    Dude! I am a 25 year electronic technician with an extreme enthusiasm for marine electronics and wiring in general. Currently studying for my ABYC certification, I have wired up solar, nav and DC systems. You did a great job on this tutorial and your wiring was in-line with everything professionally expected... and then some... to what Raymarine would expect. Your experience with their Tech Support is just a microcosm of ALL Tech Support in general. Not to beat them up too much, but most tech support engineers (and I was one for many years for high end medical electronics equipment) deal with such bottom-feeding, slack-jawed, mouth breathing IDIOTS, that we assume all these calls are from the same ilk. But you are obviously NOT THAT! Truly with an eye and envious attention to detail. I am glad you figured out the issue without all the added cost and dealings with Raymarine direct. AND .... I applaud you for using crimp connectors and leaving the soldering/taping methods on your Yamaha... FAIR WINDS my friend!

      I worked in customer service for online products. They push people at our end of the call to solve issues quickly and get off the phone and help someone else. When you are on a call for a long time the company I worked for frowned on it. Customer Service is going downhill. The company disappointed me. I like it when I was able to assist people with their questions to answer all of their issues with their product I continued doing it my way and I ended up quitting. When I buy any product I want answers. I invested my money in their product I expect answers. I felt the same thing when customers called our company they want answers and as a company employee the customer should be able to get their concerns met even if it takes a half hour to solve their issues and sometimes it takes less or more. The most important thing to me will they continue to do business with our company or just say the Hell with them. That was my attitude toward the company I had Supervisors told me the customer praised me and they look at how long I was on the call with the customer. Why was I on with the customer for 45 mins on that call I should have resolved those issues within 5 mins. I told them next time. I will smile and go back and do my job the way I know how.

    OMG That same guy is unfortunately still there. I had the exact same issue, Originally,I selected Drive type Hydraulic type 1 which is the type pump and the pilot would make a hard turn to the port, not clear in instructions. I called the tech support and that same dbag kept interrupting me while I was describing the issue, he kept saying stop stop stop and when I politely asked him if I could finish my sentence he said we are all done here and hung up. What a terrible person to put in front of the brand, I just spent 10k on upgrading all Raymarine electronics on my 380DA and could not believe this kind of service. I am glad I found this because when I selected Wheel and redid the dockside wizard it now works perfect now. Thanks you and nice install. RM that guy should be fired!.

    No certified mechanic would do a better job installing that. Nice job tieing down all the loose cables. Everything should be very stable, wish I did work that nice. I got an autopilot for the Carver last year and it was so nice to be able to leave the helm to get a drink or sandwich from the fridge, or go to the bathroom. Having to stay at the helm every second for the entire day is exhausting. I love having the autopilot drive while i sit in different positions on the boat where I can see any hazards ahead but not necessarily sitting in the drivers seat all day.

      You keep saying they didn't want to help. What he was telling you to do is the proper way to determine if you have a power issue first and foremost. Then they go further. As an installer it is the same procedures for us and what they are to tell you on the phone. Good news though. You got the best AP on the Market. It will always have a bar on bottom of screen. That is the percentage telling you what it has learned. It is a constantly learning machine. It learns from your driving and learns how to act in different conditions and situations.

What i want is WHEN THE AUTOmatic Pilot is working, i want my rudder don't work manually; I mean, the RUDDER dont have to move, if i move it with my hands............. I think you (without intention) made the tech supporter believe you had a bad ACU. At 5:18 in the video he asks you to verify the output voltage from the ACU is 12 volts WHILE CHANGING your course by 90 deg (this will supply the pump with power). The voltage going straight is NOT what he asked for. When you told him the output voltage was not the expected 12 volts he correctly assumed the ACU was bad...Try go back and measure the voltage while you make a turn ! ;-)

    Nice install captain 👍, I’m sorry I failed to let you know about the company’s technical support,, in a nut shell they absolutely suck!!, they initially told me because I was interfacing my EV100 into my Lawrence Chart plotter that it would not work because the plotter would not recognize the sea talk instead of an Nemma 2000 bus,,WRONG!!!!! With some research and a couple of phone calls I found out that it would interface but I needed to pick up a couple of special fittings for my lowrence plotter . They really are knuckle heads but was pre warned of that problem with that particular company. Anyway looks like you cleared it up yourself which is always the best way👍👍, have you connected the auto pilot up to you Garmin yet?? That’s when the system will truly shine😉👌👌.

    Regardless of Raymarines customer non-service, you are going to truly enjoy having the AP. Just takes a whole lot of work off of you, Captain.
    Most marine electronics companies have dismal customer service. Sad fact in our beloved sport.

    Ray Marine needs to fire that dude. Not everyone is rich and can spend hard earned money for no reason. I hope that someone sees this video that can put him in his place. Meanwhile i hope you dont have any more problems. Thanks for all the great videos !

      Out On The Reef dumb question. With the currents in the ocean will it compensate for your heading? Or will the current carry you way off your course?

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garyk6990 it may carry you a little bit off track because I don't have it connected to a GPS but I can always correct that a little bit anyway I'm looking at the shart often but at least I don't have to steer so maybe every five minutes I have to just to correct a little bit which is not a big deal for me as long as I don't have to touch the steering wheel I will be okay.
      But definitely yes I'm sure it will,
      But I will buy a connection soon to see if I can connect both units together but if I do I will let you know

      You really owe Raymarine an apology for your comments about them in your video and in this comments section. The tech repeatedly said to turn the autopilot 90 degrees when checking the output on the ECU and never once did you do that. He told you EXACTLY how to properly diagnose the issue and it was you who didn't understand.
