Had he not wrestled in TNA, he might have stopped there for good. You don't want your last match to be a random ass Impact match where you were forced to stop after a triceps injury.
There was a tag (six man tag?) in Japan that Andre wrestled in before his passing. His knee was heavily taped and he needed to lean on his partners shoulders to stay upright as he walked to the ring.
So even Andre the Giant couldn't even get matches in WWF/E at his end? That's absolutely wild. I said in another comment that it's super sad to see these old wrestlers who were once big stars in WWF/E, etc, be relegated to Japanese wrestling, etc, and not be able to Wrestle in WWE anymore.
I remember Marty Jannetty saying Andre once partnered with him and Shawn for a 6 man tag, but Andre was in such rough shape he didn't think he could even walk to the ring. Completely agree, Flair had literally the perfect ending to a career you could have had! Him and Shawn worked that last match so perfectly (Shawn carried him obviously, but of course he did, he’s the greatest in ring talent of all time and Flair was old and his body was run down) they had the crowd in tears, it was beautiful. Flair struggling to rise but showing everyone that despite his body failing him he still had that dog in him. Shawn then saying ‘I love you, I’m sorry’ and finishing him with the super kick. It was magical, and I’m not even the biggest wrestling fan, but that was so damn good. Had he retired as the match stipulated he had to retire if he lost, he would have walked away with the best close to a career you could have. But….. he came back.
said it before I'll say it again. plenty of older guys are starting to get back in the game at least a little bit thanks to modern medicine and everything, only difference is most of the older guys who are still wrestling today actually put in the work to take care of themselves. Sting and Goldberg for instance are incredibly healthy individuals and take care of themselves almost everyday. Ric Flair aside from the occasional training here and there with Jay Lethal is still out here drinking and smoking and doing crazy late night parties with Kid Rock... there's no fucking way anyone at *any* age is gonna be in peak physical condition after doing all that. but combine that with his age and wear and tear on his body he looks far worse than even someone like Hogan at this point. If Hogan didn't wreck his back doing the Leg Drop all those years I'd bet every cent I don't have he'd still be in ring shape, because he's still out there consistently lifting and keeping his arms jacked and everything... even *with* all his bad body parts and frail movement he's still in great shape visually and in a lot of areas. vs Ric.... well... I think that speaks for itself at this point.
I've heard Ric even passed out TWICE due to dehydration during the match, I think he said it himself during a podcast, how fucking sad, yet pretty brave to overcome this to finish the match.
Adam if you see this... thank you for all the entertainment you and cultaholic have gave my son and I. Cultaholics videos have been a way to teach my son about wrestling and the wrestlers before his time.
The 'final match' ric flair was one of the scariest matches I have seen in a while. Ric should not have even been allowed to wrestle and even passed out twice afterwards, I just hope he doesn't try to hurt himself even more it's just to painful to watch.
@@djdarq6311 I don't see how you can be jealous of an elderly man that intentionally cuts himself in a wrestling ring for "the action." Ric Flair is an absolute legend for a reason, but he needs to finally hang up his boots before Death does it for him.
@@djdarq6311 I am soooo jealous of Flair! I only wish I could be in his place, trying to work a 20 minute match in spite of being 73 and having heart problems, and passing out twice in front of a live crowd!
I have no problem with a 73 year old putting on the tights and doing a tag match. Plenty of ancient wrestlers do it. But they do the shine, the slow motion hot tag and the finish. They don't actually try to work a match.
I recall Flair saying in an interview why he stuck around for so long. "If I made $20,000 in a night, I spent $30,000." Flair used to roll pretty hard.
He is the original prime example of living the gimmick TO MUCH Hogan comes in at a VERY close second But this is what happens when you make a singular person your centerpiece It’s why the Attitude Era succeeded in that regard For WWF at the time we had The Rock, Austin, Undertaker, and Triple H WCW gave us Sting, Hogan, Ric, and NWO Multiple main eventers to switch off from instead of one centerpiece used 24/7
Number one should have been Andre the Giant. He was a physical mess for the last two years of his life and only participated in three-men tag teams in Japan in his final matches.
After that last match between Giant Haystacks (wrestling as Loch Ness) and the Giant (Paul Wight), Giant Haystacks returned to the UK for treatment for the Lymphoma that eventually killed him.
Randy Savage was being pegged for a run in World Wrestling All-Stars in 2002, with the idea being that he would own shares of the company AND be their world champion, but Randy wanted no part of it.
I was unfortunately at Flairs “last match”. I live only a few hours from Nashville and I was hoping I’d get to see a legend walk the isle one last time and have a match where Andrade did the heavy lifting and Naitch would get the hot tag, hit his moves, and win. However what I got was a sad display of someone who can’t let the glory days go, trying to do the same things he did 40 years ago and looking like a shell of himself. I was genuinely worried about his health and well being by the end of the match and I pray he doesn’t do any more 😢
The Flair match was the pits. The other guys carried him as best they could, but go-home time should have been no later than 15 minutes. For a man that delivered so many incredible matches throughout his career, this was depressing. There is a time you have to tell yourself, "I cannot do this anymore." Ric never understood that. I just hope he did not damage his heart further.
Initially I wanted to go see Ric's final match, since I don't live far from Nashville. But at tbe end of the day, I knew in my heart it would be a sad display. You can't have your childhood back. I'm glad I got to grow up and watch wrestling when I did, and there's always old WCW shows on Peacock.
Ric Flair should've been content to close out his career vs HBK at WM, the perfect sendoff for a legend. Same with HBK himself who also had the ultimate farewell against The Undertaker at WM.
It's more than an addiction, it's all he's ever known - it's his entire life. In many ways it would be impossible to separate Ric Flair from Richard Fliehr, especially for himself. That's one of the reasons he's probably the greatest wrestler of all time. Richard Fliehr stopped playing the character of Ric Flair a very long time ago. He became him instead.
Well, that and the fact that Fliehr spends money faster than he can earn it. I suppose five ex-wives and all that alimony might have something to do with it.
Considering HBK's Saudi match was just with his long time best friends without any real consequences for lost of money, I consider that match more of an epilogue if you will and his last official match was still Taker at WM26
Oh nah, he’s done dude. He is physically incapable. It’s amazing how much he aged in 10-12 years. He didn’t even look like the same person in the ring compared to 2008. There’s nothing left in the tank for a 75 year old man physically.
@@southernfried19 Don't worry Conrad will get him back in shape. He's already getting Flair on these special pills that boost energy, immune system, nervous system, heart health, and most important motor skills. By next year he will be ready for Hogan at Tropicana Field. WHOOOOO!

@@THENAMEISQUICKMAN My point is that is not sad, he didn't ruined anything he just did business like anyone would do. The match in Saudi Arabia doesn't make his retirement match any less good, is just a romanticized idea that "wrasslin" fans like to throw around.
I’m so glad Taker was able to have a pretty good send-off with that boneyard match with AJ. Imagine if his disastrous match with Roman or Goldberg or the one against DX was the last time we saw him. I pray he finally stays retired.
That is the worst part of it. I could see if Cena wasn't available then OK but he was on the show. That WM was amazing for the most part (Kofi and Becky).
How the hell is Andre the Giant, barely able to stand without support and being unwilling to leave the area near the ropes because of this, not in this video?
Seeing Kane age is just sad. Looking back at 2000/01 he was such a physically imposing specimen, and the mystique around the character evaporated as soon as the mask came off.
If they were going to have Shawn come back at all, he should’ve been a single against a younger talent like Styles. Shawn still had enough in him to shine one more time. He just needed somebody else that could go in there with him.
At this point Ric has been chasing what he used to be for almost 30 years. He had a great match with Shawn years ago and he should have been satisfied with it. That being said I can understand the need to chase the dragon one more time, and relive a high you once had so long ago. I just wish Ric could be satisfied and remember himself as we all remember him, as one of if not the greatest pro wrestler in the history of the business.
They even used a slow burning cover of “Running Up That Hill” to promote Shawn’s last match at Wrestlemania. Which would be a big deal today because of the bandwagoning going on.

Not helped by the fact neither a been on tv for much of anything for several months either, and neither using their King or Queen titles either
It did suck. Obviously it was a seven figure check to do it but you wonder just how absurd the money was for him to actually go through with it. And I can’t really blame him.
@@Matt-cr4vv yeah but the thing is unless Shawn’s really messed up somewhere in his life, does he really NEED the money
I was under the impression after he reaffirmed his faith in the early 2010s, or just before that, he’d gotten a good hold on his life
Unlike guys like Flair or Hogan he was medical fine and NOT a big spender nor a big partier anymore
So he’s not strapped for cash I’d assume
He’s still working for WWE even before Trips took over so he had a likely good paycheck
So really at the end of the day he literally sold his pride and fairy tale ending of a career for a nice paycheck, that seemingly wasn’t really needed
Cause thanks to the Network and the Internet that asterisk on his career will now NEVER go away
Flairs last match was basically an alternate ending to The Wrestler.
Randy The Ram could still work though.
Great film
i really think that film was motivation for RF
That's a load of shit.
The funny thing is Mickey Rourke was just 56 years old in The Wrestler, playing a character that was too old and broken and should just retire. Ric Flair was 73 years old in his "retirement" match.
Randy Savage having to hear the crowd chant for Hogan in his last match is really sad. Especially when you consider that Hulk tried to steal the spotlight from him every time he won the World title.

In Triple H's defense, his final televised match with orton was a Non-Sanctioned match was only to build both Bray vs Randy at Wrestlemania in that year.
Wait warrior's last match was against freaking orlando jordan the guy who had that weird gimmick in tna, that's gotta be depressing. R.I.P Ultimate Warrior
I wonder if HHH would've come back for another match past the thunderdome... thing if it wasn't for his heart condition. He was definitely winding down his career(2020 was the first year he didn't have a match in since he started his career. Maybe once more for Saudi money, but idk who he would've faced. In a perfect world, I would have loved him to be able to put over Sami Zayn in his last match, as Sami was the heart of the early days of NXT Black and Gold
@@yvngxcvntFrom what was shown in this video, it's depressing to see these oldschool big name wrestlers who are now relegated to Japanese wrestling and TNA wrestling and such... Like wtf? WWE cannot even give spots to their old draws?
I watched Flairs match live and I’ll be honest me and my old man were in tears because this man has already done so much for wrestling and to see him taking months off of his life with every bump was truly heart breaking
Reading this comment, i first thought you were in tears laughing 😅
It sucks knowing that Ric Flair wanted that last match, as if he wasn't satisfied with their final match at FREAKING WRESTLEMANIA!
Had he not wrestled in TNA, he might have stopped there for good. You don't want your last match to be a random ass Impact match where you were forced to stop after a triceps injury.
That's why these athletes need to stick to their word. Let nostalgia stay nostalgia.
His run in TNA wasn't bad, he definitely should have left it at that tho.
Indeed
If you didn’t know by now, it was for the $$$
There was a tag (six man tag?) in Japan that Andre wrestled in before his passing.
So the Rockers had him put a hand on each of their heads and use them for crutches. Just sad to think how bad he was feeling towards the end.
That Dynamite Kid one is one of the saddest things I've ever seen.
He was also a woman abuser and also abusive towards his own kids look it up its bad what he did

@@supernovamcr Fucking Hell mate. I didn't know about any of that. I only started watching wrestling when he was long gone. Fuck him all the same though.
But who can blame him? A big paycheck that he knew would go mostly to the benefit of his family, I would've done the same.

Flair is going to die in the ring.
said it before I'll say it again.
plenty of older guys are starting to get back in the game at least a little bit thanks to modern medicine and everything, only difference is most of the older guys who are still wrestling today actually put in the work to take care of themselves.
Sting is also 10 years younger and is still in really good shape.
Ric last match was very sad to watch dude literally almost died idk what was going though his head.
Rest In Peace to all the legends who have passed.
I think Ric Flair WANTS to die in the ring.

@@MikeClaeys i agree with mr. Chason. There indeed are better ways.
The 'final match' ric flair was one of the scariest matches I have seen in a while. Ric should not have even been allowed to wrestle and even passed out twice afterwards, I just hope he doesn't try to hurt himself even more it's just to painful to watch.
Kurt Angle vs Baron Corbin looks like Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 26 in comparison to the rest of this.
Had they been given even 15 minutes the match might have turned out okay or decent. Corbin is a reliable worker if not remarkable.
Almost like a 73 year man having a wrestling match was a bad idea from the off.
Jealousy is a disease

Jake Roberts actually had a multiman tag match here at a small show in New Zealand for IPW nz. Travis Banks is also in the match
As I’m getting older I can understand these guys ....When you love what you do. You can never give up..
Yeah but it comes a time when a man needs to hang up the wrestling boots. Basically retire and pass on the torch.

By far the saddest is the Dynamite Kid.
Ric Flair is a damn sad tragedy.
Nah your Mom giving birth was
He is the original prime example of living the gimmick TO MUCH
Hogan comes in at a VERY close second
But this is what happens when you make a singular person your centerpiece
It’s why the Attitude Era succeeded in that regard
For WWF at the time we had The Rock, Austin, Undertaker, and Triple H
WCW gave us Sting, Hogan, Ric, and NWO
Multiple main eventers to switch off from instead of one centerpiece used 24/7
Well, I never heard of a happy tragedy…

Number one should have been Andre the Giant. He was a physical mess for the last two years of his life and only participated in three-men tag teams in Japan in his final matches.
After that last match between Giant Haystacks (wrestling as Loch Ness) and the Giant (Paul Wight), Giant Haystacks returned to the UK for treatment for the Lymphoma that eventually killed him.
I would not be surprised if they do a Kurt Angle's Last Match event next. He's clearly not happy with how his career ended.

I was genuinely worried about his health and well being by the end of the match and I pray he doesn’t do any more 😢
I’ve never seen a more appropriate entry on to a list than Flair’s Last Match 😂😂
Sad stuff. Watching Dynamite Kid in the ring one last time was like looking at a propped-up cadaver.
Who's Freddy Krueger at the New Japan Pro Wrestling? Hilarious 😂
No Ric had bills long after a "retirement match" with Shawn Micheals. Especially when WWE let him go. Ever heard of alimony
Well that was depressing! Thanks guys!
You forgot to donate
It's insane how many wrestler died basically few days after their last match...
I mean hbk shouldnt have done that final match but i also cant blame him either from all reports it was one hell of a payday
Hard to believe it's been over a year since Flair's last farce. Jesus, that was depressing.
Shawn did a moonsault from the turnbuckle. He landed chest and face first on the outside. His face says it all.
I can already tell I'm not going to enjoy this list
Flairs problem is that he became so addicted to being important and the crowds and being Ric Flair he can’t just be Richard and enjoy life without it
Shawn Michaels said something about that too I think
It's more than an addiction, it's all he's ever known - it's his entire life. In many ways it would be impossible to separate Ric Flair from Richard Fliehr, especially for himself. That's one of the reasons he's probably the greatest wrestler of all time. Richard Fliehr stopped playing the character of Ric Flair a very long time ago. He became him instead.
Well, that and the fact that Fliehr spends money faster than he can earn it. I suppose five ex-wives and all that alimony might have something to do with it.
Shawn and Ric had the 2 best career ending matches. Such a shame neither let them stay that way.
It's fascinating how many times good ol Double J Jeff Jarrett was included in this list....
Surely Misawa’s last match is the most depressing…
Boss man getting laughed at in his last match and then just dying a few weeks later is pretty depressing too
Silver King vs Juvi is pretty depressing as well.
yeah I feel like anyone legit dying in a match probably should be #1 like Misawa or Perro Aguayo Jr
Misawa had no ragrets.
I audibly said "Ew" when you said Mr Perfect's last match was against David Flair.
Considering HBK's Saudi match was just with his long time best friends without any real consequences for lost of money, I consider that match more of an epilogue if you will and his last official match was still Taker at WM26
The way Ric Flair is, I wouldn't say its his last match until he actually passes away or is rendered physically incapable of entering a ring.
Oh nah, he’s done dude. He is physically incapable. It’s amazing how much he aged in 10-12 years. He didn’t even look like the same person in the ring compared to 2008. There’s nothing left in the tank for a 75 year old man physically.
