Exactly, it's a compliment. I could understand any outrage if the joke had compared her to some character like Lex Luthor (hence implying a woman without hair is not feminine enough) or something like Gollum (hence implying a woman without hair isn't beautiful enough) etc. Those would have been cruel jibes mocking her appearance but Chris's was well-intentioned. It's even a common kind of joke, comparing someone to a movie character. Nevertheless, Jada is free to feel however she wants especially since hair is a sensitive topic for her. Her eye-roll and shaking of her head was a good enough reaction to show her displeasure. What Will did came out of nowhere and is inexcusable.

Jadda and her promiscuous behavior with her sons friends have made a laughing stock out of Will Smith and he is really lucky it was such a tame joke, and family friendly. Then Will Smith showed even more of his bad side by dropping the F-bomb twice on live TV. Yes and it was purely a reference to her shaved hairstyle which was similar to that of Demi Moore’s in the original film. Plus Jada, Will Smith and fellow artists knew that in these kind of shows, they usually pick names as joke references, as is usually with most stand-up comedies too. People act as if they never watched any stand-up comedies before. So should we slap Russel Peters and Gabriel Iglesias for their racial jokes? Most comedies have references to race, cultures, religions, colour, accents etc. because these topics are easy to be related to human psychology. He and Jada have an open marriage where they are both allowed to explore connections to other people. Sorry if you are that insecure a man that you can't understand the idea of an open honest relationship. Or have this idea that a couple can be open and honest and allow others into the bedroom, either together or separate. They feel confident and strong enough together to allow each other to go and explore other things. If it bothered either one of them then they wouldn't do it.
Lets now look at the "joke" Chris rock effectively said "I see you have a debilitating disease that has meant you have lost your hair in an industry where women already have it very very tough, but it's ok, you can do this specific rle that doesn't exist yet"
If someone came up to your wife and made a joke, in front of a room full of people, about how fat she is, or how ugly she is, or the fact she has an illness would you laugh along and tell him he is great? No the sap was not the best way to deal with it but, lets be honest here, almost every husband would have wanted to do somethign in that situation.

AND Will Smith made bad comments for laughs aimed at women often in Fresh Prince and in later movies - but he does that silly smirk and everyone says it's OK then. But as you say, it was crossing the line - No matter what, you don't get to go up on stage and slap someone.

@@ws8080 Well, i personally didn't find a bad or good joke. I'm in different when it comes to the joke. I know i'm absolutely not offended by it. Even though my sister has alopecia as well. I don't care and guess who doesn't care either? My sister! You have to laugh it away. I've had leukemia, and after that i had Graft versus Host disease. My mom died of cancer. So we had already some misfortune in our life. Besides alopecia my sister also has reuma. She lives with a lot of pain every day 24/7. Just like me. And we still keep our head up and shake off all bad intentions or things said to me or to my sister. We simply don't care (anymore.) Was there a time where we cared about what was said about us? Sure, even now, sometimes we hear things but we just shake our heads and go on with our day. Life is too short to care too much and take yourself too seriously all the time. It's not always easy, i'll tell you that much. But we would never, NEVER assault someone. Well, not for telling a joke, (good or bad.)
So WS, i know all about life's misfortune. And how life isn't fair. I think Ricky Gervais said it best in a recent interview. Love the guy's view on it.

I am not sure if I am the only one who saw the real meaning behind Chris Rock's "joke". It was not a joke it was a "tribute" to Will Smith's wife. Doesn't anyone realize that G.I.Jane was or is an extremely strong woman, who stood up in the face of adversity and won. Jada is like G.I.Jane in as much as she is showing all the women of the world (all the people of the world) that you do not have to be ashamed of the way you look. Do people not realize how many women cover their heads because they are sick and lose their hair? It is because they think others will make fun of them and they are ashamed. Jada Pinkett Smith stands out as a woman who is saying to all these women, It is okay. You are still beautiful. Maybe Jada is too sensitive about her sickness (I think sometimes we all are too sensitive). Chris Rock, to me, paid Jada a very high compliment by refering to her as G.I.Jane (a woman of strength). Will Smith, I think that you, your wife and many, many other need to "Ease up off the back" of Chris Rock and apologize.

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge Chris’ composure after taking the slap? In a matter of seconds, he managed to pull himself together and keep a cool head while having dozens of spineless and sickening a-list celebrities staring at him (and millions of people watching). I mean how embarrassing and degrading that must have been? I would have felt so uncomfortable. No one in the audience dared to stand or speak up for him, but they were all on their feet for Will’s acceptance speech. Disgusting behaviour 🤢 They all showed their true colours that night: a bunch of money/fame driven butt kissers who sold their souls the minute they signed on with Hollywood. The industry is seriously fu***d should’ve been escorted out and stripped of his award. Shame on the academy first. If you can’t take a joke, Hollywood isn’t the place for you, plus the joke was lame. You know you might be the target if you attend events like this and a comedian is up there dishing out cheap jokes and roasts.
I’ve never taken to him and he always struck me as a very aggressive man, someone full of anger who needs serious therapy and guidance. I was right.

The Academy should have ran out to Chris Rock to ensure he was alright. They should have immediately removed Will Smith. He should not have been present to accept the best actor award. He soiled a once in a lifetime honor for so many receiving awards and being remembered and honored. He stole the show with violence verbally and physically. He harmed someone and people smiled and gave him standing ovations. Shook his hand. Hugged him. Let him ramble on and on. He is arrogant and self-aggrandizing. He has turned gross. Will Smith disgraced himself, his family, his ancestors. I am so sorry Chris Rock was left alone humiliated for no reason as people laughed. What if he had been white? Or a woman? Would we have left them alone to just continue on? Disgusting. In a world with so much violence, so stereotypes of people of color, and so many young people who need role models, he did a world of irreparable damage, and so did everyone there in there handling/non-handling of this crime. It was a crime. A criminal act. And the victim was left to fend for himself, laughed at by 1000’s. Just so gross.

Will Smith did to Chris Rock what Will's father did to him as a child and what Jada has been doing to him as an adult. They both physically, emotionally bullied and manipulated Will because he's weak.
Jada sleeps with her son's best friend and makes their personal lives public on a red table to manipulate him and the public to show how it's his fault and Will does nothing, he just takes it. Narcissists prey on weak individuals with high empathy who don't have boundaries and Will has been manipulated so much that he's now protecting his abuser.
Will slapped Chris because he saw an opportunity to assault someone he thought was weaker than himself to protect the image of his wife who is a toxic narcissist.
Will at that moment feared Jada more than the backlash of the world, losing his Oscar, getting kicked out of the academy, getting arrested and losing the respect of all his peers for assaulting Chris on a world stage, that speaks volumes and also explains why Will turned on a dime at that moment after seeing Jada's disgust. It also explains his strange behavior the rest of the night as if nothing had happened.
This isn't Will. He's lost his identity and questions his own reality because that's what toxic narcissists do to empathetic individuals. If someone doesn't intervene, he will spiral into severe depression. mark my words.

Will Smith, what a role model huh? Just what society needs to be shown as what
is acceptable behavior. Whether in an alley way, a shit-hole dive
bar/tavern or even on stage at any Academy Awards Presentation
w/millions watching. As an act of nobility - at any time a person takes
offense to ANY comment made, the recommended and justified response
should always be an immediate act of physical violence as a form of
retaliation w/out fear of any legal repercussion whatsoever.
Great job Hollywood, thank you for the illustration - it's exactly what
this country needs..unbelievable, what a fukn disgrace!!!

I think it was all staged to facilitate the implosion of Hollywood and the move to livestreaming. Oscars has had declining ratings for a few years now, because stars will not keep their politics to themselves. I think even that was done on purpose. This display is so arrogant, bizarre and sick that it puts you off from watching more of this ceremony.

The result of this has nothing to do with Will Smith, Chris Rock, but television standards watchdogs having a meeting with The Oscars Academy and the LAPD in a room to decide what the best punishment is for The Oscars Academy to correct the messaging over this seemingly condoned act of violence.

    • @jessicaadaora9109

Exactly Chris went to far with the joke, Will showed no self restraint or sense with the slap but the Oscars were the biggest disappointment of all, how did they let that happen on international tv and they just move on as if what just happened is ok, don’t address it, don’t there and then have someone come and say it wasn’t ok, just move on and give the award to Will as if condoning his actions. Then next year will use it as a weapon against certain movies and nominations. They are the ones that should be punished.

@@jessicaadaora9109 "too far with the joke" - It was very mild and it made an association with the beautiful Demi Moore in a movie about female empowerment.... Let's be real. Can't believe Rock was assaulted and then had to watch the perpetrator get a standing ovation mere minutes later. Sickening.

@@jessicaadaora9109, there was nothing offensive about the joke which Will Smith laughed at, too, until the wife rolled her eyes. What was he to do? Damn if he did something and damn if he just let it be. So awful to be shamed after all she has done to him. He still loves her but now he is a ruined man. It was his ego that got bruised again.

@@janetmalcolm3403 I agree for me personally the joke isn’t that deep, but for some people they are self conscious about certain things so it’s almost always best to stay away from looks, especially with regards to women. So I mean he took it to far in that sense, but to me I laughed too, I thought it was funny and also wouldn’t it be great in GI Jane 2.
