    Too bad this is fake, he says in the real unedited interview that he removed the vocals from his mix because the mic picks the sound from the audience and the drums during live performances, and he says that it bothers him and that he wanted his mix to sound close to studio. Still, no need to fabricate such a fake video when it is self evident that James LaBrie's vocal abilities have dramatically diminished over the years.

      I have an experience in recording live perforamce. I don't think dynamic mics would capture audio from a large radius and is as noisy and unfocused as that of a camera mic which produces the sound that petrucci claims to hear from Labrie's mic. I sense that Petrucci is trying to make an alibi and deep down, is in denial of how bad Labrie is

    • @gianfrixmg
      @gianfrixmg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@imjustsaying4807 I think he uses a Neumann KMS 105 live, which is a condenser mic. You can also hear in the IEM show from Loud Park in 2014 how he is picking up a lot of cymbals when he gets close to Mangini. I think that's why they put the whole drumkit higher in the 2019 tour.

It gets to a point where La Brie's vocals are just unbearable to listen to. Huge shame since he actually has a brilliant voice but can't control himself.

      Don't get me wrong. I think he's an awesome vocalist, but I think he's a terrible fit in the same way that JP or Paul Gilbert would be in Periphery. A band that is designed to have three guitarists playing complimentary riffs. JP loves to take the spotlight and play every solo and share it with JR. Well, to emphasize my point imagine Spencer Sotelo singing pull me under and ask yourself if it really has the same feel as Labrie despite all the slanderous performances that have been played on youtube. James tends to be better live in my experience then a bunch of YT videos late in their tours when he is clearly suffering from vocal fatigue.

    • @KnockOutUrMind
      @KnockOutUrMind 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@imjustsaying4807 What you say is true. What is shown in this video is not. Nothing to discuss about it.
      And to answer you, when "Once in a Livetime" came out people had to complain about LaBrie's exhibition cause they did never forget his voice style which turned out into something different after the Awake tour. Since then every recorded Live performance of DT is modified in a way or another. Now people complain about the fake vocals with no clue of the 20 years spent overdubbing the vocals. They should now release a "raw and pure" version of their live performances just for you, but then you would complain about the terrible voice LaBrie has so... there just is no cure for you.
      By the way i suggest not to take references from videos of DT's live and go listen to them in the actual tour. I assure you there is no comparison. Records obviously cut most of the energy and the touch they actually show on the stage.

    • @imjustsaying4807
      @imjustsaying4807 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KnockOutUrMind actually there is a cure for this problem....ummm...you know? Like, KICK THE PIRATE OUT OF THE BAND?
      But I guess you are right, we really won't get the cure because good ol' Squeekybeard's other crewmates are just a bunch of sentimental fools to make him walk the plank. Now who on earth with integrity cares if overdubbing has been going on for 20 years? Fakery is still fakery. Heck, bride kidnapping has been a practice in Kazakhstan for God knows how long. Now, does the longevity of such messed-up deed make it morally correct? And I'm sorry but the "Go to live shows because cellphone videos misrepresent James" is just pathetic. It's funny you pull that card to justify older Labrie's blunder when nobody even complained that old recordings which were captured using low-ass quality camcorders from the 90's misrepresented the younger Labrie back when he was a better singer. I'm pretty sure that Labrie is grateful for these dogshit quality clips of his younger self because it gives people (especially those who barf at how horrid he is today) a reason to become a fan of his at least until half of them get a reality check that he is far from the performer we all knew and loved. Come on man! I don't see that excuse anywhere except the DT fanbase

    • @KnockOutUrMind
      @KnockOutUrMind 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@imjustsaying4807 I don't know how confident you are about being a musician, but changing any component is like a really really big deal. Not just about a personality and ability reason, but especially from a creativity POV, is something that actually would definitely disband DT. So it's not just a sentimental matter, especially if we consider how sentimental should have been kicking (or allowing to auto-kick himself) Portnoy. And i really challange you to go listen to some DT tribute bands. Most of those guys are really great musicians, but still you can say you can't change LaBrie for anyone else, even now that he sucks af. You can take a try with Portnoy's The Shattered Fortress tour also. The singer is really good, but you have to add a "but" after this sentence. You build a very strong empathy with the singer as it's the human part of the music, in a level that you can't imagine it with different voice. And if you can, since you can, you can't call them Dream Theater anymore, back to the start.
      20 years of overdubbing is to justify a lack of ability, without considering his throat desease. Bride kidnapping is to justify... nothing. I'm not saying we have to enjoy him because of his own self-careless. I'm saying we have to consider his story to understand why he is like what he is, as understanding is the first step to move on, for god sake. Because overdubbing is a consequence of years of lame complaints of people pretending you always have to be perfect. But playing live is literally a way to expose your strenghts and weaknesses. No band has a perfect live performance, so if you record it you have to act on what you can act on to make it perfect, making it a live exibition anymore. Like i don't understand this attitude in which you can't, or you don't want to, face the fact that he sucks and move on. We're stucked here since like atleast 12 years. Isn't it boring? Same as not going over Portnoy's desertion. Most of the time, when i ask about the last album, all the answers touch LaBrie's voice to justify how much they didn't enjoy the songs. It's really sad, seems people can't find something they like, just to live expressing how much they didn't like. Even Petrucci changed a lot of his playing style, from picking to music tastes, and nobody has something to say about it. As you pretend freedom to express what you think, bring in your expressions freedom of being what the matter of your expression want to be, or want to choose, or want to play and compose and think, so that you can express what you think. I heard LaBrie's Cameo vids for people and were terrible, i know myself how bad he is. Just tell me something i don't know, let's go over it. Saying 'James sucks' kills the debate at its birth, just like 'I want Portnoy back' or 'Better with Moore'. Something like where you share with me your honest opinion about why the other members prefer to keep playing with him instead of finding a new member. I bet they would do that if it was that simple, isn't it?
      I didn't say you have to go live show to appreciate LaBrie. I said you can't build an opinion based on live show's youtube videos. I went to the DoT tour show, reason why i tell you you have to check what they still have to say. I repeat myself, i'm not saying LaBrie is better live. It's just a totally different experience than listening to recorded album, and even more listening to live performances on yt. Petrucci messed some solos, the bass volume was (as always here in Italy) very low, electricity went down at half live, but still i'm not forcing myself hating them because of that, neither i'm forcing myself loving them because of everything else happened there. I enjoyed the show, as we all should, so that we can properly discuss. I can say you have not to trust in people saying LaBrie is getting better, it's totally false. They're just getting used to his voice, under the human habitual response, and whenever he kicks a good note they get surprised. Also i can say you have not to trust in people saying he sucks bicycle wheels, because they get used to the fact he sucks and keep basing their opinion on that. Go listen to them as if it's the first time you hear them and tell me what you think. Really, check what happens to his voice live with the crew behind him playing. I'm very very curious about that, and it's the only way you can understand what you really think about it.
      You obviously hear older performances with different ears, just because of the big time divary. But still, as you said, no one complained about 90's performances, even if they were modified once recorded and launched on a CD/DVD album or even if they were old 90's handmade cameras recorded, with all the band's smears and blunbers. Still in the late 90's he sucked, and still no one complained about it. So why complaining now that he keeps sucking? Actually is the most coherent member of the band lmao. Isn't it possible that we're all getting used to some type of musical product that deny any other possibility than perfection? Alright i'm offtopicing. Anyway i don't see those accuses anywhere except the DT fanbase, reason why there is this moot interchange everywhere in here.

      @@KnockOutUrMind Alright, it seems that your first reply to me a year ago made me think you're one of Labrie's blind-ass supporters, I'm gonna hold from being hostile now that you seem to be more of a reasonable fan who's in the neutral ground.
      Yeah, I do understand the "changing one component" thing. In fact, I also have bands whom I think would cause a great rift in their fanbase if they actually change 1 important member. How on earth is Linkin Park gonna continue without Chester Bennignton? I also can't imagine Trivium to be Trivium anymore if Matt Heafy leaves. However, that isn't the case for me with James Labrie. There are big factors to that, the 1st one (and I think the biggest one) is due to the fact that DT is no Linkin Park. When talking about a band like DT, what comes to mind is long-duration songs and super virtuosic displays of musicianship rather than soaring vocals. The 2nd being that while Labrie did become a signature for Dream Theater, he became one for rather ugly reasons. There's no denying that he has one of the most unique voices in prog or music as a whole. This uniqueness of his however is more about having a vocal tone that didn't really age well and tons of lackluster performances giving us the impression that he isn't on par with the other crew's virtuosity. As Gordon Ramsay would put it, "Yeah, it's unique! Uniquely shit!" At least the other 2 bands' singers I mentioned don't give their own groups a bad name
