    Lyrics:
Native these words seem to me
    All speech directed to me
    I've heard them once before
    I know that feeling
    Stranger emotions in mind
    Changing the contours I find
    I've seen them once before
    Someone cries to me
The look and the sound of the voice
    They try, they try
The shape and the power of the voice
    In strong low tones
    Forceful and twisting again
    Wasting the perfect remains
    I've felt it once before
    Slipping over me
The look and the sound of the voice
    They try, they try
The shape and the power of the voice
    In strong low tones
    Sweetly the voices decay
Draw on the lines that they say
    I'd lost it once before
    Now it cries to me
The look and the sound of the voice
    They try, they try
The shape and the power of the voice
    In strong low tones
The look and the sound of the voice
    They try
The shape and the power of the voice
    In strong low tones
The shape and the power of the voice

During 1980 and 1981 and in to 1982, there was an underground pulse in the country if you were of the right age to feel it. It was like something primevil waking up and stirring people. An undercurrent of Nuclear war, spies, movie stars and glamour. The music that created was cinematic and grand and it grabbed you by the head and the heart. What an incredibly epic time to be alive it was. I would go back in a heart beat.

    • @louise_rose
      @louise_rose หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, I remember hearing this for the first time around '82 and it sounds absolutely HUGE in that stereo soundscape - the synths, bass and drums coming like majestic waves and shifting in tone, a bit like the way an old-style train would change its sound when passing, due to the Doppler effect. 1:22-1:37 is one of the most striking sections when it comes to this (the inspiration from Bowie's Berlin albums is clear enough but it still sounds amazing)

Being held captive in an FM radio station for many of my early years, I was extremely grateful to have been exposed to the Ultravox mind contagion at a key developmental stage. Thankfully, this developed into a profound case of 80sitis, in turn progressing to that most severe of conditions: becoming a purveyor of fine music at a record bar as the 80s turned into the 90s. 🤣 A great time to live. I was 13 and i hardly had enough money to buy a sandwitch, let alone a Record. 😆
I was so hooked on the Song,i can clearly remember me playing it time n time again.I can also remember playing the B side,Paths and Angels which i also found great.

Agree but this direction of the band started out with the last album named System of Romance which was recorded with their previous vocalist. I too used to think that U.vox was equated to Midge Ure but after hearing that album I changed my mind a bit.

    • @XanAxDdu
      @XanAxDdu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

it was different ages, second half of the 70th and 1st half of 80th... they had a well shaped project of 3 albums with john foxx, produced by brian eno at their beginning then changing their path when entering midge ure. you can understand we have sort of 2 different bands

@@user-yc5um2pl5v for sure we have a band into crossing the years and producing sort of avantgarde pop rock made by punk electronic something coming as from krautrock then hard rock and celtic folk beat so for sure they always tried to maintain an identity while making innovation for me the best band of that age remains the police the most creative and for me also till today so out of range. other strong bands from late 70 and early 80 have been japan and david sylvian, talk talk, tears for fears and depeche mode. though also simple minds and u2 .... everything but the girl and level 42 were also very performative
