Like everyone else... and no shade to you, save your cardboard! Lay it down in the walkways of your garden to suppress weeds and you will use less water, or lay it down where you want to plant next year, or tear it into small pieces for fire starter, etc... I used it to add extra insulation inside my chicken coop during a hard freeze one winter and then it went into the compost pile. My neighbors save their cardboard for me. 😊 It's so useful AND I'm recycling! 💚 Also rake up the fall leaves of all those gorgeous trees to cover garden beds for the winter. They break down in the dirt and they are free. You can also use the upstairs loft as a dehydrating space since it gets so warm. Amazon has a very lightweight multi-tier round net/mesh dryer that I hang from the ceiling for drying herbs that is so handy.
Cardboard can be used as sheet mulch in your vegetable garden to help suppress the weeds. It’s not really burnable right now since it’s likely you have fire burn bans in that neck of the world. Having come from a municipal garbage collection to a “you haul” to the dump, I have to say I’ve come to love the you haul method, especially if you are living intentionally. It really opens your eyes to the personal non compostable waste that is generated by the household. It has changed my purchasing habits, ie types of products I’m willing to buy based on packaging and what my transfer station can recycle. You’re just 3 months in so waste will likely be more as you get settled, but for us it really subsided, and we aren’t “collectors” on our property, anything that could potentially become a resource for wildlife such as human food or man made habitats are protected and discarded.
Yup, fire ban! That is such a great point about being more intentional about what kind of things you bring in that you'll have to dispose of. I'll definitely be more conscious of that!
amazing, you guys are amazing. i love doing this off grid living. one thing i would like to suggest is dont throw the cardboard it can be use as bedings for your garden.
This was a beautiful video I just found the video and subscribed I am also building a off grid homestead and just started a TH-cam channel it’s all very tuff keep it up and I’ll keep watching
Where are you in the world? I love hearing about how other people are going off grid all over the place. Good luck with building your homestead and your channel!
@@thehomeintent We are in West Virginia. Going off grid is the way to go. Hard work but stress free. We love watching others going off grid as well. Each video we watch is someone’s technique but it helps learn and build upon what your own personal style is. It’s definitely an adventure for sure!
Was wondering if you could show your favourite recipes? Or canning recipes? I Could sent you some Can. Crook neck squash seeds. They grow really well in my zone 5b in ontario. Taste like butternut but have small bulb and long neck, ideal to make squash fries. I use garlic to deter deer near my fruit trees.
I am planning to share some cooking in the future! I don't have a lot of experience canning yet, but I do plan to get into it, so I'll share as I learn!
It’s a real shame you took that cardboard to the dump. It’s. Wonderful to use in the garden. Worms love to eat it and worms are great for the garden too. 😊
Harvesting herbs, for dinner? Hopefully herbs is not your actual dinner. Herbs can be used to compliment dinner like you can mix it with something else that you could grow, or you can try making something to drink from it if you are feeling sick, or if you have a problem with inflammation then herbs can try to be used to decrease inflammation.
I have no advice for you, I just LOVE your videos! They are so soothing. And I’m so proud of you!
Thanks ❤️
A little splash of apple cider vinegar in chicken drinking water cuts down on algea growth and is good for chicken health too.
Oh, great to know, thanks for sharing!
Hope you & family are safe distance from the wildfires.
Thanks, luckily we are!

you can put your cardboard that's just brown in your compost bin. :)

Great fix Mark!

Happy thoughts
Great video, Errika!
Thanks!
To clean the chicken waterer, I use a scrubbing brush that has a long handle so that I don't have to put my handa in the grotty chooks water 😂
@@Freedom4eva13 great tip, thanks! It is pretty nasty.

any danger of parasites walking barefoot in the chicken area? don't know but love seeing people do this while young. I waited to be retired

Luckily I'm sure there's more in my future! 😊
Couldn't you make a fire ring andburn up all the card board and any thing else thats burnable --less to take to the dump
Yes, we could! However it's been very hot for a while and we've been under a fire ban. But a good point for when we're not!
Use a metal burn barrel and dont over fill it during restricted fire zones for burning all kinds of garbage

Haha definitely not just herbs for dinner! As I mentioned, I made a lemon herb quinoa dish. So yummy!
Will you plan going to the dump on a weekly basis, or more on a as needed basis?
Definitely as needed. Right now it's happening about every 2 weeks! I'm definitely an "as few errands as possible" type of stay at home mom! 😆
Video thật tuyệt vời
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
Glue has to be water resistant in a greenhouse
Good point that Mark didn't think about! Well, he put many nails in, so we're hoping for the best! 😆
why not use the cardboard for garden to hold back the weeds?
Yup, a great idea!
