I've recently been fighting for my life with severe cancer..I've found this old ultravox song and cried with joy that this is actually what life is about. meeting your soul mate without a care in the world.. x
@@stardroplet9499 Yes, but Vienna sold more copies than Joe Dolce. I remember listening to the year's Top 40 on the radio and Vienna was a few places above that awful one.
This song is so sad, and yet so beautiful. Thank you, Ultravox, for crafting a song so many years ago that still touches one’s soul. Really feeling this one right now 😢.
Ultravox with Midge Ure: simply the best the 80's have to offer. I bought Lament in 84 and I litterally cracked for the band. This passion has lasted years and years and years and is still there today. You never get tired of Ultravox perfect music. Especially the classic 4.
This song always tears me up. This whole album carried me through a very dark time. Tomorrow I am seeing Midge perform again (3rd time). His voice is still haunting, and if he's going to be anywhere near you, go.
I'm ok .got the all clear ..last week .. now when I listen to this I just cry. I was recently at south stack in west Anglesey with my wife . that place reminds me so much of this videos scenery..
I bought the single because I liked the cover art even though I'd never heard the song. 36 years on, it's still my favourite song (and my wife's), Ultravox are still my favourite band and I can't tell you how many holidays we've spent on the Isle of Skye, where this video was shot!
Ah, but who hasn't felt the pain, anguish, grief - lament of a lost love? The mournful wail of the heart, screaming from the depths of the soul, heavy with regret. Or is it the twisting torment of an opportunity missed, a chance not taken, now wondering what might have, what could have been? Where might my life could be if only I had........... ? I've lived my life to earn as few of those sentiments as possible, but I love this song anyway; because, as I said, we all can recognize the feeling this song is about.
And just as my eyes start seeing After all the pain The twist in my life starts healing Just to twist again In stillness, in sorrow Returns that softly sighing lament And just as the smile's returning After all the pain The fire inside stops burning Just to burn again In moments of madness Returns that softly sighing lament
If you are a fan of this great piece of music, and a headphone user, listen to the orchestrated version !!!! It will blow your senses apart !! Then listen to the extended version of the Gift track It will blow your mind.....cheers Spider.
Un chef d'oeuvre musical de 1984. J' aime aussi Vienna, Dancing with tears in my Eyes, Love's great adventure. Que des petites pépites des années 80. Ultravox est un groupe exceptionnel.
I dont think we are bias when we say that growing up in the 80s to all this wonderful music ,was absolutely priceless. I think it was an era where people were kinda nicer to each other and everyone was in the same boat as yeah we had fuck all money but music and our Walkman gave us the beautiful escapes we needed. Band Aid and the performances of Queen , one of the best live artists of all time. So Midge Ure and all I salute you , thank you for the magic. J
I was leaving our friends house where our family stayed for a few days. they had horses & I rode while there. when we were leaving my brother was playing this album ,this song was on as we drove away. I sobbed so bad. still love the emotional side of this song
Me too. I was 17 in 1984 god that feels like a lifetime now. Always loved midge ure, but its only since i hit my 50s that ive REALLY appreciated ultravox music.
One of the best bands to come out of the 80s there videos were brilliant and some were funny 😂 I was a big fan of Ultravox from when i heard Vienna and i liked everything they released after that, I got to see Ultravox when they reformed in 2009 and they played Belfast and i can say it was worth the wait, they were brilliant if you like there sort of music?
@@MournfulMystic that was when they had John Foxx instead of Midge Ure, they still did some great ones (My favourite of Old Ultravox are "Slow Motion" and "Dislocation").
This and One Small Day must stand as the two most iconic Ultravox tracks - not as popular as Vienna, obviously - but I believe they are so much better. Add in that they filmed in two of the most atmospheric places in Scotland, Elgol on the Isle of Skye, and Callanish on Lewis and it just gets better. Thanks, Ultravox.
How to listen even sing this masterpiece without tears coming down. ...?... i lived that scene on my own..life.. and still missing unforgettable times........!
(Sigh) Ultravox made some really wonderful albums. I miss their music from the 80s so much. But luckily I have all their cds and there's TH-cam. When I still lived in Europe , I travelled to Scotland to meet my English friends back in the early 90s. What a beautiful country that was! Many good memories! They had the same red ford Scorpio. I am so happy to be born in the 70's!
This song reaches the right places of mine the heart body and soul it has been an absolute pleasure growing up with all the quality song that ultravox brought out great being a part of it all great looking back to my younger days great memories Colin Corcoran
Pure atmosphere brought by mainly the PPG wave synth....a nice tribute to Chris Cross who passed away recently...keep dancing amongst the Celtic stars Chris...!
That is Annabel Giles, the then wife of Mide Ure, at the end of the video -cuddling on the bench (4:16). After their divorce she never had a nice word to say about him! The song brings back memories of a simpler time for me and a great time when I was just a young man.
So sad for the passing of Chris Cross, and also because Annabel Giles left us some months ago... I saw this video, and also "Loves Great Adventure" (where Annabel appeared again), in french tv show "Platine 45", being just a little kid. And I loved both videos. Lament was very emotional and moving, with all that fog and the little stories of the four relationships... And the clip was directed by Chris and Midge. This two did excellent videos, which now are beautiful memories of my early childhood. I will always remember those so pure sensations...
And so endeth a memorable weekend on SummerIsle ;-) What a timeless classic this is and the video reminds me of what it was really like to be a teenager in the 80's. There was this thing we used to have called 'freedom', nowadays its a bit difficult to explain what that means.
Bryn di, Wales, apologies if I have the spelling wrong, a week holiday in 1984,the best of people on a youth training project and proof that it's when you decide to give up your real friends appear, God bless you for posting this gramaphone, your a saint.
You cannot beat the 70s and 80s the music was amazing, I'm glad i remember all of it 2 decades that stand the test of time , never get that sort of musical styles again worse luck
Me too. A lot to be grateful for being a teenager in the Eighties. My husband is two years younger than me but the age difference now matters a joy but he remembers all the 80s things slightly differently. I feel like a veritable cradle robber. Fifteen years old, frequenting the pub. No one batted an eyelid, even the police. Happy days c
I love this tune it always brings a tear to my eye when I hear it as it takes me back to being 11 years old I had just started at high school and it reminds me of my big brother garry died in July 2011 through severe depression/anxiety/stress r.i.p bro i always think about you!!!💔
Although not an enormous hit single, this of course was the title track too from their 1984 album Lament as well. Still sounds great now then too in my view for sure-thank you!
RIP Chris. You will be missed.
😢😢😢😢
Chris Cross, how and when did he die?
one of the best things about 50 years old, is the fact that i lived my teenage years in the 80s that is priceless and i am grateful!!!
I'm 53 and some of the BEST music came out of the 80's
I'm 56 And I agree 100% Music had meaning and emotion back then.
Me too!!!!
Oh yes!

It's a very healing tune. Glad it brought you some peace my friend x
Hope you find strength from these great old songs.
God bless you brother, i was there.
I know you'll be ok. Dont doubt God !
Godspeed your recovery Phil - peace and love my friend
Godspeed Phil. Praying for a miracle and recovery.
The MOST underrated band of the 80's, still can't believe Vienna didn't get no1......
Oh shaddup you face
When I looked that up and saw which one was number 1 I felt trolled because the number 1 was a song I found by accident as funny (Shaddup your face) 😆
Shadup your face

Still the greatest Ultravox song!!! I discovered this album in 84 and it remains the best and timeless.
All in One Day is their greatest song.
one of my favourite all time albums
Almost criminal this only has 214k views...one of Vox's finest.
This song is so sad, and yet so beautiful. Thank you, Ultravox, for crafting a song so many years ago that still touches one’s soul. Really feeling this one right now 😢.
0:59 the way he sings “softly sighing lament” is just beautiful 🎶✨

I ham seeing him in Bath where he lives in 11 days on the 1980 tour
Saw him; I’m happy
Saw him last week in Manchester. Amazing and so talented!❤
Moody melodic gem from the synth masters. Despite their success, I still feel ultravox are very underappreciated!
One of those songs that always brings tears to my eyes. It’s so beautiful.
wow beautiful...Nothing can beat the 80s.... the golden era of great music...
This song is so beautiful...and with this country view and Midge Ures voice it is the perfect harmony.....
Filmed in the Isle of Skye. The most beautiful location in UK
And some of the most beautiful native women aswell I might add, if this video is anything to go by 👌
Anybody here to remember Chris Cross? RIP
Me
He tapped off with a stunner in this video early on
what did he die of AIDS?
Me too
I discovered ultravox in 1982 when I was 12: sooooooooo long ago, but their music is timeless
almost the same, it was 1981 and I was 12 and heard Vienna on the radio. That startd a love affair with a great band :-)
Algo parecido, yo tenía 9 años. Si música aún perdura en mí
i discovered them in 1980 with they're megahit Vienna...#1 all over the charts..i was 13 back then.. omg.. time goes fast.. :)
