🥹 that’s so sweet. I love my parents, they did/sacrificed so much for me and I really want to be there for them as they age (dad but also my mam and my step dad! Who I am hoping will get a chance to move closer) xxx

I knowww omg we already have such amazing photos of them out playing it’s such a dream garden for kids! That’s why one of the first big spends when we moved in was iron gates! Xx
I just introduced my 5 year old sister to the Home Alone movies this week. She loves them but she can't handle Kevin being forgotten by his parents. She was adopted by my parents and has bad issues with anyone being left or forgotten. So I think it's a love/hate thing. Anyway, I love the movies and my sister and I'm glad you guys are watching them, too. :)
Your dad's apartment is sooo nice and I'm sure he'll love it and you will love having him there. Very cute seeing you all shopping for Christmas decor. Our tree now has lights already on it, but my mother used to wrap the lights around a hanger using the hanger as a frame. It took a few hangers, but it works really well. I love Caroline Winkler too. Just watched a video of hers last night.
100% on the rug quote, trying to co vince my parents of the same, they make all the difference!! Definitely so much better with the rug making it feel like a ✨️home✨️
He needs a rug x I agree with you soft furnishings make everything feel cosier x I’d vote for art above the couch over the mirror I also like making practical things cute as another less cluttery way to add personality. The tea towels/ dish cloths or a cute soap dispenser for dish soap. Also you can totally teach yourself to wallpaper xx
See if you can get your dad to pick a nice bright landscape type print to put over his couch instead of the mirror. You continue to amaze me with your endless talents. I love you, your channel, and your books. Keep being you 💕💚💕💚
I've not been on youtube much so i haven't seen your content in a pretty long while, but wow I am so impressed with what an amazing mother you've become!
There's a Andy Warhol exhibition in Dublin at the minute. You should check it out they likely have big posters for his artwork on sale. And you could frame it.
As for covering the kitchen wall area. I have a similar situation and I have a super large beautiful walnut cutting board that I simply lean/stand against the ugly spot on the wall. Then you could put a row of live herbs, heavy pottery style fruit bowl, or keep nice olive oil bottles etc in front of it, or nothing at all. I used to use this same tactic to cover an old school telephone jack in my old kitchen. Also, baskets. Big sturdy baskets for big things, little ones for ugly little shit. We live in a 25 ft trailer currently and baskets have been a lifesaver for hiding the ugly in a small space. The baby’s stuff and toys, half opened toilet paper and paper towels, over flow clothes, anything and everything.
My parents did that compeition thing for getting dressed with me. I was always soo slow (am still sometimes :D) when my parents wanted to leave so we did a competiton, who got dressed the quickest. I was rushing and it took me like one minute :D
I have a island in my current apartment with a breakfast bar on one side. It's a game changer as the storage is so much better. The island has all our pots and pans and because it's a pretty large cupboard, it's easy to see what we have and not have to rummage for one of the less used pot or pan that's been shoved in the back of a small cupboard! And as there's only four of us and we all cook at different times, we don't need a full on dining table. And if all of us are eating, one of us is happy to sit on the sofa, or sit at our desks in our rooms (yet to happen because everyone is on different schedules, but I'm partial to a cup of tea and toast on the sofa in front of sunday morning tv!)
For your prints of a 50/60/70/80’s vibe, cannot recommend enough Projekt 26 highly enough. Super eclectic funky designs, although not framed, I get the standard ones from John Lewis and they’re bang on. Simple black frames do them wonders! You’ll be hard pressed to find other cool bits of history in cool art 👍 As for that funny wee gap on the wall, why not put a wee framed cork board over it - so you can get access if ever needed - and your dad can put pictures on it, to do lists, a wee calendar, which might be good for older age and or keeping track of health things if needed in future 👍 Great video!
@@melaniemurphyofficialI have several at home and they’re so great for adding some colour and interesting things to look at! if you want to see them in a home setting, there is a video on The Modern House channel, where they tour Harriet Williams house, who is one of the founders. I wasn't allowed to celebrate Christmas growing up, I only started because my ex's family did 6 years ago. Now I don't know if I should/how to celebrate the holiday. Your family tree is so cute
If decorating would bring you joy you totally can and should! You can thrift stuff for cheap and just do what makes you happy and feel cozy! And you can invite and have like a friends-Christmas like a Friendsgiving! There are no rules just Christmas Joy 🎄

I had a small, 400 sq ft studio apartment for years. It was a 100 yr old brick building with fake “hardwood” floors, and I wasn’t planning on getting a rug. I was 💯 a no. At first. I was so thrilled to finally have non-carpeted floors (because the carpets got disgusting in my old rental) that the last thing I wanted was a rug. I also am a minimalist who wanted to leave the space as uncluttered as possible to make it bigger. A rug felt like it would just add more clutter/ shrink the room. I was totally against it. I was SO SO SOOO wrong. Without a rug the room was FREEZING in the winter (and this is LA! No snow!). I put insulation strips in the windows and had the radiator blasting and it was still so cold at night. And the room had this weird echo that made watching TV or listening to music unpleasant. And yes it felt big but in a warehouse kinda way. Then after much research I bought a large area rug. And it changed EVERYTHING. I was kinda shocked at how extreme the difference was. (Basically this and air fryers, two trends I was avoiding but regretted not doing sooner). The room was SO MUCH warmer. If a person wants to help with the environment or just save money on heating for gods sake please get a rug. 🙏 Also, the echo was gone. It was like I had upgraded my sound system. That’s how much better everything sounded. And it didn’t shrink the room! By placing the rug in one corner it separated the space into sections, which tricked the brain into thinking there was multiple rooms, and more equaled bigger? I can’t explain but if done right it totally works. Even if you put personal preference, interior design, and “coziness” aside. Getting a rug in a non carpeted room is just a must. Especially with winter coming. I hope your dad changes his mind for his own sake. 😬🙏💚
I love this comment SO MUCH and will absolutely be sending it to my dad to further convince him! 😂❤️ Absolutely found the same thing with echo/sound! Xxxx
@@melaniemurphyofficial I’m so glad 😅 (also wanted to add something I forgot. For warmth factor it should be a thicker, real rug. Not those paper thin cheap pieces that are more about aesthetic, but are being sold everywhere nowadays. If it’s so light it needs to be taped down, it’s not heavy enough to make a real difference. Just in my experience 🤷♀️👍)

I watched the first 4 episodes of season 6 in a day. I just parked myself on the sofa with tea, then wine. And I was like 'is that it???' but the other episodes are being released later. I just love the betrayal of Prince Phillip; not so much in season 5 and 6 as I just see the see the High Sparrow from Game of Thrones and he's not as funnily arrogant and blunt as Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies.
