Forgot to mention in the video, but for some reason Netflix, which has the movie, only has the first season of the Rise series. Weird. The entire series is on Paramount+ or you can buy the episodes on iTunes or Amazon Prime.

The show always looked cool but as a person who loves good fights in anime but never watched TMNT. Like they legit pay great tributes to the best animated fights in anime, perfect example of 'western sakuga production'.
It's even more ironic considering that a lot of Rise fans were introduced to TMNT through this specific version. They liked it because of the animation, humor, and how the characters were written, but not because it was a TMNT show. The people that needed to come around to it were the "og fans" (Cowaboomers as fans have decided to call them) that couldn't and tbh still can't fathom the idea of any changes coming to TMNT and immediately wrote the entire show off. It's really sad but really telling
As a OG fan speaking only for myself. Rise just ain't it chief. I don't like the look of the turtles. It's not about them looking different from previous versions that's the problem. I just don't like the look at all.

I've only seen about half of season 1 and this movie.
Overall from want I've seen the overall story isn't anywhere near as good as the 2012 & 2006 shows, All the turtles & Splitter act like different versions of Micheal Angelo what happened to their distinct personalities, The push for nonstop comedy makes it too much like every other show out there.
The show does have good action scenes but that's not enough to make up for all of the other Short comings.
The best thing about Rise Leonardo and Rapheal is the reason why they became leaders. Neither became the leader because they WANTED to, but because they HAD to. Raph was the oldest he had to so he was always worried for his brothers, Leo had to become a leader because Splinter said so, but not until things got serious did he truly become a leader to his brothers.
Raph even asked Leo in a cut scene "did you think I wanted to be leader. I had to watch over my little brothers"
IKR? Probably my favorite adaptation of Leo next to the 2012 version.

Even as a kid growing up in the 90s, you had to accept three different versions of the TMNT storyline...and we did...because there was no internet.
Now I wonder how the series would’ve fared in the 90s, since the cesspool of humanity that is the internet didn’t exist.

Yeah, but in those storylines, the characters remained somewhat recognizable. The Rise version did a lots of things very well (like the animation, and the designs), but they totally rewrote Leo's and Raph's personality.
If you would have changed Leo's mask to yellow, and called him Tom, in the first episode, no one would have been able to figure out it was supposed to be Leo. And how did Raph, the strongest, most self reliant, and independent of the four ended up as a mother hen who can't remain alone for a few seconds (Savage Raph), is beyond me.
This got me freaked out seeing Krang not needing his robot suit for half of the movie. To then suddenly go all out and then be stopped by being sent away to his dimension. Kinda shows how powerful he is.

3:22 Creators basically confirmed this in a recent interview.
They also confirmed the original future opening was 10 minutes long but got cut because Nick refused to give Rise even one more minute for the movie.
I hope the show comes back or they do more movies!

And likely because they wanted the movie to be more welcoming towards casual viewers. The opening had characters exclusive to the show like Draxum, Hypno-Potamus, and Warren Stone, as well as others with established history like an older Baxter Stockboy.
I was impressed with how much heart was put into this. A fantastic finale that will make anyone watch the entire series again.

I decided to check out RotTMNT: The Movie. I can't believe I almost cried, it was so heartfelt.
I thoroughly enjoyed Rise Of The TMNT along with the movie. And that is why I highly encourage people to give shows like Rise a chance. I can understand that it's not like the original or at the very least a recognizable version like 2003 or 2012. But if I've learned anything by giving new shows a chance to tell their own story, you will be pleasantly surprised. Especially when the story takes a more serious turn later down the line
As someone who's been a Rise fan since the beginning and who's still seeing hate for the series years after it first aired and then ended far too soon, I'm so glad the movie just proved to me why this iteration is easily my favorite and why it deserves so much more love. Both the show and movie are some of the best looking western cartoons of the last decade, and more than anything, the fact that Rise wasn't afraid to add changes that felt like breaths of fresh air in a franchise that's been more or less the same for 35+ years. It's funny, heartfelt and the most like a family they've ever been imo, plus Rise had the genius idea to make the turtles different species for once. I really wish people were more open to the series prior to the movie, but if the movie is what it takes for some to finally stop treating Rise like the worst thing that's happened to TMNT (which is just objectively not true given it's history), I'll take it as a win.
(Also as a black TMNT fan, Rise April is the first time I've ever felt represented in this franchise and is the best version of the character, it's not even a contest)

So freaking true on everything you said. Especially the part about being a Rise fan since the start of show and still seeing all of the awful hate Rise gets from bitter old-school TMNT purists that won't stop bitching about it and acting like every stereotypical old person that shits on anything new and different from what they grew up with as kids, but also as a black woman who is a fan in terms of Rise feeling more represented in terms of Rise April who is my number one favorite iteration of April. But also Rise feeling more Black then any other TMNT series.

Stellar Review!! This movie Made me REALLY Want a Turtles Forever 2 with the 1987, 2003, 2012, and Rise Cast all interacting and where The Rise Krang just punk all the other villains into working for them but the Shredders would be all sneaky about betrayal but also just seeing the Other Leornardos react to Rise Leo being soo goofy lol. I loved this film tremendously and gotta give nothin but love to the team who worked on it

It’s literally called “Rise” of the Turtles, so it’s funny that it’s just now dawning on me that the series & the movie together is the origin story of TMNT, ending with Leo rightfully becoming leader.
I always interpreted the title “Rise” _(I’m talking about the series finale episode here)_ almost feeling like Splinter commanding Leo to “rise” as the new leader, whereas this is definitely his true rise. - I’m guessing “Rise” is a command for all of them, since they are true heroes at that point, at least to a certain extent _([cough] Leo’s arc [cough])._
I’m a bit on the fence about a movie tetralogy. No doubt it would be awesome for all of them to get their own film, but Raph’s role as leader is so intrinsic to the TV show’s identity I almost see the series as Raph’s story. Idk, just my thoughts.
Krang felt more like a threat in this movie then any other adaptation… and I loved how they took them and made there robot suits look like those statues from the TMNT movie
Bringing up your point on the whole 11-minute thing at the start, yeah, the Rise team said stuff like more comedy and shorter runtimes were mandated by Nick. I mean, Lou should see all the stuff the team behind this movie wanted to put in here stuff the team behind this movie wanted to put in here + the show on Twitter, It makes me hope that the success of this film will make Nick reconsider Rise for a second shot - weirder things have happened!

I was surprised when future Leo cursed, the turtles haven’t done that since the first 90’s film. I love that they Netflix gave them creative freedom.
I’m in a group chat for RISE TMNT. The fandom actually found screenshots of several scenes with blood in them during the final fight.
There was a twitch chat with the writers, cast and crew. And there was a lot cut for this movie. They shared a lot of art concept for the movie, And get this the original future opening was 10 minutes long!
And like you said, Nickelodeon was very controlling on what the studio wanted and Not what the Producers, Crew etc wanted.
We learned a lot of what was supposed to happen in season 2 going into season 3.
They even shared an animated cut scene Of Raph and Leo having a conversation revealed near the end that Raph Never Wanted to be the leader, he’s the oldest, it was his responsibility to look out for his brothers and that he was proud of Leo.
But the show and movie is trending like crazy. The Cast and Crew Are hinting that the show may come back better than ever. I’m excited.

I loved this movie. As a 37 yr old fan, this thing had all of the heart, just enough humor and a ton of action. The plot centering around Leonardo's arc adds a character study layer that is never present in TMNT movies, but shines here. I never watched the series, but I can't say enough about this movie. The super powers aspect really fit in this version given the world this is set in. It shows how versatile TMNT is as a property. -Tof
I watched this movie at least 10 times now and cried every time. THE ANIMATION IS SO FREAKING GOD-TIER!!!!!! The show so underrated and deserves more love than it got. It’s called “Rise” for a reason, these Turtles are growing up into.. well… you know, “Heroes In A Half Shell!”
Leo really got on my nerves in the first half of the movie, it felt like all of his character development from the show, which he got a ton of, got thrown away and he had to get all of his development back.
The art style was so dope me and my kid had a blast watching it. Seeing him do ninja moves and yelling for the turtles to win was awesome
The final fight with krang and the turtles have no right to be that good like my God it was beautiful
I love this movie this definitely felt like a Leo movie. He learns about what it means to be a leader and definitely grew up. As for Raph I'm glad they didn't go the jealous route with him and that he's okay with Leo being the leader but just want him to stop being so egocentric and learn to listen and rely on his family. It was a amazing movie and I really hope that rumor is true that if the movie does really good maybe they might bring it back and given that it's been trending on Twitter for a couple of days who knows.

I was kind of turned off when Rise first premiered for some of the reasons you said plus they only aired a few of the slapsticky comedic short episodes when I first saw it. But I gave the show a second chance when it dropped on Netflix and yeah it's right up there with 2012 as one of the best TMNT series. It's going for a different vibe and take on the characters but they're still charming and true to their core. Beautiful animation, witty (though can sometimes miss) dialogue and a family that is NOT afraid to show how much they love each other. Love what they did with Ralph, hated the fight with him and Leo over leadership in previous incarnations but here it feels right and makes sense. Raph isn't an angry hothead, he's a big guy with a soft heart that will pound anyone who hurts his own.
Yeah, this interpretation of Raphael was great in that it was a different take and yet still in tune with his character.

Also loved Mikey trying to be the new Dr Strange. Magic Hands Mikey for the win.
I actually really LOVED IT! It was so heartfelt, emotional, action-packed and surprising, because I really didn’t expect it to be this amazing!

I just watched this on Netflix. It was way better than I thought it would be. At first I was thrown off by Leonard and Raphael personality being different than any other TMNT series. After I got over that shock, I was all in on this great animation.
So glad you got to watch it bro! I'll admit, I was on the fence at first with the changes, but I embraced it for what it was and really grew a love for it! That said, this movie went to Gurren Laagan levels of animation and was truly spectacular!
The rise of the tmnt movie did for me what trollhunters rise of the titans couldn’t do. Rise gave their focus to the characters that needed it the most whilst still including the rest of the cast, it let there be consequences to characters actions and it absolutely pushed the stakes. THIS is how you end a series with a bang.

This movie was so much fun to watch, from the animation,the characters,the story and it's probably my favorite TMNT movie ever. I grew up from watching every known version of the TMNT from the classic 80's to early 2000's and up. And out of all of them while being different I enjoy Rise a quite lot and hope to see more turtle series/movies in the future.❤🧡💙💜🐢🐢🐢🐢
This show’s tone and style actually reminds me of the Archie comics from back in the day. Especially that early arc when they wore different costumes from their normal attire.
Those costumes were the original costumes Eastman and Laird designed for the Turtles
@@beardupbeerdown7355 The original “costumes” shown all the way back from the first concept art of the turtles was similar to their normal Bandana/arm-knee pad attire with small differences.Unless you mean Eastman and Laird teamed up to design the costumes for Rise, which I have no knowledge of because I didn’t really follow any BTS content for this show.

This movie was great. there are no words to describe how mad I am that this series was ended prematurely when this is what it was capable of. I've felt this for a while, but the Ben Schwartz version of Leo is the best of any iteration of the turtles. thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
The series won me over with that one ladder screne that seemed like it was inspired by an action scene from Kill la Kill.
I grew up on old tmnt....I just watched this show and Movie.....This is one of the best adaptation on Tmnt!...it made me fall in love with the turtles again

Rise definitely benefits from being binged over the weekly televised format. I love the show but I can understand losing patience waiting 2 or 3 weeks just to get an 11 minute "fluff" episode (I'm not gonna say filler)
As someone who grew up with the original 80s cartoon, Rise grew to be my favourite TMNT cartoon. And this movie was awesome. The animation alone, wow. And Leos arc, so good!
I loved the entirety of this film. Some of the best 2D animation I've ever seen. Took the back story of the Krang and Casey Jones and did something different that totally worked
I absolutely love Rise, and I thought the movie was great. I understand why people had issues with the show, because they made such drastic changes to characters who have been largely the same for 30 years, but I personally love the changes. The changes all make sense, and I thought they made the turtles feel fresh for the first time in a long time
i had never bothered to watch the show but gave the movie a chance, and i fell in love! I immediately binged the entire series and its easily already one of my favorite versions of the turtles! I'm really hoping this gives it enough traction to make a season 3

I remember when Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first came out I dismissed it mostly because of too much changes with characters (I was 2003 TMNT kid). When the movie came out I have already take my interest in RotTMNT (mostly because of the TH-cam videos) so I spent 2 whole days to watch the series and I'm glad I did. It was great and the movie, OMG the movie is just so amazing it definitely one of my favorites of all the time. I genuinely hope the series will come back because dam it deserves it

Fantastic review as always, Andre! I can tell you that as someone who wasn't a Ninja Turtles fan, my husband got me to marathon this entire series with him in 48 hours, culminating in watching the movie.
I. Was. HOOKED.
It was sort of embarrassing how bad I was at telling the characters apart anytime my husband tried to share anything about TMNT with me. He could have practically made a color coded chart and I still would have screwed it up. But Rise taught me about these characters, and how they were each unique. I fell in love with how they interact, how true and genuine they felt to me as brothers. I kept demanding we watch more, and I NEVER marathon shows.
The movie was the perfect way to cap it off for me. It had so much heart, and I definitely cried my eyes out watching the characters have these heartfelt moments. Watching the brothers cry at the end, when things look the worst - I was DEVASTATED. Hurting for characters that 72 hours ago, I couldn't have told apart.
So yeah! Just wanted to share my perspective as someone who wasn't a TMNT fan before this - I can tell you that this movie was absolutely my thing :)

Honestly, I haven’t been much of a turtle’s fan over the decades so I gave Rise a Miss when it came out.
Then I watched this review by Mickaela Orchard and checked it out last year. I was hooked. Aside from one bad character redemption and one episode where issues weren’t ever addressed, this series was just fun.
Whilst I do like that it went a little darker, what I appreciate is that the movie never lost the earnest, endearing charm of these characters.
Real talk here; showing Leo rise from unreliable but talented strategist to a family oriented leader is the best decision I’ve seen related to Leo in a long time.
Growing up, I liked Leo in terms of his skill but never his character. He was kind of like Cyclops in X men; reliably boring and rather stilted when it came to his family. He was the leader but, when your team is your family, that can be rather unsettling when you have a clear hierarchy. Plus, since he’s already the leader in most versions, it’s more a fact of life than a “I wonder why that is” situation. Didn’t help that there’s a couple versions where he hits on girls saying stuff like “well, technically we’re not related.”
Rise for Leo is what X men evolution was for Cyclops and I love it.
I do hope this recent tidal wave of attention and love gets this iteration new life whether it be movies or a new season. For movies, I could see them do one for each of the turtles.
A Raphael one where he gets some friends like the others and figures out what he’s going to do now Leo is the leader.
A Michaelangelo movie where we might address some of the issues of the Draxum redemption and Mikey grows up a little.
A Donatello movie where his insecurities and mad science tendencies get everyone caught up in the likes of Agent Bishop.
Heck, maybe a Splinter one where we see people from his past return, a possible chance to become human again and an old enemy comes to play could work. Or something where they meet a version of Usagi. Although that might be the shipping goggles talking lol.
Regardless, I really enjoyed it.

I love how Krang got more organic and badass and if you watch the series, the character development on Leo, makes rise of the TMNT went from silly kids series to new classic TMNT

You actually brought up a good point: people forget that TMNT has stated MULTIPLE TIMES that there is a multiverse. The 80's turtles have met the 2003 and 2012 turtles in both shorts and episodes. Hell there is a movie where TMNT meets Batman!
That makes me think...what about other fandoms that have established multiverses? Like the MCU. I know people argue about how different each Spiderman is but..how come Miles Morales is loved as a new part of the spiderverse , but Leo being a comedic emotional boy is a sin to the fandom???

I only saw the first episode of this series and had no trouble following the movie. This movie was a GREAT tmnt movie. I loved it. So well animated. It actually makes me want to go back and give the series another shot.
It is funny you mentioned everything you did at the end. I did not watch rise, but I did view this as a multiversal ninja turtle story, and I enjoyed it.
Fun fact in older Leonardo’s design if you pay close attention you can see that Raphael and Donatello’s bandanas are tied around Leo’s katana (:
Just got done watching the series…the last arc really put tears in my eyes. As soon as I get back from walking my dog I’m watching the movie😮💨 for what the show was it felt like it ended on it’s own and not from not being renewed.I wish we got more but I’m excited to see what comes next until then I’ll be rewatching every series

Seeing so many people have such a good experience with this movie and going to check the series out in turn- and loving it a lot of the time- is so nice. I grew up with 2003 and 2012, I love those two to bits but Rise... Rise helped me through a really hard spot in my life, it helped me get through so many Anxiety attacks as a comfort show. Seeing it be recognized is so wonderful. I really hope this convinces Nick to give it a 2nd chance, but even if that doesn't happen? This movie was a gorgeous, emotional send off.

I didn't get the chance to watch Rise, but this movie got me super motivated to go back and watch the show. It's so much fun and well animated. Would not be opposed to another one of these movies (maybe even getting a Turtles Forever 2 with this creative team)
It was and still is the best freakin movie ever, it even has a lot of "oh shit" scenes it is that intense

I was one of those people who didn't watch Rise because I didn't like many of the changes. After seeing trailers for this movie I decided to watch it and have since gone back and watched the entire series and loved it. This is the 2nd time that I missed out on a fantastic show because I didn't like the look (first being Transformers Prime). I will have a more open mind for future shows now.
I got into Ninja Turtles through the 2012 version. Then, I went back to watch the 2003 version (Because my sister and I slightly argued over which theme song was better lol. She said 2003 and I said 2012, but now I like both equally). But when I saw Rise, the theme song is what made me start watching. I prefer the other two above it regardless, but it doesn't take away from it or anything. I like Rise for what it is. And, anytime you can switch things up and go in different, creative directions is a positive in my book. I may check out the movie if I have the time. Great review!
At first I didn't adapt to it because I just loved the 2012 version so much. But over time I grew to enjoy it! And LOVED the movie.

I have been a tmnt fan for a long time, it took me 2 episodes to feel what i feel now. Rise of the tmnt is for me the best turtle serie. I still dont understand they cancelled the show. Amazing characters, they are all teen, even leo. Leo has so much life in him. Not that serieus, and you saw the leader in him changing in de series. Mickey was the hart.. everty turtle had something special. I dont know what to say. But different dont means its wrong. We still have the 80, 2003, 2012 cartoon. And now we have Rise. Thank you !
Casey Jones was awesome in this movie. Easily the best version of him in anything I've seen on screen in show or movie, and in the conversation with some of the comic stories I've seen.
I loved seeing this "this is how Leo becomes a leader" moment. Given the hilarious way the show ended, it was a perfect follow up. And as for the show, I didn't give it much credit at first, thought it was going to be a Teen Titans Go kinda deal, aimed at younger audiences and would get around to it when I do.
But when the movie came out, and I got around to it I was HOOKED from episode one, to the end of the movie. Both this movie AND the TTG movie are just downright REAL GOOD DARN MOVIES and the shows are a fun ride for me!
I want that cut content, give me the chance I will buy that! Such a beautiful movie! When Krang leader squared up for the finale I was giggling - so much raw, villainous vibe!

I wish Rise would have continued after the movie. I really like the character designs and how they are all different turtles. I'd love a 22 minute episodes with a serious like plot. The movie was really great. The Krang felt so menacing, and the animation was simply fantastic. Rise is always good with this animation.
Rise is a great show, and the movie is even better. I grew up with the 90s TMNT and it’s a refreshing take with great animation.
But I did wonder though where was Baron Draxum during the movie since he’s still wanted by the hidden city

This is one of my favorite movies of this year. I also loved the show. I hope Netflix will pick the show up for season 3 one day. I cried a lot too it's been awhile since I had a good cry lol

I LOVED the movie. Best thing we had in a long time. Im not a TMNT fan but this movie made me go back and watch rise.
As someone who read the original comics and who has been watching the various shows on and off... this is one of the better animated entries. Lots of character, lots of action, just straight out fun.
Not having watched any of the Rise series (felt I wasn't the target demographic for a show aimed at younger kids), I didn't feel like I needed to know the lore of the series while watching the movie, though now I'm curious enough to go back and check it out.
I literally enjoyed the Rise of the TMNT movie, so many great scenes and characters! After three years of knowing about it the wait was definitely worth it, hope that it could potentially spark a potential third and final season but that’s most likely not going to happen sadly. Leo was so good in it as well as Casey Jones 2, their interactions were definitely one of the best in the movie. All I’m going to say is if this indeed the true finale to Rise then we can all agree that this continuity went out with a bang!
This movie was really good... Krang was scary as crap 😳. I thought I would've been tired of all the turtles incarnations but man... I'm ready to go back and watch the shows lol
Not only was this movie incredible, but I noticed that a few scenes parallel the 2012 series. For example the fight between Leo and Raph and the ending between Leo and Krang. Even as its own thing, I loved this show. They have truly risen.
No one is talking about the fact that future Leo has Raph's arm.
I was watching the first 4 minute video again AND LEO HAS RAPH AND DOONIES MASKS ON HIS SWORD!! MY HEART!!!!!!
3:11 we actually see blood four times throughout the movie! The last three are really hard to catch if you don't know about them but they're all in the fight scene between Leo and the main krang guy and they're in that anime style where a character caughs up blood. Might just be me but it's really fun to go through the scene frame by frame to catch it because they're so neatly animated

I hope we can get a season 3, there could’ve been a 5th turtle in there and I would really love to see what they would do with Casey😃and yk what? When they had that train or bus that was taken over by the Kraang, it reminded of Race with the Demon form the 2012 series

**RISE TMNT FACTS**
- The movie was made for newcomers so that they wouldn't need to watch the series for context
- Leo's leadership development would've happened throughout the series, but got cut short cause of it being paused. Hence why Splinter out of nowhere made him leader (pretty sure that joke would've been kept anyway)
- Cassandra (Foot Recruit) would've been her own character but had to be changed to Casey Jones because the creators wanted to have their own Casey but again cancelation
- VENUS DE MILO AND JENNIKA WOULD'VE BEEN IN THE SERIES!!!! They would've been lost turtles created by Draxxum then one of them MAYBE being Big Mama's assistant? They are a turtle so HMMMMM. again. SIX TURTLES GUYS!!!!!!!
- Each turtle would've gotten bonding time with Karai and Draxxum
I actually really enjoyed it. Rise was a point where I felt my time for Turtles had passed. I still had my originals and that was fine and this wasn't intended for me. That being said after watching this and halfway through the series I'm happy to admit I was wrong. Though it's never going to be my favourite version of the turtles there's still some fun to be had. Plus my sons love it and that's what counts.

Didn’t give the CGI series a try at first and loved it. Saw the style of these turtles and wasn’t going to go near it. This movie was GREAT! I’m glad I took the time out to watch it. Hope this is the start of many.
I heard some very good things about it so definitely going to check it out!
And thank you for mentioning in the Batman with the turtles movie I saw that actually early at WonderCon and was a delight and I liked it so much, got the Blu-ray first day!
The film was great, it had action, comedy and adventure in the film. Ben Schwartz Leonardo was funny. Leo kind of reminded me of Sonic in Sonic 2. I saw Sonic 2 with my brother once in the theaters. The film taught me about teamwork. I can't wait for the next TMNT film in 2023.
I would love it if rottmnt continued in just movie format, where each one focus on each character, while hitting the storylines that the show didn't have time to pursue. Like a return of shredder, or the ultimate revenge of Baxter stockboy. Definitely a some kind of yokai war and turtles forever 2.
Oooh, i want a yokai war tho. Like half of New York is mutated so maybe yokai/mutants will rise idk
but in general they could do it in the Draxum storyline. How many opportunities they missed...
Shredder is destroyed btw (although they could do a storyline with another mystical armor from the Krangs)
