Nah the base ps5 and base models of past PS imo are always superior than the slims
An important thing is Sony has never officially called this the slim. As far as they’re concerned, it’s just a revision. I believe they think this because this model seems less about making it slim, and more on cutting production cost. Of course this means it eventually ends up being slightly smaller, but the big part is the module disc drive. This allows them to basically produce the same ps5 model, only having to add the disc drive for those specific models. It most likely is a purely business reason to cut overall cost down. And it’s not targeting people so already have one, but those who don’t. Unfortunately it didn’t get a price cut even with these cost saving measures.
Simply just a console hardware revision. Target audience was never for existing PS5 console owners. I do agree a price cut would’ve been nice for these slim models to prepare for PS5 Pro pricing.

Sony and Playstation constantly want too save money and in turn make money. Ponies always rave about ''consoles sold'', but they never seem too listen or acknowledge the news that Sony/Playstation are NOT earning the amounts they need. What cracks me up is, their BiPolar approach to hardware. This generation alone, 5 Revisions of the standard PS5 console Then the PS5 Slim Then the disc drive if you buy the all digital Then the PSVR2 (not selling and now made mammoth price cuts) Then the PS Portal Then all the revision's and designs of their Pro Controllers (which again have not sold the way they want) Then all but confirmed the PS5 Pro All this hardware that is NOT NEEDED, costs s##t loads too make! PSVR just isn't wanted by the masses - waste of money The revisions of the PS5, the digital, the extra hard drive, the slim - waste of money The PS5 Pro, total joke considering Playstation have NOTHING OUT NOW that is fantastic and pushes the standard PS5 too it's limits, let alone needing a Pro model - will be a waste of money Just seems Playstation were known for their incredible single player games, and pushing their hardware too the limits, yet now in 2024, the games have dried up, the PS5 hasn't been pushed, and all Sony care about is pushing the next product. The last MASSIVE power house of a company that acted like this, was SEGA in the 90's...... and we all know how that ended.
Hi Basement Gamer, it was recently announced the PS5 Pro will cost 959 CAD/699 USD/799 EUR . I am curious, do you think that is a fair price looking at the advantages of the Pro over the standard version? Do you plan to get one? A video or text answer would be highly appreciated, thank you very much!
It is slimmer. This PS5 is meant for new customers. Takes up less space. It isn't meant for you to replace your current OG PS5. If you are a hardware geek then yeah getting the new slim is great as it looks like the most modern PS5 even though many people say it looks ugly. Also PS5 Pro gonna be expensive. PS5 slim is the entry level system and will get great games for many many years. Also when PS released it they didn't make a big deal out of it because it was never meant to be something amazing. It's just cheaper to make. Black Friday they will become cheaper. Also Sony rarely call it the Slim. Basically it's better than nothing. It's a bit smaller which is great. It's like the ps4 slim. Not many people liked the look of the ps4 slim.
I’m glad I got two original PS5’s for me and my son I don’t like the PS5 slim it doesn’t look premium to me. Also the PS5 slim was made for the masses that couldn’t get the original playstation 5 it’s the only reason. I’m not buying the PS5 pro either not much difference i’ll buy the playstation 6 instead I also bought an xbox series x in October 2022 it was easier to get.🥂😏
Slim console are not made to be "worth it" for the buyers vs the Fat versions. It's meant for them to lower costs and sell the consoles at the same price point roughly of the original Fat's price. Also. I think Sony never officially calls their playstations "slim," it's just shops and websites that call it "slim" for it to be easier than calling it PS5 revision CECH0123 or w/e codes they use nowadays. I think it was always a way to "lower costs", and for the consumers, I think (at least for ps3 and ps2) they were also meant to consume less energy. Just my two cents, no expert or anything, just a long time PlayStation fan. =]
The slim versions of Playstations are made to reduce manufacturing cost. Some features of a launch model are always removed this way. Sometimes slims are more reliable because Sony perfected the manufacturing process.
Still buying games for my PS4 library almost up to 50 games I think 🤔 and waiting on 2 pre orders currently one won't be out till 2025. Building a switch game collection slowly on the side while I wait to see if the switch 2 will be backwards compatible with the switch games if not I'll be forced to buy a switch 1 at a later time.
The detachable disk 📀💿 trey should have been included in the box with the console that's like selling someone a whole gallon of paint and giving them only half of it then selling the other half to you for full price again or selling the console without any controller's.
I'm skipping the PS5 Slim, I bought the original in the sales and then bought another one when I found out the original PS5 was going to be gradually phased out. I plan to buy the PS5 Pro if it come in piano black and has a disc drive.
This was made to push people into buying the digital only console, since the majority of Playstation software is sold digitally, with physical on the decline, its a psychological tatic, they want you to see how expensive the physical version is so you're more likely to get the all digital version +the stand+games, maybe another controller and a headset, so you think youre getting a better savings, when you're really not. Apparently its working because the Playstation is out selling the Xbox 4 to 1 or even 5 to 1.
I feel like the Slim should've been the original? Optional disc drive from the go, instead of two models. And the Slim should be some sort of lower priced, higher performing variant?
The entire point of the ps5 slim is to just update the from the original model for new buyers. It's not supposed to be an upgrade for owners of the original. You would know that if u rubbed two brain cells together. This model replaces the original model so yes it is necessary just as much as the original model was cuz the original model isn't gonna be sold anymore. Maybe do your research. Btw the detachable disc drive comes with the physical version. You don't have to buy that separately. I feel like ppl just complain to complain these days
Im still on my ps4, I have not really gotten into what is out right now and id rather save my money and keep playing the games I have. Could just be im getting older now lol
As someone who travels a lot with a PS5 (don't ask), yeah, I would switch to the slim if money wasn't an issue. The damn thing is heavy and cumbersome.
My ps5 is the original, with custom plates, and my main system. I got the slim ps2,3,and4. I was gonna wait, but it seemed like it was not gonna happen, and I got a good deal on a new one, that was returned. The slim ps5 is good, if u don’t have one, but not necessary if u do. I always put my consoles horizontal, and do t like the vertical look. Ps5 pro will be another money hog, to do what we were promised on the ps5 in 2020. Just make better games, not more systems. Play ps3 games on a ps3 (with the ps5 controller, see video on my channel) play ps2 games on a ps2. And ps1 games on a ps2,3,or original. The systems are still good, even with the new ones out.
This generation I've played ONE game that isn't available on the ps4. I had a PS4 pro with an ssd before I bought the ps5 and I feel like I wasted my money on upgrading. I would have been fine with the PS4 pro.
Fat looks so much better, it accepts more personnal customization and the slim is more expensive than the fat here this thing breaks the concept of slim being cheaper
Exactly. They RARELY say it. It's just the new more efficient model. It being smaller makes it cheaper to make. They made the ps5 slim box way smaller so they can actually ship more around the world much cheaper. PS5 didn't have any red ring of death issues so obviously they can't improve on something that functioned correctly. PS5 slim does look ugly but when you put the dark plates on it it actually looks really nice.
@@brandonlee7382 They even took the handle off the Slim box and made the internal one out of cheaper cardboard. Maximising profit on each unit sold even more. What they didn't do is redesign the DualSense to be more resilient - it's just as likely to get stick drift.
@garydiamondguitarist Sad part is I reckon both Sony and Microsoft think of ways to make your controller last barely any time. They probably try get it lasting 1 year as a goal so it goes past the warranty. I went through a 3 month phase where I went through so many elite Xbox controllers because of stick drift. For some reason the white variant that released in 2019 kept breaking. So they certainly could make the controllers last so much longer. Look at old controllers from years ago and they still working!! I picked up an Xbox 360 and it came with a old Xbox 360 controller which was atleast 15 years old because it was the Xbox 360 elite controller. The buttons did stick when I pressed them but when I opened it up and cleaned it it's bloody good as new!! No new parts required. Only issue with Xbox 360 controller was the rubber would rub off the sticks but that's easy to replace. Sony has made so many versions of the duelsense which is concerning as they each newer one probably got cheaper parts. They thinking oh that variant isn't drifting soon enough so let's make it worse on the next
@@brandonlee7382 I agree, Elite controllers aren't well made, either version. The rubber grips can come off on the first one, and both are prone to the top bumpers failing. Meanwhile, I have DualShock 3 and WaveBird controllers from generations past, two decades old that still work perfectly and hold more charge than the DualSense. Even the DualShock 4 is more durable.
I don't even own a PS5 see no point in buying one to play a few games that are actually new and not on anything else or will be on anything else in current time's. The PC with a 30 series card or greater and GOG or Steam or other sources help with that play online free in most cases depending on titles and most games have controller support or you can add it in by tampering around with settings.
i'm on pc and only a few people i know even bought a ps5. mostly people over 30 who play ark or cod bought it and a few of my school friends who prefer console over pc
I switched from Console to PC in 2019 and gladly switched back to Console in 2021. The argument of “free online” is a silly reason to just automatically opt into PC. If you’re just simply trying to play games, objectively console is super easy to get into from a casual gamer perspective. Both price and UI functionality. PC’s target audience is for settings tinkerers, resolution snobs, frame rates for FPS games, overall enthusiasts, and for people who mod games or emulate classic titles. All great reasons to get a PC. PC is awesome! But why that group of gamers has so much hate for people who chose console is baffling to me. Not everyone needs to have this crazy build and monitor setup. Some people just wanna play COD on their 75” TV 😂😂😂

@Peace.and.knowledge1 it's a removable disk drive. And the ps5 uses nvme SSD storage not hard drive.
PS5 pro > fat and slim
Sony and Playstation constantly want too save money and in turn make money.
Ponies always rave about ''consoles sold'', but they never seem too listen or acknowledge the news that Sony/Playstation are NOT earning the amounts they need.
What cracks me up is, their BiPolar approach to hardware.
This generation alone,
5 Revisions of the standard PS5 console
Then the PS5 Slim
Then the disc drive if you buy the all digital
Then the PSVR2 (not selling and now made mammoth price cuts)
Then the PS Portal
Then all the revision's and designs of their Pro Controllers (which again have not sold the way they want)
Then all but confirmed the PS5 Pro
All this hardware that is NOT NEEDED, costs s##t loads too make!
PSVR just isn't wanted by the masses - waste of money
The revisions of the PS5, the digital, the extra hard drive, the slim - waste of money
The PS5 Pro, total joke considering Playstation have NOTHING OUT NOW that is fantastic and pushes the standard PS5 too it's limits, let alone needing a Pro model - will be a waste of money
Just seems Playstation were known for their incredible single player games, and pushing their hardware too the limits, yet now in 2024, the games have dried up, the PS5 hasn't been pushed, and all Sony care about is pushing the next product.
The last MASSIVE power house of a company that acted like this, was SEGA in the 90's...... and we all know how that ended.
I never bought a PS5.....now I wait for the PRO.
Sony really dont care and dont even try to have amazing design
I’m not buying the PS5 pro either not much difference i’ll buy the playstation 6 instead I also bought an xbox series x in October 2022 it was easier to get.🥂😏
Better wait for ps5 pro

Good luck with that
Slim console are not made to be "worth it" for the buyers vs the Fat versions.
Actually they call it slim on their own official website
I love the Ps5.........haven't bought it yet......
I am going to replace the original PS5 I have now with the slim model
I just realized you are KevingoHD.
I thought you were a small gaming youtuber.
What is the game you playing in the background 🤔
Stellar Blade
9:05 - "... cooked, deadass."
I got the slim with disc edition and I love it I got the Spiderman Bundle
9:00 the PS5 ‘Slim’ everybody wants is the 30th Anniversary Edition
I feel like the Slim should've been the original? Optional disc drive from the go, instead of two models. And the Slim should be some sort of lower priced, higher performing variant?
Yeah XBOT! greaT rEVIEW
I love this guy!
Cool comment bro you dont sound like a complete a**hole at all
@@CongoTheBongo spreading false info is harmful to this industry we all claim to love
I stuck with my OG , ps5 slim was pointless
Im still on my ps4, I have not really gotten into what is out right now and id rather save my money and keep playing the games I have. Could just be im getting older now lol
As someone who travels a lot with a PS5 (don't ask), yeah, I would switch to the slim if money wasn't an issue. The damn thing is heavy and cumbersome.
I'll take my old school PS5 any day over the new one
@@keithlange576 old school haha
Why would they put vents on the top of the console? They're just going to get full of Doritos dust and weed particles
You don't have to buy a slim if you have a normal ps5. But you will be glad you have multiple modern consoles when gta 6 comes out.
I just ordered mine and this is the first video pop up to me💀💀
If you don’t use one. I’d like to borrow one
My wait for the ps5 pro is almost over, BUT I hope it looks better than these ugly ass clam shells.
Does it overheat like PS5 fat, I own PS5 fat and every time I play a disc game my whole room becomes a sauna?
Might want to take off the face plates and clean the fan. Super easy and if you need tips plenty of videos on TH-cam to help.
All the homies upgraded to the ps5 and I went back to the ps3 🔥
The reason i got the slim is for the storage capacity i'd rather have 1 tb vs 825 gb
This generation I've played ONE game that isn't available on the ps4. I had a PS4 pro with an ssd before I bought the ps5 and I feel like I wasted my money on upgrading. I would have been fine with the PS4 pro.
I think you should get a Steam Deck and move on from Consoles. Join us Mr. Canada man
It looks simple? Buy the plates! That's why they sell them. They do many colours.
It's cheaper to produce. Less heatsink and less plastic. Song didn't want you to buy another one nor did they brand it as slim.
The pro is gonna be around 700 dollars from what I heard. I hope that's wrong.
Have you tried buying a used car lately everything on this planet is stupid
Dehumidifier put one in that room.
Fat looks so much better, it accepts more personnal customization and the slim is more expensive than the fat here this thing breaks the concept of slim being cheaper
If I have understood it correctly Sony hasn't called any of the console revisions 'slim', that's just a universally adopted term associated with it.
Actually they have, on their website and a few other places for the PS5 it's described as Product Group: Slim.
The PC with a 30 series card or greater and GOG or Steam or other sources help with that play online free in most cases depending on titles and most games have controller support or you can add it in by tampering around with settings.
the reason they do this is to get more margins...
Personally I think the PlayStation 1 looks better then the PS5 even the small white PsOne which has the best shell design in my personal opinion.
It was made to save sony money on production, not us.
Wouldn’t the specs have told you what you’ve now experienced…?😅
Tbh Sony should’ve released the pro not the slim last year
kevingohd moment
i waited for the slim. beggars cant be choosers.
PS5 as a whole isn't necessary
i'm on pc and only a few people i know even bought a ps5. mostly people over 30 who play ark or cod bought it and a few of my school friends who prefer console over pc
i think consoles nowadays are the biggest pieces of dogshit u can buy
@@Khammett202 At no point does the original comment you're replying to name "free online" as an advantage PCs have over PS5.
