It is absolutely dangerous if you're not fully alert and active. Doesn't matter if you deliver or receive, wrestling moves depend on all parties coordinating and timing their body movements tightly together to maximize showiness and minimize injury. If your posture goes wrong mid-move, you're risking injury to one or both people. Hardcore Holly causing hus own neck to break by sandbagging Brock Lesnar is an example I watched as a kid.
Kerry Von Erich at _SuperClash III_ belongs here, if only for Von Erich blading his arm and trying to disguise it with his robe. Jerry Lawler works the cut into the match, and it's Lawler that arguably salvages the match into something decent.

Remembering a passage from his 1st auto-biography, I was surprised as hell that anyone could think it safe for Mick Foley to wrestle for as long as he did. The passage mentioned detailed his concern over one of the bursar in his spine, which seemed oddly white compared to the other greying bursars on the image. He was shocked and more than a little stunned to learn that the white bursar was, in fact, the only healthy one in his entire spinal column, and the greying of the other was a sign that each was damaged to varying degrees. That he is still able to walk these days is nothing short of a miracle.
There are probably a number of honorable mentions to this list, but here's one I just recently found out about: "Quick Draw" Rick McGraw wrestled in a show opening match at Madison Square Garden on 6/28/1982 against Johnny Rodz, and...well, let's just say Rick was unfit to perform. The truth is, he looked wasted, and stumbled his way through what ordinarily would have been at least a decent match. In fact, he was likely booked to win that match, but the ref and Rodz called an audible and Rodz pinned him. (The entire show is here on TH-cam.)
I love how everybody says he was thrown off the top of the cage onto the table. NOPE, Taker just had his hands on him, and Foley jumped. That just tells you how believable it was!!
It was probably a combination of being thrown and jumping. Either way Mick had to be in control of where he landed because if he'd have missed that table and landed on the floor then he would have been killed.
If anything, the Matt Hardy one is probably the worst since it happened after everyone was well aware of the risks of concussion/CTE. The ref had put up the X sign and yet for some reason they carried on.
I'm surprised Jake the Snake Roberts in Heroes of Wrestling wasn't on the list as he was completely wasted and they had to bring in Yokozuna & King Kong Bundy to finish the match.
You should mention Hardcore Holly. On September 26, 2006, Holly received 24 stitches from WWE Doctor Ferdinand Rios in his back after suffering a severe laceration during an Extreme Rules match against Rob Van Dam when he landed on the metal railing of a table he was suplexing Van Dam out of the ring and through during an ECW show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. That was a hardcore performance!
It’s been said by many wrestlers that Vader also had a body oder that could leave a man dead. Rumor is he never washed that ring gear. Wow…. Imagine that stench.
My understanding of the Vader match is that Hansen hit him with a stiff shot, breaking the orbital bone of Vader's right eye. That's why his eye popped out several times during the match.
Eddie's gusher was sick. I heard the pay-per-view DVD got an 18s rating in the UK market, the only time ever a WWE video got this. That bladejob was worse than even the infamous Muta one.

Edit: Doing a little bit of research Breaking Point 2009 of all PPVs got an 18 on its DVD release, which is interesting to say the least as it was during early PG-era.
I’ve always wondered with the Bret/Perfect match…the way Bret absolutely torques that Sharpshooter…did that contribute to Perfect’s injury or was that just selling?
I steer clear of Jeff Hardy still. Not sure i want to celebrate a junkie. Def hope he snaps out of it someday before he joins the massive list of wrestler overdoses. Then he would just be typical. Vader and Mankind were legit tough as hell. Popping your eye back in or falling 15ft and continuing is just badassery.
Misawa should have made the list, the man died in the ring after taking a back body drop. Turns out his neck had been ground to dust due to years of relentless wrestling and not wanting to hang up his boots.
What I'm trying to figure out is, how did the facepaint come in with Jeff if he was high as a kite? He must have arrived at the arena somewhat sober, put on his paint and then gotten wasted in-between that time and when he was scheduled to perform. I don't know how you would be able to apply that stuff if you were as high as he was when he came down to the ring. I don't know if that makes it worse. The fact that he was actually sober when he got to the arena, and then got high backstage so he couldn't perform. That suggests to me that he could control his use and it wasn't just like an addiction or compulsion. If you're addicted, you're probably not going to be able to wait until you get to work before doing drugs. So he had the willpower to apply his paint and then got high? That's not addiction. That's horrible judgment and a blatant disregard for the business.
according to Eric Bischoff, that is the case he was fine when he showed up for the show, was fine when he went to his locker room, and then come 30 minutes before the main he was fucked up. And that claim as been backed up by other TNA staffers, including Dixie Carter.
Before i watch I bet #1 is Jeff Hardy at Victory Road 11, who wasn't even on the same planet, let alone in the Impact Zone! Edit: Why am I not surprised?

He was shocked and more than a little stunned to learn that the white bursar was, in fact, the only healthy one in his entire spinal column, and the greying of the other was a sign that each was damaged to varying degrees. That he is still able to walk these days is nothing short of a miracle.
Yeah, that Matt Hardy match shouldn't have resumed... Just say Sammy knocked him out and have him taunt Matt about it until he's fit for a rematch.
Vader was an absolute beast! It's just my eye, it'll be fine 😂😂😂
Number 1 to me is every wrestler at over the edge after Owen fell
I agree , I know the motto is usually "the show must go on" but in this case it should have been "this show stops now"
If anything, the Matt Hardy one is probably the worst since it happened after everyone was well aware of the risks of concussion/CTE. The ref had put up the X sign and yet for some reason they carried on.
My heart hurts for Jeff. He was in such a bad place during that time. I’m glad he’s doing better now.
I saw the infamous matchbin Ft Worth where Kerry Von Erich was as wasted as Jeff Hardy and he wrestled Ric Flair.
I'm surprised Jake the Snake Roberts in Heroes of Wrestling wasn't on the list as he was completely wasted and they had to bring in Yokozuna & King Kong Bundy to finish the match.
AEW letting Matt continue and TK doubling down later on Twitter that Hardy was fine really is wild.
I'm actually surprised by how coherent and articulate Foley still is til this day to be honest
Vader's is horrific. What an absolute machine...
Ok next time someone decided to talk about the incident with Vader I'm skipping it to go to the next list
Sabu after tearing open his bicep? 3 words, " Here, Lizard, Lizard". Nia Jax every time
It’s sad that Jeff Hardy is still having these issues
He likes to smoke ice💨
@@Useryuuihdaeg no he drinks jack Daniels
Glad to see Jeff make such a great turnaround and get his shit together
It’s been said by many wrestlers that Vader also had a body oder that could leave a man dead. Rumor is he never washed that ring gear. Wow…. Imagine that stench.
surprised not to see scott hall on this while wasted in wcw
My understanding of the Vader match is that Hansen hit him with a stiff shot, breaking the orbital bone of Vader's right eye. That's why his eye popped out several times during the match.
4:41 ummm unprotected chair shots….? Have you not seen taker get his hand up 2 feet above his head to protect himself lol
Eddie's gusher was sick. I heard the pay-per-view DVD got an 18s rating in the UK market, the only time ever a WWE video got this. That bladejob was worse than even the infamous Muta one.
There have been quite a few WWE videos rated 18 in the UK, King of the Ring ‘98 being one of them
@@2rare2die100 I owned Judgement Day 2002, Summerslam 2003 and Wrestlemania 20 on physical; all three of them were rated 18 as well.
It would be awesome if this list was just that Jeff Hardy TNA match and then 9 randomly selected John Moxley matches
0:36 wait why did he apologize for saykng hospital? Anyone know?
I love Mr Socko being on Mount Rushmore
I think of Sandman taking a double dose of acid before going against Sabu in their stairway to hell match
I’m surprised Cody isn’t on this list, he really shouldn’t have been allowed to compete at HIAC
I'm more than half convinced that Foley is immortal. He could shrug off shit that would kill a terminator
Otherwise known as the "Jeff Hardy Award".
The Mass Transit Incident needs to be on this list
Before i watch I bet #1 is Jeff Hardy at Victory Road 11, who wasn't even on the same planet, let alone in the Impact Zone!
Edit: Why am I not surprised?
Based on the footage provided it was Vader's right eye, not his left one.
Thanks 🙏
Let's not forget that after mankind finished his hell in the cell match he still interfered in the main event between Austin and Kane in their first blood match.
I heard about one where Alica Fox was drunk it a live event but she was still allowed to wrestle
Jeff Hardy, New Jack, Sandman, Raven, RVD and nearly all the ECW roster could have been enough to make a top 50 times workers shouldn't have wrestled, EACH
Never know how Eddie didn’t pass out. Adrenaline is one hell of a thing.
I was at the jeff hardy one 😂😂
The kurt angle being took to the back on the stretcher and coming back out was a planned part of the match. It just happened that the table actually broke and angle got legitimately knocked out and suffered a concussion
Feel like an argument for all the wrestlers after Owens accident should be on this list.
