    Born & raised in Fort Lauderdale and have seen several tornadoes and this was/is the very best video I've seen of one in this area! Very well done!

    Impressive. Usually these are typical waterspouts, but this one is genuinely tornadic. The individual subvortices can even be seen if you look closely.

    An absolutely excellent job with the video NFD... A whole bunch of the so-called pro storm chasers from tornado alley need to watch this vid and learn something from it... Show the storm and shut your mouths....
    The storm is all that matters & Nobody wants to hear anything that any of you have to say.... Once again, excellent job NFD

    This had impressive doppler velocities on the Miami NWS radar in a tight couplet. It looks like a multi vortex tornado over water given the numerous smaller vortices and a broad areas of strong rotation but no defined cone funnel. The speed of the wind and the amount of churning of the ocean as well as the loud noise suggests some pretty strong winds. My guess is that it could have been pretty damaging had it been over land. Not very often are multi vortex water spouts captured on video, especially not so close up with such good quality!

      I wasn't sure how rare of an event this was. I like to watch storms roll in and observe weather changes. It was definitely a sight to see. Thanks for the info!

      Thanks! I was at the right place at the right time. Just could tell something was going on behind me but couldn't see it until it came in front of the hotel. Funny thing is, my now wife was passed out on the bed and had no idea what was happening!

    Outstanding work NFD. It is definitely a tornado, not a waterspout. The rotating mesocyclone is the indication.

      +Art Jackson Then, shouldn't it on land in order to be called a tornado? I mean, this is over the ocean. From other footage that I've seen that it never reached land

    • @ka5dwi
      @ka5dwi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually waterspouts are tornados. They are weaker and more narrow. Rarely do they cause damage. This one has a broad rotation and shows how the air circulates. Overland tonadoes are harder to observe due to dirt, debris and landscape.

      +Keith Grillman It actually started on land just off camera to the south. I couldn't see that far south from my balcony. You'll see in the other videos where it damaged Lanakila Iki Canoe Club.

    This is not a true fair-weather waterspout, by a supercell thunderstorm. Why the whole cloud was rotating.

    Also, you can change the name if you want. That's a tornado, per the NWS

    • @NoFlyDrone
      @NoFlyDrone  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I was watching the weather move through and happened to watch this develop. Crazy that it is actually classified as a tornado!

    • @TheAlVision
      @TheAlVision 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +No Fly Drone Technically, it's because it was on the beach itself at one point before your video starts that it gets the tornado designation (if it had only been on water, it'd be a waterspout). But that motion and the little mini-vortexes that rotate around it are unmistakable.

    • @NoFlyDrone
      @NoFlyDrone  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheAlVision ok thanks for clarifying. It was awesome to see.

    • @ryanjones1231

      +TheAlVision Once it moved over water though, it would be considered a water spout. Water spouts can also be strong if they are formed by the same dynamic shear and updraft development as a tornado. Such are referred to as tornadic water spouts. In the Tampa Bay area in the 70's a larger wedge water spout moved on shore and did F4 rated tornado damage, where homes and businesses were leveled, and there were a number of injuries and deaths, so water spouts can be destructive. There have been a number of strong and destructive tornadoes that started as strong water spouts along the gulf coast. Recently an EF2 rated tornado injured people in January and destroyed homes as it moved as a waterspout over water to land as a tornado in Sarasota FL. A recent strong water spout in February moved onshore and produced EF3 tornado damage over land in Pensacola FL, some of the damage was very severe and their were injuries.

    • @ryanjones1231
      @ryanjones1231 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +TheAlVision Also, what people get confused by, is that they hear about more docile water spouts, often called fair weather water spouts, which form frequently over warm tropical waters(or even over cooler waters if there is enough instability). They occur due to strong updrafts that can rotate due to weak low level shear, but the amount of available shear and helicity is simply too weak to support stronger wind speeds. Usually such water spouts still have 50-80 mph winds, though, and can still down trees, power lines, and overturn cars. So they still shouldn't be driven into by car or boat, lol. They are just relatively weak compared to more dynamically driven tornadic water spouts. Basically the reason fair water water spouts don't usually form over land is that the friction of land counteracts the weak shear. Though sometimes similar events due happen over land as well, but take a bit more spin. They are usually called land spouts or gustnadoes, and usually get rated EF0
