Gotham Volleyball Coming Out Stories

In the spirit of National Coming Out Day several members from the Gotham Volleyball League share their coming out experiences. If you're considering coming out, you're not alone. About 2.3 percent of Americans identified themselves as gay or bisexual in a National Health Interview Survey. Keep in mind that everyone’s experience is unique! After thinking it through you may decide not to come out - and that’s ok too.

That’s true, but you must remember that society at large is set up for the (gorgeous) straight men and they are defined as straight until they voice or display otherwise, so there’s no need to come out sexually when you are what everyone assumes to be already.

Nobody needs to know the detail about what anyone else does to get off, PRECISELY, but sexuality’s far more than the pleasure of sex acts, and it does to some extent influence sexual identity and identity politics; if I’m gay I would never, EVER reveal to you any detail about what I do to get off (it’s none of your business and you might be shocked or even secretly aroused...I don’t know, I don’t care), but the moment I lived my life in a “normal” way and did “normal” things (such as living with my same-sex spouse, marrying them, being affectionate with them in ways that are acknowledged as extremely normal and acceptable without notice for every straight couple), you would instantly have a strong opinion about it, most likely. That is why you need to know, to some extent.
