Camping like you two do is the way to go in my humble opinion, you get the most of your surroundings and 10 times more romance than in a mo' or hotel. Way to go you lovelies, have it good.👍
This is not how we normally roll. Had to strap it since I could only get three tyres in the back (with our camping gear in there. And since the eight-spoke offset is so high the centre bolt obviously doesn't reach (old RR rims are the best), so a simple ratchet strap was the solution and worked rather well on our 500km return trip. No movement, partially due to the four rubber mounts as well, and the previous owner had thoughtfully added the strap eyes just for this purpose.😊😅
I have a 235/85 16 on the bonnet which is fine on most roads but I’m concerned the metal will tear or fracture on bad corrugations which I will encounter next year. I was thinking of some sort of structural brace to mitigate this.
@@simonbarclay9507 We have a couple of bonnet latches on the front corners to keep it centred of course. No metal fatigue that I can see except a crack near the right hand A pillar where you would stand to get on the roof (done and patched by previous owner 🤷). If it helps you here's another video I did a while ago that is on the exciting subject of pop rivets but shows the bonnet quite clearly th-cam.com/video/0EjIRrulJNo/w-d-xo.html

Better than an artificial five star hotel any day.
Basic camping any day! Have you had any issues with your bonnet mounted spare?
