    When people scream at me over a prolonged time, it traumatizes me. I stop being able to hear their words and only hear the rage.

    I’m confused. There seems to be a contradictory belief. On one hand it was said how an others behaviors can effect us. And then it’s also said that we can’t say because you do this then I act like this. In some ways I understand. We need to learn how to respond. However at the same time we say it’s normal to get depressed and feel bad.

    I did speak up and said “I felt hurt when you said…” his response, “Screw you!”

      Wow! That’s sounds like Contempt & is so harsh! The Goodmans (couples therapists) talk also about how toxic Contempt is. They have some great podcasts too, but as Leslie says, each person needs to work on themselves. You can’t force someone to care enough to do the work. You can only then work on yourself.
