Two many skyrises, too many people, too many paved streets, and too much concrete. There is no where for the water to drain. There have been houses and buildings built where there was open marshy land for the water to drain. The greedy land developers filled in all the marshes and built on top of them. Now everyone suffers. Florida is too over populated for the fragile state it is. Nature is slowly reclaiming the beautiful land I knew growing up in the 1950s and 1960s. I lived there from 1955 to 2005, exactly 50 years. I left when I saw how the greedy Politicians and Land Developers were killing beautiful South Florida.

Well said. And the water table is rising, along with the oceans. No good options from here.

Born in Broward General Hospital 1958 . Left in 82 with tears in my eyes as the Yankee slickers slinging land and Condos like dope. When I heard they were building west of US 27 buried Andy Town under an interstate. Built Weston in the Fing Glades. I thought my sister was delusional, I grew up near what is now Markum Park. And in 20 years of North easterners bring their attitudes and garbage. The place turned into a psych ward

Very well said. Unfortunately we’ve been thinking about leaving our beautiful Florida too. If you don’t mind me asking - what state did you move to? We love Florida so much and don’t wanna leave but the way these politicians make it impossible for us regular folks to live and prosper here - it’s so sad💔

@@colerainfan1143 I did not mention the temperature or rising of the ocean and the water table because I think that is a given. When I was a child, people used well water to irrigate their lawns. In 2000 I noticed that the well water had a funny order and called an inspector to see what was causing it. He told me that my well along with others had been contaminated with chemicals from the ground water, so I stopped using it and depended on the rain. I always wondered if it had anything to do with the water, chemicals, and fertilizers that they were using to irrigate and beautify gulf courses. I also thought it might have been because of all the excessive number of canals and manmade lakes the land developers created with the new neighborhoods they built. No matter the reason, it has all been done by human greed along with industrialization of the entire planet. It breaks my heart that my precious Florida is gone.

Climate crisis resilience needs to include elevated evacuation routes (& include occasional islands for gas stations, ideally with helipads for emergency medical evacs)!
    Re Flood severity "deniers":
The depth varies with location ... PLUS there's more to come: more rains, saturated root balls of trees that will fall, black mold in drywall, rising insurance rates, displaced wildlife (incl reptiles in flood water), health consequences for people that 1st responders can't help in time &/or whose necessary medical devices require electricity to run, Etc., Etc..
