I've said it before, and I'll say it again - a weather video shot with a STABLE, STATIONARY camera (like this one) is a thing of rare beauty.
Exactly! The quality and setup for this video is flawless especially for 2010.
As opposed to the one where Fred is in his backyard videoing a twister with his Motorola Razor and with Mildred shouting at him to get in the basement.
@@rvarnum Lmaooo I definitely appreciated the silence. I understand that people get very excited and can't really control their loud babbling, though. But I do appreciate the quiet ones and the ones where they edit the audio.
@@rvarnum and, of course, I appreciate the use of high quality equipment INCLUDING a tripod 😆
As the person who shot this weather video, I agree wholeheartedly.

I think why this video got recommended to me was because I watched Horror Stories' latest video on the deadliest tornado.

To be fair, this hardly counts as a "tornado". Just got a little windy for a minute or two. Nothing really to be concerned about.
Not even a tornado, this is a Downburst
That's because nothing was happening. That was a baby storm. I've flown kites in wind higher than that.

Ok since everyone is now seeing this. I am a meteorologist.
1.) Windows shattered to either pressure drop for tornado or strong winds
2.) Seeing a funnel from close range in a very dense suburban area is hard, as it is obstructed and reshaped by buildings
3.) Most tornado warnings are from radar, so there may have been spinning in the atmosphere hinted at by a vorticity couplet, but no actual tornado
4.) I believe there wasn’t, look how little the truck moved. Likely a downburst, but still very cool!
I don't believe it was a tornado either.
#4 should have been #1. Thx though.
I agree. Just a downburst. Great video though.
Bruh y’all having second guesses if this a tornado or not. We never have tornados in New York, at least not that I know of. Also, yes to some of you it might look like a tornado because it’s spinning or whatever, but it’s just the rain with a lot of wind, we don’t really see it as a big problem because we know it’s gonna go in like 5 minutes and then it’s gonna be back to normal

Major city life. Red lights usually just indicate a intersection. In Tulsa people have to slow down at Green lights due to others running the reds, it's worse where the cameras are in place.
That's the city for you
This is by far the best tornado footage I've seen. The ground level rotation is so incredibly visible! Fantastic video... Thanks for sharing this!
Creepy how it hits out of nowhere! Makes me wonder if there was even a chance to warn anyone b/c of the amount of people and traffic that were seemingly not in any more of a hurry than normal. That seemed to change rather quickly with the first good lightning strike/thunder clap, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh just a bit knowing I would most likely have the same reaction! Hearing the glass break and seeing the debris was amazing for the location; it seemed to vanish as fast as it started too.

The irony is that I lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area for a few years and even though it's in the dead center of the Tornado Alley, have never seen a tornado before. Instead, I happened to live in Queens, NYC when this twister came along in 9/16/10. I still kind of remember this like yesterday!
+Wheatley GLADOS Sorry, but Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri have your highest number of Tornados. They are more of what I would call Tornado Alley
+CarlsCustomCreations Statistically there are more tornadoes in Texas than other states simply because of its vast size, and it falls in the southern central areas of the Tornado Alley. However, rarely do tornadoes hit major cities or towns because most of Texas is pretty rural and sparse in population density. We did have plenty of supercell thunderstorms that produced hail and strong winds and tornado watch was in progress, but no tornado touched down. The last tornado we received in FT Worth was in March 2000, but that was before I was even there lol
I love in Queens, NY too
still haven't seen one then
They don't hit in Dallas county.... Try Collins Denton Johnson or tarrant
New Yorkers were just so excited the traffic was lightening up.
1:24 the Tornado was handled by Ms Frizzle and her magic school bus

Microburst.
A day I won’t forget. I was in nearby Greenwood cemetery putting flowers down at the family grave site when this storm came out of no where. Made it back to the car but I honestly thought I wouldn’t ever make it out of the cemetery alive; no exaggeration but for about 3 minutes it seemed as though the world was coming to an end ... even more scary than this video when you’re alone in a cemetery.
This must've been an EF0 tornado.
Power company in that town has their shit together!
The power lines in NYC are underground. It is rare for us to have power outages during storms for that reason.
The person on the bike made me think “there’s Dorothy.” 😅
So when does the tornado show up? Saw some gusty winds. 🤔
That was the tornado. You don't need a funnel cloud to be a tornado.
@@briansivley2001 True, a fully condensated funnel isn't necessary, but that's RFD.
You must be from Brooklyn.

For anyone who is dubious: this was a confirmed EF0 contained within a microburst (which is why most of the video just looks like a microburst). The vertical central rotation is visible beginning around 1:30. If you look at the crosswalk light, you should be able to see the tornado :)

For anyone who says that this wasn't a tornado, here is the definition: A rotating column of air ranging in width from a few yards to more than a mile and whirling at destructively high speeds, usually accompanied by a funnel-shaped downward extension of a cumulonimbus cloud. This was a rotating column of air containing several vortexes whirling at destructively high speeds.

I come back to this video sometimes. Still love it
I don’t see how people in the comments say “that’s not a tornado!”.
It was definitely a swirl of wind! And created damage! Tornadoes can briefly spin-up on storm fronts.
That's not a technical tornado though. A tornado is formed through a supercell. A mezocyclone etc
Waterspouts, dirtdevils and swirls of wind technically aren't cyclones lol
Not completely accurate. Tornadoes can briefly spin-up on storm fronts!
Tornadoes are not completely exclusive to Super-cells!
Outer bands of a hurricane can have tornadoes. Those are not super-cells or mesocyclones.
Nature can be beautiful and frightening at the same time. Love it.

@@erasethepavement if you dont live where these happen regularly, please dont question like you know what you are talking about. This is about as much a "ny tornado" as a "tx blizzard"...
That would be kinda scary if there was a blizzard in Texas. I think I once saw a show (a fictional one) where there was a blizzard in Texas in the middle of summer. If that happened, clearly we are screwed.
The TX Panhandle around Amarillo has a blizzard warning or two every winter. Even as far south as San Antonio they once got a foot of snow overnight.,
Scott Matthews, it's incredibly irritating when people only think of the Houston heat when it comes to Texas. Texas is huge and the climate is much more different in the panhandle.
That dummy in the clothing store window across the street serves a good lesson as to why you shouldn't stand next to windows during a tornado. Imagine if that had been a person - yyeeouch!
tarkushead: yep and she was also lighter than a person which makes a difference. But still yes, good point. Glass can cut you up pretty good when under influence of wind.
Reading these comments and I’m sure these people had no idea but look how quickly life goes back to normal afterwards.
I remember this day so well. I was on the B52 bus in Brooklyn on my way home from work when it hit. I knew something was unusual about the whether when I walk out of the building of my place of employment. It was muggy, cloudy & the sky had a weird light green tint. While on the bus, it got very dark outside and then it hit. You can hear branches hitting the bus as they fell off the trees, the bus driver had to slow down the speed of the bus. It came and went so quickly and then the sun came out. The damage was crazy! Huge trees were all over the road on Gates Ave in Bedstuy, BK. The bus driver had to reroute the bus. It was scary but amazing at the same time.
