The Orange and Blackstar are by far the best two in all comparisons. Out of those two it's just a matter of personal tone taste. Either one is a good decision :)

I have been playing through an Orange OR for the last 25 years and as much as I wanted to prefer the Orange, the Blackstar sounds twice as good. I ordered the Blackstar with the extension speaker
For me: Best overall: Orange Best overdrive: Marshall Best clean: Fender The orange had great clean and overdrive tones. For just clean though I'd go with the Fender. The Blackstar was still ok on both fronts but I thought the Fender had a much better clean tone and the Marshall and Orange had better overdrives. The Marshall clean is lacking. So IMO the orange is the clear winner, and I'm normally not a big fan of their amps.
I have one of these but it randomly now doesn't output. Worth mentioning that the sound is better as the speaker is physically a lot bigger than the others
The Orange has an 8ohm speaker out, let's not forget! Huge advantage over the others - I plug it into a 1x12 cabinet at home and the sound is much improved but still quiet. Just as portable as the rest for traveling
I'm a Fender fan as well and I agree, but the Fender cleans were nice. The overdrive tones were terrible though. IMO the orange had the best combination of clean and overdrive. The Marshall has a decent overdrive too but the clean was not great. And I'm neither a fan of Marshall or orange.
The fender was too compressed and didn’t really have a “crunch” sound. It was overdrive or not with nothing in between. The Orange was the best all around.
I thought that the Marshall sounded the worst out of all of them with the Orange and Blackstar sounding the best. The Fender... meh. The Marshall sounded like an old Emerson AM handheld radio. Yeah, that bad. lol
The Orange Crush has the best "tone" for the gain settings, but the Blackstar has the best speaker sound and best definition. Surprised the Marshall wasn't on top. The Fender had pretty awesome gain settings, too.

I own both the blaskstar and Marshall ones. The blackstar is great as a set of mini studio monitors. Theyre frfr speakers and sound pretty good. Guitar tones are also very usable. The Marshall sounds INCREDIBLE when you output it to a bigger cab or speaker.

Can’t beat those mini battery operated black star amps when it comes to the portable category. Just bought one and It sounds great especially for high gain.
1. Orange: Not the best with Headphone, but mic’d has good classic sound 2. Fender: Good cleans; the high gain has some fuzz that I like 3. Blackstar: Bit muddy at points; not the most crisp with high gain, but sounds nice with flat controls; not as distorted 4. Marshall: Decent with Headphone, but mic’d sounds like a toy
I have the Marshall and the Fender one, I'd take them with me when i go away for work. I ended up giving the Marshall to my brother as i preferred the Fender, they all sound pretty cool. The fender one had a louder clean tone and it does have twin speakers which is cool too. Cheers

Needed a new mini-amp for my daughter so I had her watch this video and take her pick. I use and prefer the Blackstar Fly 3 from this video and it is superb. After she watched the video, she picked the Marshall. I don’t think it’s the best here, but it has a distinctive sound/tone. Unique. Classic. A Marshall Amp. The Marshall mystique is real, even to a novice who is unaware of brands and fads. Purchased the Marshall MS-4 online, which compared to the Marshall MS-2 is the “Marshall Stack” version with adjustable gain, essentially the same thing x2. Arrives this week, and I am excited to hear her use it. Thanks Toby, for helping us make a selection!
Orange sounds best for me The Drive and Clean sounds are good overall. Blackstar is also really good I was disappointed in the Fender, even for the clean sounds
The fender overdrive wasn’t good but the clean was better than the others. I think if you use two of these with an a/b switch you’d have a great combo. Say like fender for your clean channel and Orange for the dirty and overdrive channel. I mean they’re fairly cheap so you could easily afford two or more of these.
Love the little Marshall . Last time I saw one being demonstrated was at the. Marshall road show back in the 90’s I got to meet Jim Marshall as well which was pretty amazing. The orange sounds good and it’s got a built in tuner pretty handy.
I have the older version of the Crush mini, the Micro Crush. I've run it through a bigger speaker a few times and it sounds epic (No ext output on it, needs modification). I'm thinking I might turn it into a pedal though, I bet it would make an awesome drive/distortion/fuzz.
On one tone I like the Blackstar more, on a few others I prefer the Orange Crush. I like that the crush has the tuner built in and the output to amplifier, so I'm going with the Crush.
The Polaris riff at 1:20 through the Marshall sounded exactly how it sounds on the record at the start because of the telephone filter on the song haha. Killer playing btw!
@@whitebobross1341 I own one too and your statement proves you do not really own one. Nice try though. You fooled a few. Although I suspect one of the likes is your own, so fooled a couple.
My moneys on Orange and Marshall but they were all surprisingly decent actually. They almost just sounded unique as opposed to bad. I would totally use some of these to add a bit of uniqueness and character to a tone. Good review too!
I did a blind test, print screen every time i like the tone and the blackstar is the one that i liked more, and already was the one that i was thinkin to get, loved it
These are the tones I need for a raw lo-fi Black Metal project! They all sounded good in that regard, both clean and dirty tones! Looks like I'll be picking up one of each sometime in the future!
Blackstar is the best mini Amp I've used. I sold my old one last year, and bought a fender one to replace it a couple months ago, and it's awful :/ Definitely gonna be getting a Blackstar again
Because there's no amplifier output stage or speakers/cabinet involved. With HP's you simply have a preamp and volume/tone control so in effect you are just getting the sound of your guitar through your headphones.
I was in the market for a pig nose type of thing and came across this video. Blackstar won it for me across the board. Great work on the comparisons and thanks for this video!
I have the Orange, I like it so much. It's good for organs also (according to my tastes). Blackstar is the best maybe, Marshall is also good, Fender is a fart compared to other amps.
That last riff from Feeder is pretty sweet! I've got an older version of the Orange, and I've got the Blackstar. The Blackstar amp sounds waaaay better to me. But when you crank up the volume on the Orange amp, it sound much better than on lower volume, while Blackstar sounds good either way.
I have a lot of travel gear (I'm often on the road for work). The Blackstar is one of the smallest, easiest to pack, and sounds the best (including all of the above plus a Pignose). The Roland Micro series are better but are substantially larger and thus aren't as convenient to pack nor really apples-to-apples given cone and amp size. Plus... there is a second Blackstar extension speaker you can plug into the first! Also, my favorite travel guitar by far is the "Taylor GSmini with custom installed B-Band contact pickup". For super-small, my favorite is a "Lap Axe".
Thanks for doing this test. Im surprised and I would actually use the Orange and Marshall during recording for a 'lofi' crunch/overdrive effect or perhaps even as a reasonable clean. The others sounded less usable to me (based on my current headphones). In order of pref: 1 - Orange, 2 - Marshall, 3 - Blackstar, 4 - Fender.

Marshall - Distortion
Blackstar - Crunch
Fender - Clean
Orange Crush - Also Distortion
I agree with This
@@danield1938 me too
Thats why i bought marshall, you are 100% right :D
Fender sucked on everything else but on the clean ones its beautiful
omg Those cleans were so GORGEOUS it made me consider buying it just for that alone, even though everything else was just awful! lol
Can’t beat those mini battery operated black star amps when it comes to the portable category. Just bought one and It sounds great especially for high gain.
I have the Blackstar and it’s incredible. Versatile and the batteries have lasted way longer than I expected.
Got mine last year. Still have not changed the batteries.
Best cleans - Fender and Blackstar
Best dirts - Orange and Blackstar
1. Orange: Not the best with Headphone, but mic’d has good classic sound
2. Fender: Good cleans; the high gain has some fuzz that I like
3. Blackstar: Bit muddy at points; not the most crisp with high gain, but sounds nice with flat controls; not as distorted
4. Marshall: Decent with Headphone, but mic’d sounds like a toy
Yeah f*ck you
The fact that you put fender at 2 lmaoooo. It sounds like an iPhone speaker.
I regret my decision to create this comment.
The people who disliked purchased the fender amp before watching this 😏
But the clean tho!
“So what amp did you use to record the new album?” Reaches into pocket
I have the Marshall and the Fender one, I'd take them with me when i go away for work. I ended up giving the Marshall to my brother as i preferred the Fender, they all sound pretty cool. The fender one had a louder clean tone and it does have twin speakers which is cool too. Cheers
The Orange and the Blackstar mini amps sound better than my fender mustang....
Luca Constantinescu hahah same
Lol Fender Mustangs are great what are you talking about?
@@khoroshoorange just in clean sound I have a mustang 2 sounds good, but over or distortion.... No
I add a micro terror a way better
@@eltongonzalez4523 yes it does Sound good over distortion. Ist the orange Terror Mini slightly better? might be.. but i think you can do a whole lot with the Mustang if you know how. th-cam.com/video/jvtvstFjVuU/w-d-xo.html + th-cam.com/video/yGTYgrbkNxs/w-d-xo.html also you need to try some of the Community presets and Look into the fuse Software before you judge that very versitale cheap amp. Fuse is still being hosted on fansites btw its ridicilous how much is locked away into the fuse Software and how much you can do with it. I think the Standard presets suck in comparison to the Community ones. And Lots of people never use them. Mustang also works Well with Pedals. th-cam.com/video/OjIRSQTQulA/w-d-xo.html the Mustang I amp at about a hundred bucks is a steal. So anyways watch These Videos and.then come Back and Tell me it doesnt Sound good over distortion LOL
Maybe the orange Mini amp is Worth buying If its cheaper and works with Pedals. I assume it does? Because if not i would Just buy a cheap Pedal to enhance the distortion a little bit. Honestly i dont hear how these amps Sound better. And i doubt the people who agreed with this comment or upvoted it ever tried a Mustang or actually went through the trouble of getting to know that little piece of Hardware. In the right hands those Mustang amps are magic
Orange sounds best for me
The Drive and Clean sounds are good overall.
Blackstar is also really good
I was disappointed in the Fender, even for the clean sounds
Agree
I felt the fender won it for the clean.although I personally own the orange after testing these myself
Completely agree. That was my take.
really.
Phelps Merrell I felt like it(Fender) sounded as if a bad guitar was played through it
lol 😂
Manuel Yankey note: my reply is in respond to your initial comment. In other words, I completely agree with you.
Looking for that one dude who says "I think the Fender one's distortion sounded good"
Here i am :) and i have an orange
Yeah it sounded good to me , but im new to electric guitar , whats wrong with that type of distortion ?
Probably because it was treble heavy and the sound is too scattered
The fender overdrive wasn’t good but the clean was better than the others. I think if you use two of these with an a/b switch you’d have a great combo. Say like fender for your clean channel and Orange for the dirty and overdrive channel. I mean they’re fairly cheap so you could easily afford two or more of these.
@@RajShekhar-jy2zi It was very squeaky (too much presence).
Love the little Marshall . Last time I saw one being demonstrated was at the. Marshall road show back in the 90’s I got to meet Jim Marshall as well which was pretty amazing. The orange sounds good and it’s got a built in tuner pretty handy.
The Blackstar is leagues ahead of the rest. So clean and clear like a real amp
The orange killed playing cleans and was stand out for me. I’m definitely going to check that out.
I have the older version of the Crush mini, the Micro Crush. I've run it through a bigger speaker a few times and it sounds epic (No ext output on it, needs modification). I'm thinking I might turn it into a pedal though, I bet it would make an awesome drive/distortion/fuzz.
The cleans on that fender amp were impressive. I think the Marshall and Blackstar were best overall.
Marshall: "Clean" is relative.
OMG I didn't expected that Radiohead and Brand New to come out. So nostalgic. I love the Orange btw.
The headphone out sounds make me wonder if these are all the same exact circuit, just with different enclosures and speakers.
I also noticed that.
i agree. Only the Blackstar is different
The orange has tons of bottom end in comparison
components may change
On one tone I like the Blackstar more, on a few others I prefer the Orange Crush. I like that the crush has the tuner built in and the output to amplifier, so I'm going with the Crush.
0:46 That song is called Radio by Alkaline Trio. Just for your information :)
Thanks man
The Polaris riff at 1:20 through the Marshall sounded exactly how it sounds on the record at the start because of the telephone filter on the song haha. Killer playing btw!
The blackstar with headphones sounds like a legit rig
I actually use it as a pedalboard/backup amp😂
Johannes Butz
As a pedalboard? What?
I own one and it sounds horrible with headphones
@@whitebobross1341 I own one too and your statement proves you do not really own one. Nice try though. You fooled a few. Although I suspect one of the likes is your own, so fooled a couple.
The little orange was getting busy..and Marshall had some kick too...but the little fender was so struggling..
My moneys on Orange and Marshall but they were all surprisingly decent actually. They almost just sounded unique as opposed to bad.
I would totally use some of these to add a bit of uniqueness and character to a tone.
Good review too!
That little Orange thing is absolutely mindblowing. :D
Is it just me, or does the Orange “crush” the competition?!?
nice one
Naahh, i think the fly 3 is the "star" in the competition.
@@Xero6969 haha, good one too.
Maybe if Boss entered the Roundup, it would have chopped the competition with its Katana!
@@Texturas75 very creative one also
"Shaking like a dog shittin razor blades" the first clean song was called radio by alkaline trio, I love that tune
I did a blind test, print screen every time i like the tone and the blackstar is the one that i liked more, and already was the one that i was thinkin to get, loved it
The Black Star definitely takes this one.
Vinnie Moreno I agree
Sounds muffled orange wins
if you're deaf
Orange by a mile. Black Star 2nd. Fender sounds like a toasted fart.
1. Blackstar (I'm very surprised)
2. Orange
3. Marshall
4. Fender (I'm very disappointed)
I'll have to go with Blackstar as the winner.
These are the tones I need for a raw lo-fi Black Metal project! They all sounded good in that regard, both clean and dirty tones! Looks like I'll be picking up one of each sometime in the future!
Bruh orange is the kvltest
I have the orange crush mini
I love it it doesnt sound that great but it has a speaker output which sounds INCREDIBLE
Blackstar is the best mini Amp I've used. I sold my old one last year, and bought a fender one to replace it a couple months ago, and it's awful :/
Definitely gonna be getting a Blackstar again
Interesting how they all sound exactly the same on headphone output.
I thought that was just me getting confused. I guess they did all sound the same on headphones output?
Because there's no amplifier output stage or speakers/cabinet involved. With HP's you simply have a preamp and volume/tone control so in effect you are just getting the sound of your guitar through your headphones.
I was in the market for a pig nose type of thing and came across this video. Blackstar won it for me across the board. Great work on the comparisons and thanks for this video!
I have the Orange, I like it so much. It's good for organs also (according to my tastes). Blackstar is the best maybe, Marshall is also good, Fender is a fart compared to other amps.
I have the Marshall ms-2. Nifty little desktop amps. I wouldn't mind owning the Orange one too :)
this is the best review for anything i've ever seen in my life
This is the best comment I’ve received in my life 👍👍👍
It is indeed
That last riff from Feeder is pretty sweet! I've got an older version of the Orange, and I've got the Blackstar. The Blackstar amp sounds waaaay better to me. But when you crank up the volume on the Orange amp, it sound much better than on lower volume, while Blackstar sounds good either way.
Straight to the point! Thank you.
Blackstar and Orange wins this btw.
Orange and blackstar take the win. I prefer the blackstar.
00:43 is where it starts to show how awesome these little dudes truly are especially the Orange and Blackstar
Best amp for each one (imo)
Clean: Orange
Dirty: Blackstar
That ever-so-sweet crunchy tone: Marshall
The "diarrhea" tone: Fender
Wow! Was not expecting to hear Radio by alkaline trio.
right? haha great song
Wasn't expecting that or brand new either.
Haha fenders d**shit and razorblades
Thanks for doing this test. Im surprised and I would actually use the Orange and Marshall during recording for a 'lofi' crunch/overdrive effect or perhaps even as a reasonable clean. The others sounded less usable to me (based on my current headphones).
In order of pref:
1 - Orange,
2 - Marshall,
3 - Blackstar,
4 - Fender.
Same
Fender should be embarrassed to sell junk with their name on it.
Actually it just says Mini Twin Amp so they must have realized it would be a mistake to have the Fender name on it; )
@@crimsondragonfly5127 I think the Fender logo may be somewhere else on the unit. It is definitely sold as a Fender product.
@@joebryant8500 That's it. a sticker.. I guess these are made in Indonesia.
@@joebryant8500 Take the gits out of it and fill it full of concrete. You can leave it lying around in a public space, and video people trying to steal it.
Fender tube amps and USA made electric guitars are great. Everything else (solid state amps, acoustic guitars, PA gear, non-USA guitars) is questionable.
The blackstar one sounded good all the way through 🙌
