I've ridden on at least both RM24 and RM30 back when they were in regular revenue service, and the final years of their long haul service, I'm not sure when RM18 was permanently laid up. One was from Tauranga to Auckland, another was from Matamata to Auckland, and another was the Auckland City Express from Central to Papakura when Veolia was using them. I remember them well when I rode them from the BOP, very comfortable, quiet and fast, awfully fast for such a small train. Back then the seats had wool linings on them. Wool breathes better than leather and does not stain, the same reasons why Toyota used them in the Century limousines. I don't recall having a meal on the trips, but definitely had snacks and drinks. It was such a lovely service that it'd be nice to have them back on the main line
