just do what Hollywood does. take away the sequential title, call it a soft reboot, but actually it's a prequel. An Ektachrome Christmas A Baxter Story
I like your content. Please never disappear. This is something special for filmmakers. I think this is a real treat. A real gem. Not everyone can just go out with their camera, you know?
as someone from the north bay who moved states for school, these videos where I immediately recognize every location are so comforting to watch. Thanks for another great video and dedicated chug, keep going. kodak has to see it soon, right?
ever try red / yellow filters on this stock to increase the natural contrast? that gradient between light and shadow is what really sets b&w stocks apart.
nice, up in my neck of the woods, the Headlands can be a bit sketchy glad you didn't get jacked, you should head up the coast to Point Reyes and the coast towns into Mendo and Humboldt. Love your vids, reminds me I have about 5 rolls to send to the Darkroom.
Great video, Mr Days. Just so you know, I emailed all Kodak bosses I could find online and asked about Aerochrome and linked to a time stamp of you drinking Mountain Dew. I'm fighting with you.
Omg that’s an unbelievably good video idea - get someone to load your cameras with different Ilford films and you shoot them, then try to work out which is which!
Yeah. Kodak having production issues. Fujifilm just keep wanting to become fujidigital by discountuing all but 2-3 types of film. It's time someone steps up the game to fill that market gap.
Kodak making C200 for Fuji. Everyone says it’s basically Gold. Ilford released a colour disposable camera which currently has Kodak stock inside it. XP2 is made by Ilford so I don’t see a massive leap to make regular colour film too.
Kentmere papers also used to be much lower in contrast back in the days when I still printed. It probably still is. On multigrade papers Ilford paper would be fine at Grade 2 whereas the same contrast would require grade 4 on Kentmere. Probably just less silver too.
Found your channel not too long ago and you've really inspired me to get into film photography! Just finished my first roll of film! Anyways thank you and love your vids :))
I pushed Kentmere 400 to 3200 before. Results were much more contrasty than at box speed, that's for sure. I developed Semi-Stand in HC-110 at a dilution factor of 1:63, for 45 minutes. 30 seconds of inversion at the start of the development, then 2 inversions every 9 minutes till the end.
Man those 192k subs are so well deserved. Your video style is amazing and I fanboy over it every video. Hopefully I can do the same with your photos one day! 🤣
In school all we get is kentmere 400 for 35mm and even though we have enlargers I always scan at home so that I can increase the contrast as it really like makes the photos look good
Dude I have 100ft of this stuff in a bulk loader that’s been sitting in my moms fridge for a few years. 2.5-3 years maybe. If you want it lmk. Just pay for shipping
I like your style. If your negative is too thin or too low contrast to your taste, feel free to extend your development time in 10% steps. You will get higher contrast, but grain size will grow too. The given development times are a starting point only. The 400 looks underdeveloped in comparison to the 100.
Agree, Ilford make some Colour film please :) also Kentmere is a good addition for 120 because instead of all these companies ripping us off with price rises at least Ilford are giving us an affordable option.
Do you have any tips to get good prints from kentmere? I almost exclusively shoot hp5 or trix because I find them very easy to print. The kentmere for me always produces thin negatives. I love the way it scans, but I rarely scan anything anymore except contact sheets. I’d love to switch to it though, because it’s half the cost of tri x.
I’d recommend seeing if you can lay your hands on some Verichrome Pan (ASA 125) but maybe you’re not so much into BW. It was a nice film but I always used it in 120 back in the day (no idea if it was available in sheet sizes). It was available until the early 2000’s.
Ha! I put your channel in Ilford's questionnaire for film photography YT channel :) And last time I've written it to you here, you said to reach you on instagram... and I did... only to feel just like you drinking this MD poison... no response from Kodak/Jason - choose one... Anyway, glad you had your chance to test it :) Fingers crossed for Aerochrome.
You should really try Rollei RPX 400. it’s made for Rollei by Ilford and is based on the original Agfapan APX 400 formula (not the new AgfaPhoto APX 400 which might be Kentmere). It‘s really interesting and unique. Definitely not right for low contrast developers but it can look great with normal to high contrast devs. It’s has a really interesting toe and grain.
One day if you get bored enough maybe try out Rollei retro 400s I've been digging it shooting it at 200 grains nice. I've only shot it on 35mm so I'd be curious to see it on medium format.
New lore: is Baxter part seal?
@@trippwilsonphoto Well I think you're wrong and he's probably a seal
Fun fact: seals are actually basically called "sea dogs" in Hebrew. So you might be onto something here🤔
Yup, a navy-seal.
I believe Baxter was a Navy Seal, thought I saw the Trident under his fur when the wind was blowing…
Love how this is new lore but it's also a question 🤣
"Maybe it's time to do colour, Ilford". Jason saw it coming everyone
One video away for the next sequel to the best series on youtube…
…An Ektachrome Christmas 5
I’m so excited
So hype for it
just do what Hollywood does. take away the sequential title, call it a soft reboot, but actually it's a prequel.
An Ektachrome Christmas A Baxter Story
The past couple years he’s uploaded Ektachrome Christmas in January I think, so it may be some time until the next one unfortunately :(
Yup “An Ektachrome Christmas 5” and I sent 8 rolls to him but I can’t tell you until the you see a new video.
We had a Kentmere when I was a kid. Best refrigerator we ever owned
Past tense suggests a missed opportunity. Think of it...keeping your Kentmere in your Kentmere.
I like your content. Please never disappear. This is something special for filmmakers. I think this is a real treat. A real gem. Not everyone can just go out with their camera, you know?
"We're in the beautiful, scenic, colorful, Marin Headlands, so naturally we're gonna be shooting some black and white."
Classic bro
Really loving the before and after comparison when it comes to editing
If the film was any good, you wouldn’t need the editing.
Always excited when Jason uploads
I guess he’s alright
Jason showing emotion is a rare occurrence. I must say I am emotionally moved by this video.
Kind of love how this predicted Phoenix 200, in a way.
that segue into the squarespace ad was flawless
The fit is outstanding today. Absolutely iced out.
the smooth sponsorship message transition did it for me
I'm glad someone finally admitted that the majority of mono film stocks looks basically identical to each other.
2:57 Print it, frame it and hang it above the Yule Log.
Excellent 'About the Author' portrait too!
One of the best Squarespace segues I seen today
Been shooting Kentmere 400 on 35mm for about a year or two. It’s amazing. Especially at 1600
Oh, so specially gray and blaaa!!! I’ll save my time and money.
Thank you for helping the public make more informed decisions with their black and white film choices Jason, very cool.
ok but that squarespace transition was smooth af
Thank you for being the highlight to my Thursday yet again, Jason
as someone from the north bay who moved states for school, these videos where I immediately recognize every location are so comforting to watch. Thanks for another great video and dedicated chug, keep going. kodak has to see it soon, right?
The long run to the sponsor link was absolutely worth it. Nicely done.
ever try red / yellow filters on this stock to increase the natural contrast? that gradient between light and shadow is what really sets b&w stocks apart.

Finally. Some good Baxter content.
Great video, Mr Days. Just so you know, I emailed all Kodak bosses I could find online and asked about Aerochrome and linked to a time stamp of you drinking Mountain Dew. I'm fighting with you.
As someone new to medium format, it's been really awesome being able to shoot for cheap using kentmere 400 and kodak gold.
Love your sense of humor and Baxter! Great video, thanks!
New grainydays on my birthday? 24 is off to a great start.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! Enjoy it!
Thank you guys!
@@itzyamancam8561 no problem!
Jason always smiles when he looks at Monica :)
Literally just started rewatching grainydays vids, always a good time when jason drops a video
I like Kentmere on 35mm, I used it to photograph donkeys. This should be good on 120. I’ll use it to photograph larger donkeys.
LOL!
Love seeing you making a vid at places I’ve explored as well. Live 25 minutes from this spot.
That was the most amazing Squarespace segue hahaha
When I was a kid we called it Mountain Spew. We still respect you if you stop, Jason. We are here for you.
love the 4:3 format, keep up the great work man!
Patiently waiting for that delicious ektachrome Christmas, but this video will tide me over. Thank god for grainydays
Kentmere is my go-to black and white film stock, so excited to try it in 120
The Mt Kilimanjaro joke had my dying.
Now that was one smooth squarespace segue.
Omg that’s an unbelievably good video idea - get someone to load your cameras with different Ilford films and you shoot them, then try to work out which is which!
Always so glad to watch another grainy days video
Hill 88 near there is cool to explore there. Hike is kind of a pain in the ass but there are times from there you can have fog below and clouds above.
A gift from the gods on this Thursday. Thank you jason
Thanks for accurately pointing out the flatness (and grey mushiness) of Kentmere 400 instead of reciting Ilford's descriptions of the films.
aw my first Contax T2 video way back was filmed in the Marin Headlands. cute.
Would love to see ilford doing color. Up the stakes, that would be amazing
It would be healthy if Kodak had some competition.
Ilford used to make color film.
Outstanding shot of Monica & Baxter at 3:00.
the B/W photo of the curve is great!
THAT AD TRANSITION!
You got a genuine spit take from the line "I like my images just like my coffee. I don't like coffee" 🤣
That sponsor segway was smooth AF
That last portrait of Baxter is legit
Merry Christmas to all. Compliments of the season.
Was anyone else fascinated by the censored Baxter bag dangling around LOL
Kentmere papers also used to be much lower in contrast back in the days when I still printed. It probably still is. On multigrade papers Ilford paper would be fine at Grade 2 whereas the same contrast would require grade 4 on Kentmere. Probably just less silver too.
Thanks for the review. Love the Baxter pic at the end!
Thank you for new vlog:)
I always enjoy your love to photography! I lost mine somewhere.
Love the colors in those videos. Do you mind sharing some secrets on how to get that analogue feel when it's shot on a modern digital cam?

Smoothest transition to sponsor spot ever
Oh snap you’re still drinking it 😂 talk about perseverance 👍

A Christmas Miracle!
new jason content=good day
can you make more? vacations coming and i need to binge on some grainyshades.
That gold chain.... I'll never be as cool as you no matter how hard I try.
All I want for Christmas is for Jason to have his Mountain Dew intervention.
Man those 192k subs are so well deserved. Your video style is amazing and I fanboy over it every video. Hopefully I can do the same with your photos one day! 🤣
How do you do the ending motion effect? 13:10 Or is that a secret?
In school all we get is kentmere 400 for 35mm and even though we have enlargers I always scan at home so that I can increase the contrast as it really like makes the photos look good
Kentmere 400 35 is what used for my film photo class. It’s honestly one of my favorites stocks
Dude I have 100ft of this stuff in a bulk loader that’s been sitting in my moms fridge for a few years. 2.5-3 years maybe. If you want it lmk. Just pay for shipping
I only tried kentmere pan 100 in 35mm once only (it was really contrasty and grainy). Keen to try one in 120 format.. not arrived yet in Australia..
Always a good day when Jason uploads
Whole office floor heard me trying to hold my laughter in after hearing Baxter eating
Should come to visit Placerville one of these days. Plenty of Christmas lights to go around. 😝
Kudos for the sponsor segway!

This aspect ratio gets instant thumbs up.
That lens is sick.
Your opening scene with the mtn dew is me on my last baja blast every year

What a beautiful family 💟
It prints quite well with a 2# / #3 contrast filter split toned.
Some of my favourite photos I've ever taken were on this stock.
@@sodapop9mm562 Contrast filter 4, matte paper is my suggestion.
If you can get the Ilford Hanenmulle' paper then go to town.
Love the shot at 6:22
You're a king.
works fine pushed to 400 as well.
I’d recommend seeing if you can lay your hands on some Verichrome Pan (ASA 125) but maybe you’re not so much into BW. It was a nice film but I always used it in 120 back in the day (no idea if it was available in sheet sizes). It was available until the early 2000’s.

omg babe wake up new grainydays video just dropped
Gotta say... this was a more laied back version of your normal laid back, so.... it was perfect. and, Baxter got more than normal air time. cool
Did you take any shots of Point Bonita Lighthouse? Up there is such a peaceful place, love it!
luckily Kentmere 120 is now available in the UK but I reckon we might need to add a filter to sort out the ever present clouds this time of year.
Ilfords machines can’t really handles the chemicals for color film, so they’d need to do quite a bit of reworking to make that possible.
I can’t find Flamin Hot Mtn Dew anywhere near me, so I’ve been shooting a roll of Aerochrome each day until PepsiCo brings it back.
One day if you get bored enough maybe try out Rollei retro 400s I've been digging it shooting it at 200 grains nice. I've only shot it on 35mm so I'd be curious to see it on medium format.
I hate every photo you take because they are better than every photo that I take.
Love the compositions
