Subaru wasn’t acting selfish there, in reality he actually said, “so then it's okay for you to trample all over people's hearts like that?!” It’s really unfortunate how CR keeps messing up their translations. Update: the mistranslation has finally been fixed!

To put it in very few and simple words... Her late husband was a super duper mega ultra rich man and now she owns everything he had... So she might be able to buy herself a country if she wanted to... But the actual reason behind her behaviour goes even deeper by miles... But that IS covered quite a lot in the actual story later so not gonna say anything about that... Except the fact that her way of thinking almost makes sense considering her background...

as a web novel reader, i think arc 4 had the most changes, followed by 3 and 5, and the most messed up is arc 6, with arc 7 having some pretty messed up moments too
People just say anything nowadays. Arc 5 wasn't "originally" super dark. It was originally super dragged out. The novel kept the events and slimmed it down, particularly the scenes involving the songstress.
