Razormind is the quintessential Payday 2 track: quiet but tense section for when the heisters are maintaining stealth, solid build up followed by a drop for if the heisters' cover has been blown & the cops are on their way, and a hard-hitting high-energy that can loop into itself while not sounding boring for when the heisters are actively fighting off a police assault. The "cover blown" section also repeats (partially) during any lulls between police assaults. This, "Break the Rules" (which you've already done), "Evil Eye", and "Ode to Greed" are my favorites of Viklund's tracks. "Black Yellow Moebius" is also a crowd favorite.
It's been years since I last played it, but still listen to the soundtrack here and there. "Razormind" along with "Donacdum" are my faves, I believe the latter is one of the few ones that isn't Viklund. I just love how the VA lines are sampled in it.
Payday 2's ost is the best at building and hyping that tension and then releasing it. It's so good everytime. I can't think of another game that has such a mastery over this. That phrase you said "I'm confident and uncomfortable at the same time" is the best description I could have only dreamed of saying.
Simon Viklund did a incredible job with the ost for this game! The game music will change as the heist progresses through 4 phases, they open on "stealth" and loop there if you are successful on stealthing the entire mission but if things go "loud" the stealth part of the song will transition to a "control" phase which is the start of the song that begins to amp up a little bit, cops are arriving, you're hiding away hostages and its a stand still.. for the next few moments it will change again into what we call the "anticipation" phase where the police who arrived first to the scene retreat and swat teams slowly enter their way towards you (this phase can go as long as 30 seconds which suits the name anticipation very well!), then the fun starts and the assault wave starts as all hell breaks loose cops are relentlessly throwing themselves at you and you just have to survive this onslaught. We call this the "sustain" phase, and finally once you kill off enough swat they will retreat and you and your team will have a few seconds of respite to collect yourselves after a horde of police.. the music fades down for a couple seconds; this is called the "fade" phase. After that the music will go back into control then moves to anticipation and right back into sustain continuing that loop of awesome varied music until you finish the heist. This is why you didn't hear any loop to the song here!
I remember my buddies who have 1000s of hours in payday buying me the game and saying "you've played shooters? You'll be fine, just do what we tell you" and booting up a pretty difficult mission. This brings me back to that very first play session. Me, the rookie in this heist, trying to listen to the shots my veteran buddies are calling while this music is pounding in my adrenaline-filled brain and the fuzz are coming in HOT on our squad while we try and run with the cash. Payday 2 is a thrill, that's such a great core memory. So immersive.
Indeed, it's a first person game, & co-op w/ up to 4 people. Often the bank heists start off stealthy, like Ocean's Eleven. But security guards or cameras can catch someone off guard, & then things escalate to what's essentially a Michael Bay film of conflict proportions. Exaggerated numbers of armored cops trying to gun you down. That shift from quiet, classy & non-lethal, to hostage taking, grenade tossing. It's riveting stuff. As I commented before in your previous Payday reaction, Evil Eye is my favorite track. I'm sure you'll remain curious until the request finally appears. Also, regarding Payday 1, it was good, but Payday 2 came out, & was so well supported w/ new content for the longest time, & was much more fun, that it garnered a large, consistent player base over a long time. It's been a bit of a hectic ride for the devs, but they've recently announced Payday 3 in the works. I await the new soundtrack w/ baited breath.
Seconding Evil Eye- with the exception that I can't choose it if I'm trying to fully stealth a mission, haha. Something about the buildup section starts to make my skin crawl as it loops; and if I'm stealthing successfully then it never gets to the loud part 😂
PAYDAY 1 and 2 are pretty different. I wouldn't say 2 is "better" as much as it is different. I prefer the first game by virtue of it not having as much bloat and having a Michael Mann-esque tone. That and I prefer its music.
Payday 1 was kind of a cops and robbers themed Left 4 Dead clone, 2 is much more of an different game doing more than just being a horde shooter with map objectives. Also, for the police assaults, I think the most accurate comparison to what the police response to any crime looks like in my opinion is Blues Brothers from 1980.
Payday 2 is back on the channel again! Super glad to see it, after your Break The Rules video a full year ago :) Simon Viklund also has several videos on his personal youtube channel breaking down some of the songs he's done!
The sight of Razormind showing up on the channel makes me so happy, because its such a classic payday 2 track and is one of the first heist themes a player will usually get to hear and man does it nail it as a first impression. Even better, this track is the first of literally *dozens,* and Every track is just as good as this. It is not inaccurate to say that Payday 2 without the music wouldn't be nearly as good as it is because the music is just so good and such an integral part of the game. Also, if you're wondering what the best track in the game might be, here's a fun fact for you, its name is Random, because none of them are bad! Its presence here makes me hope that we get the perfect encapsulation of the payday series in the form of the (hilariously enough) April Fools Music Track "It's Payday!" some time soon. I fully expect someone to request it once we get a concrete release date for Payday 3 if its not already in the request list frankly. I kid you not, I have never heard someone go so hard for an april fools joke and as soon as it was possible I literally replaced the main menu music with the april fools track because its just so good.
The Payday OST has a consistent structure to it as it's one of the mechanics of the game. It is split into sections 1, Stealth/setup, where the crew of heisters has not tripped any alarms and no one knows they're being robbed yet. 2, Control, being where the alarms have gone off and the cops are on their way. They must use this time to take control of the place and get the job done 3, Buildup/tension. The cops are on scene and are starting to get into position. Things are about to get hot and you don't have too long now. and 4, Assault. The real meat of every track. The police charge in en masse in an effort to bring you in dead or alive. Survive until you force the cops to regroup and the song dies down and loops back around to 2 until you leave, either in the getaway or in cuffs.
The assault track is the longest segment of the track because if you go loud, chances are you'll spend more time in the assault wave than not, so Simon (and the artists who came after his departure from Overkill) made sure to give us plenty of song so it doesn't feel like a tedious loop
Fun fact: the game this is from is a heist-based shooter where you can beat people with a comically large spoon. Also fun fact: this song perfectly fits the shooutout scene from Heat, one of the classic heist movies that inspired Payday 2.
The percussion during the beginning is Very reminiscent of the jokers theme from the dark knight (the heist during the intro) always loved this music lol even though I've never played pd2
The lore of this game is crazy, i love the gameplay loop, and the music is always a JAM! But the lore doesn't matter if you like to unga bunga shoot and rob things >:)
The Payday soundtrack is full of tracks that I call "Deadline Material" because they are like an energy drink for my ears when I'm running late on a project.
I liked your idea about this song bridging the gap between genres. You aren't wrong by any means and I tend to love songs that can almost bring you into a genre when you weren't thinking about it in the first place.
I've been waiting for more Payday 2 on this channel. Many people would say that the soundtrack is what elevates Payday from your average shooter to a great shooter. It just adds so much hype to your heisting. A personal recommendation of mine would be "Trouble Always Inbound" and "Mr. Purple" from the Reservoir Dogs crossover. Though "Evil Eye" is a lot of people's favorite. That one is from the Hotline Miami crossover (lots of crossover in Payday)
Composer behind payday OST know how to get you moving. Most tracks has this urgency, that "gotta run" feeling to them, which also transition to their other work. Their work in "GTFO", co-op horror survival game, has exact same feel of "Oh shit, we gotta go", but with a more tension\terror vibes.
From what I understand about how Payday music is made, the more “metal” stuff represents the gang, while the electric stuff is the cops coming in. Also if you like some Opera music, but payday like, then Ode to Greed is a great one
I often forget how good Razormind actually is, because when I think of it the first thing I recall is that high-pitched siren when the assault starts. This video reminded me of the excellent buildup that leads to that siren, and the incredible work that follows after it! And, listening to it again basically transported me back to Harvest & Trustee Bank, played that heist so many times that I must've spent entire months within its walls.
The Payday 2 OST is amazing, it has such a diverse set of tracks with many different genres. Some tracks I would recommend listening to are: Drifting Deadeye Driveshaft The Take 2016 Crime Wave 2015 Three Way Deal Left In The Cold Ojos De Esmeralda These are just a few amazing tracks to choose from, there are many more bangers.
The game has 4 phases in a level and you can hear that in this song, it's very clear in this song. You have Stealth, no alarms triggered, the guards are ok, Control/Anticipation, the alarm has triggered, the cops have been altered, Assault, the cops are on you and attacking then Fade, the mission is over. The start of the song loops as long as you don't trigger the alarm.
Simon is great. He even has a main speaking role in the Game and even sings in a few Songs e.g "I will give you my all" A real multi Talent. PD2 would not be the same without him
I find it quite fitting that you describe this as a beehive, since whenever you go loud in this game and cops start coming, it's like you woke a beehive and are getting swarmed.
This is my absolutely favourite from the game, the way it adapts to gameplay and when you get into full out gunfire with huge armies of elite swat guys is unforgettable
Ah, the Payday 2 soundtrack. Healing and kitting up after a long stand, trying to move the loot quickly, and then suddenly a buddy says "oh shit guys, I can hear the drop coming!" and then getting ready for another wave of cops.
If the soundtrack made you uncomfortable and confident at the same time, that's perfect. That's basically what it was designed to do: make you terrified of the Police Assault to come, yet confident you'll defeat them.
I'm very happy to see Payday again! seriously we've gotta get more of these songs to you, it's honest to christ some of the best VGM out there. This track in particular was composed by Simon Viklund, but after 2018 or so he stopped composing for the game. The main new composer, Gustavo Coutinho has taken up the mantle very nicely, and a lot of his additions have been on par with some of Simon's best imo. That's not to knock the other either guest or transition composers however, as Le Castlevania composed a few guest tracks, and Carl Noren, whom also had some wonderful additions. I have to say that there just aren't any bad tracks despite being 90+ songs at this point. And personally I recommend Bonebreaker if you're feeling up to Mariachi music mixed with electric rock :)
"sounds like angry bee hive" - you couldn't explain this game any better. Literally an army of SWAT attacking 4 innocent heisters that definitely didn't steal any nukes or something....
My favorite part about this game's soundtrack is how dynamic it is. The song rises and falls with the gameplay, going wild as each wave of cops show up
The Payday tracks come in a few sections. In order on this I do believe they are the Stealth, Buildup, Assault and Control. Stealth part is before the alarm goes off, Buildup is when the police are about to start assaulting the place, Assault when they're coming in full force and Control is a slightly calmer period between the assaults as they gather around for another one.
So I don't know if it's been said, but Payday 2 Heist tracks have 4 parts. Stealth (Quiet and sneaky), Preparation (You've been discovered, things are about to get real), Anticipation (The initial wave of first responder cops and ai), and finally Assault (when combat is at it's apex and you're mowing through waves of enemies). It's a genius move with the music to tease the player, build the tension, and when the tension pops it's perfectly in sync with just going ham. I love Payday 2's OST and it's all fantastic.
What you also might be interested in is "Fuse Box" and "Time Window" from the Payday 2 soundtrack. They are essentially the exact same genre/style like Razormind, but carry a complete different mood, which I think is very interesting and cool. Favourites of mine for sure!
This is actually my favorite track in the game. Nothing beats drilling your way through an army of police during that drop. I cant wait to hear the music in Payday 3
I feel like I should throw out some recommendations on other tracks to listen to. So, here we go. (I’ll also mark personal favorites with a *) Backstab * Drop Zone Locke & Load And Now We Wait * (Fun fact, it’s the original composers’s favorite track that he made for the game.) Pulse * Jokes On You Sly Gloves Steel Wrapped Gift * Death Row * Donacdum Bullet Rain * Underground Lockdown * Tricks of the Trade Propulsive Force Blast Our Way Out * Storm Fuel Overload Driveshaft * Trainwreck Left in the Cold * Blastaway * 8 Bits Are Scary * Dirt & Dust Sucker Punch * (Best track. 12/10) And as its own bonus segment, remasters of tracks from the first game, Payday: The Heist. Aside from one (which I’ll point out) the only difference in track name is the year number, which is when it was remastered. I’ll put the remaster year in parentheses for clarification and formatting reasons. Stone Cold (2017) * (Best Remake track and best PDTH track imo) Double Cross (2017) * Code Silver (2018) * Breach of Security (This is that exception, the remake is simply called Breach 2015) Gun Metal Gray (2015) * Crime Wave (2015) The Take (2016) Three Way Deal (2016, and a side note, it’s the one track I prefer the original over the remake. It’s just faster.) Home Invasion (2016) and finally, a track originally just made by the initial composer Simon Viklund as a normal song, but the remake is also a heist track. I Will Give You My All (2017) * (It’s also my Cousin’s favorite track) And it’s only after I type this that I realize I could’ve just said to listen to all of it. Eh, this’ll at least give you a good baseline to work with. Have fun, this is legitimately the best OST I’ve heard to date. Hope you enjoy it.
Payday the Heist (PD1) is also a great game that felt more realistic and I recommend checking that games ost too, also PD2 has some remakes of the songs from the first game.
Oh man... if you'd be interested in checking out more of the soundtrack, even if it's just on your own time, you're in for a wiiiiild, amazing ride. Payday 2 has a pretty massive OST, and not a SINGLE track disappoints, even the tracks that only play during stealth heists, one of my favorites of which being White Collar Crime. Payday 2 is absolutely one of my favorite video game OSTs of all time, bar none. I hope you'll keep checking out this OST, for my money it's one of the best of all time.
I recommend listening to some Shadow of the colossus music. Especially "A Messenger from behind" or "A Violent Encounter". The guitar versions from those two by Ferdk are also really good!
Hey Jesse, can we make requests here or do you only take into account requests made on Patreon? I'd like to see your reaction to the song Rise by Zamilska from the Ruiner soundtrack. Cheers! Keep up the great videos.
I saw you listened to a song from the game Loop Hero, that song was pretty good but nothing compared to the boss portals. You should REALLY listen to "Loop Hero OST - All Boss Portals Appears" Whenever I watch a twitch streamer play loop hero and one of these songs pops up, the ENTIRE chat jams RichaadEB made a cover on the 1st portal: Loop Hero: Cosmic Temperance (Lich Portal Appears) - RichaadEB Metal Cover Absolute banger!
this song is great but nowhere near the peak of the soundtrack, so many great songs from a bunch of talented composers. the first game has some amazing music too I could spend hours talking about the series' ost tbh I love so many songs. it's a shame that the soundtrack versions of some songs are worse than the in game ones though, a huge one for me is the lack of the crunchy bass noise in the assault phase of The Mark
"I didn't bring a minigun and load up Razormind to play the heist quietly."
*LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO!*
The exact quote is I didn’t bring a minigun and load up razormind to raid the department of justice quietly
"I may have a 60% chance to dodge a bullet but I don't have 60% chance to dodge alimony. That's a 100% chance to it"
"This ammo doesn't belong to you" does it matter? I'd be more than happy to give the department of justice their bullets back
The United Bank of M O N E Y
The thing about payday music is that it becomes strange to not hear Bain saying something before the drop
"Don't die!"
“Alright ramblers, let’s get rambling”
"The thermal drill, go get it!"
"Chains is in a pickle"
The most fitting part of it is that Simon Viklund, the guy behind the music, is also the voice actor for Bain.
8bits are scary is also pretty good, mediocre heist its attached to but holy hell did they go all out with it.
The mark is my fav
And dont forget i give you my all
Payday 2's ost is the best at building and hyping that tension and then releasing it.
It's so good everytime. I can't think of another game that has such a mastery over this.

I went into this expecting the glasses to be worn.
I was not disappointed.
Indeed, it's a first person game, & co-op w/ up to 4 people. Often the bank heists start off stealthy, like Ocean's Eleven. More Payday 2 plz! In terms of hype music Payday is one of the best in gaming. With PD3 on the way I hope we get the same level of production.
“Guys the thermal drill”
This is actually my favorite track in the game. Nothing beats drilling your way through an army of police during that drop. I cant wait to hear the music in Payday 3
with the sun glasses you look like bain from the game
I feel like I should throw out some recommendations on other tracks to listen to.
So, here we go.
(I’ll also mark personal favorites with a *)
Backstab *
Drop Zone
Locke & Load
And Now We Wait * (Fun fact, it’s the original composers’s favorite track that he made for the game.)
Pulse *
Jokes On You
Sly Gloves
Steel Wrapped Gift *
Death Row *
Donacdum
Bullet Rain *
Underground Lockdown *
Tricks of the Trade
Propulsive Force
Blast Our Way Out *
Storm Fuel Overload
Driveshaft *
Trainwreck
Left in the Cold *
Blastaway *
8 Bits Are Scary *
Dirt & Dust
Sucker Punch * (Best track. 12/10)
And as its own bonus segment, remasters of tracks from the first game, Payday: The Heist.
Aside from one (which I’ll point out) the only difference in track name is the year number, which is when it was remastered.
I’ll put the remaster year in parentheses for clarification and formatting reasons.
Stone Cold (2017) * (Best Remake track and best PDTH track imo)
Double Cross (2017) *
Code Silver (2018) *
Breach of Security (This is that exception, the remake is simply called Breach 2015)
Gun Metal Gray (2015) *
Crime Wave (2015)
The Take (2016)
Three Way Deal (2016, and a side note, it’s the one track I prefer the original over the remake. It’s just faster.)
Home Invasion (2016)
and finally, a track originally just made by the initial composer Simon Viklund as a normal song, but the remake is also a heist track.
I Will Give You My All (2017) *
(It’s also my Cousin’s favorite track)
And it’s only after I type this that I realize I could’ve just said to listen to all of it.
Eh, this’ll at least give you a good baseline to work with.
Have fun, this is legitimately the best OST I’ve heard to date. Hope you enjoy it.
at last, the time has come
**Revs minigun**
My favourite track from Payday 2 is "Fuse Box".
My top 3 for payday 2 that I can absolutely recommend:
I will give you my all 2017 - (Simon Viklund)
Evil eye - (Simon Viklund)
Payday - (Alesso)
Every single theme in Pay Day 2 - is phenomenal, Simon Viklund is a musical genius , I hope that you'll listen to more of his masterpieces.
Ow. Paydays soundtrack. Thats unexpected but nice to hear. Game has absolutely banger tracks. Hope to see more reactions 🙂
I don't know why, but the guitar part always reminds me of the Spiderman cartoon opening riff from the 90s.
I think the music is one of the core reasons why I stuck about 1000 hours into this game 😅
I like to call this the police assault in progress song, partly because the memes, but also because screw cloakers
"Calling all Units" is also a good banger
Was this a remix of the bank level from Payday the Heist?
I recommend listening to some Shadow of the colossus music. Especially "A Messenger from behind" or "A Violent Encounter". The guitar versions from those two by Ferdk are also really good!
When you're listening to music while waiting at a bank, then Razormind plays...
Dude looks like bain
With those glasses
you do kinda look like a sertain character from the game...
woah, bain reacting to razormind, dope
Hey Jesse, can we make requests here or do you only take into account requests made on Patreon? I'd like to see your reaction to the song Rise by Zamilska from the Ruiner soundtrack. Cheers! Keep up the great videos.
Thanks Mike. Yes, Patreon or Paypal where don't have to subscribe. (Long wait time just a heads up)
This track was one of the sickest ones you've done in a while
Would love to hear some music from Hotline Miami as well as more Payday 2!
BAIN?!?
-Wolf 2013
Payday 2 ost got me act up no cap
Need to find someone who reviews the whole album 😩
Please do more Payday reacts, I´d suggest Sucker Punch because it´s the one I choose for most of my missions :3
At first i thought he's BAIN
i miss bain
damn
you look like him alot😂
He’s gotta listen to pizza tower ost “it’s pizza time” is so freakin sick
Now hit him with the meme song that isn't actually a meme song, especially the newer version.
Bone breaker, Gun Metal Grey 2015 or Evil eyea
I saw you listened to a song from the game Loop Hero, that song was pretty good but nothing compared to the boss portals.
You should REALLY listen to "Loop Hero OST - All Boss Portals Appears"
Whenever I watch a twitch streamer play loop hero and one of these songs pops up, the ENTIRE chat jams
RichaadEB made a cover on the 1st portal:
Loop Hero: Cosmic Temperance (Lich Portal Appears) - RichaadEB Metal Cover
Absolute banger!
Check your corners
reminds me of Black Ops 2 songs
this song is great but nowhere near the peak of the soundtrack, so many great songs from a bunch of talented composers. the first game has some amazing music too
I could spend hours talking about the series' ost tbh I love so many songs. it's a shame that the soundtrack versions of some songs are worse than the in game ones though, a huge one for me is the lack of the crunchy bass noise in the assault phase of The Mark
please react to future club from hotline miami
Payday 2 definitely died a slow, painful death for me, but the music from Simon Viklund never disappointed.
It's the best audio track ever in gaming history man 😂 it's like they got avinci and David guetta there 😂
Another interesting Payday track would be the haloween one, "8-bits are Scary", id give it a listen
DONACDUM
Pd2 tracks should be listened with gameplay. Otherwise, its just a bunch of background music.
This song reminds me of The Fast and the Furious, Need for Speed, and The Crystal Method. Pure 90s-mid 2000s Electronica.
Payday music is incredible u gotta listen to more stuff!
