer. I haven’t seen any videos featuring only the Garmin 942 alone. Are you happy with it? Did it connect to your Yamaha 200 easily, or do you only receive data to the Yamaha command link gauge installed?
    Also, did you go with a transom mount transducer or through hull? Are the Bahamas charts you use preloaded and if so, how far East are they accurate? As far as Bimini? Or did you purchase an additional blue chart card? aMaybe you could make a video one day demonstrating that. Anyways, thank you for all the hard work and production you put in your videos, they are amazingly good. I just bought a Delta anchor through your amazon link too.

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Garmin chartplotter is not connected to the engine the engine has its own computer and it came with maps that I can look at almost all the islands at the Bahamas it came integrated and it with no card I got a lot of information out of it but I'm sure if you buy a car to get more details but I do not need them so far I like it and I have a through hull transducer I also placed the link in the description below the exact unit I'm using

    • @Peter007Freeman
      @Peter007Freeman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This video shows a STNG spur cable connecting to a NMEA 2K device not a backbone.
      Raymarine have just released a backbone adapter cable which connects to the STNG backbone (i.e. remove STNG terminator resistor and connect one end of the adapter cable and remove NMEA terminator resistor and connect the other end of the adapter cable). Now you have joined the 2 networks.
      e.g. A80674 - SeaTalkng backbone cable to DeviceNet (Male) - 400mm

      I am flattered that you asked me to build your boat like this but this is one of a kind is a Crooked pilothouse ,it's a factory mistake
      That should have left the factory that's why is one of a kind I don't think you can build another one just like this one.
