Phil was in the management team. And they voted for this as a team. He said this himself in an interview. That he is also responsible for that decision they made as a team.
Don Mattrick was the Fall guy so Microsoft threw him under the bus. So they can salvage the brand.
But it has been almost 10 years since Phil took leadership.
The first 5 years you can kind of forgive him. But after that he had nothing to show for. Not even one game that had the potential to be a game of the year contender.
So yeah Don Mattrick damaged the brand and Phil Spencer finished it off.
Buying a “live service” game is like buying a lottery ticket. There’s basically 0 chance of getting anything and we should be shaming and laughing at people that buy them.

Thing is Redfall devs are/were adamant that Redfall wasn't a live-service game and wasnt advertised to be one even though it did feel like one with how lacking it was. Just because it had planned future DLC doesn't mean it was live-service.

People always like to say it's because it would make the game M rated and reduce sales. I don't believe that would actually be the case. Halo 2 and 3 were some of the biggest games of their time. An M rating didn't stop them. An M rating doesn't stop GTA, Call of Duty, Baldurs Gate, or Elden Ring from being massive successes. Why would it stop Halo?
@@HomerSimpson-os4iv How heavily do they enforce M-ratings on their platforms? Like, does your xbox account know your age, and not let you play them?
Prior to accounts and such, M-rated just meant get your parents or friends to buy it for you. If anything, it added to the allure.

Isn't there a consumer law that means if they don't release sold goods within a specific amount of time, people can request refunds.
Pretty sure that's why the Doom Eternal OST was rushed out, cause id announced it in the collectors edition and sold it before it was even worked on

Even Forspoken which didn’t do that great commercially or critically still received DLC only a few months after launch which was also a story expansion too btw.
This just sounds lazy tbh. Even if Redfall sucks in the eyes of many it seems a bit scummy for those who forked the extra money for the most expensive edition of the game.
This is true. Even the Saints Row reboot received THREE DLC expansions several months after it launched (the first and third DLCs expanded the story AND provided new cities with new stuff in them and the third DLC even provided a new ending to the entire game which concluded one of the plot lines that hadn't been previously resolved. Meanwhile, the second DLC was more of an extra death match arena style area with new playable characters and secret bosses). It's screams laziness that the Redfall team never put any DLC out during an entire year.

Still can't believe Arkane made this garbage... I'm guessing all the Prey devs are gone? Or is this simply what happens when a large corporation forces you to make a game by committee?
Well, the Devs at Arkane didn't even want to make this game, but ZeniMax forced them to, by then Microsoft bought ZeniMax/Bethesda, and Microsoft isn't known for their management, so Redfall gets delayed and delayed, but finally pushed out, the teams didn't have good communication with each other, and that's how we got Redfall, and i think that's the reason why recently Microsoft has been changing management in their owned studios.
They fire white men and hire more diverse demographics into their spots. For the DEI agenda.
Anyone and everyone Microsoft aquire will no longer be the same as they were previously. This is because making games to *fill a service* is not the same as making games to *sell*
Qaulity will inevitably drop because release scheduling and simply providing "filler" content become top priority.
The practice of intentionally releasing broken and unfinished games and fixing and finishing development months or years after release will flourish on GamePass.

I tried this a couple of weeks ago thinking it couldn’t have been that bad. Got stuck in the environment, got killed and then had to go all the way back to the safe house, so I deleted it from the hard drive😂😂
the biggest asset XBox has is not their IP, but their talent.

As of now (2024.05.07. 10:17) Borderlands 1 GOTY has 68 players, the Enhanced version 224. BL 2 got 1357, BL3 2076...
I mostly have an Xbox because it’s what I grew up with. I wouldn’t actively choose the console now… 90% of the games I play are multi platform. Most of the exclusives that I try are either old staples or dead on arrival.

You talked yesterday about this and today we found Microsoft closed this studio, maybe that DLC might never come
It’s probably easier for them to just issue refunds to everyone who brought the game than to pay the salaries of individuals to make the dlc.

Me and my fiance love this game - the only issue is it is lacking some polish. Now the 60fos update and fixes helped - but we put it aside for a bit expecting updates that bring it up to par with what we see this game can be. It has been way too long for anything SO I can only imagine they are working on something big considering the commitment they have to the game and the amount of time they have been silent, other than some very odd teases or posts on their socials. I am fully expecting a massive rework of some stuff including the AI. Not sure when this will be however but looking forward to a surprise that makes us re-install. Fun game, very much more in coop, with potential. It just needs that No Mans Sky attention.
I come here to watch Luke play with his fidget toy. Anyways love the content, keep doin what you do.

This is a game that had a couple of things that sounded like it could be fun, but it just ran short on everything. Its beyond repair and nobody would even care if they brought a dlc or anything
One smart Lawyer could make ALOT of money by uniting these people and sueing Bethesda

I'm one of those poor saps that really likes this game. My greatest fear is that they pull all support for it and that it becomes unplayable when the servers are pulled offline, because it requires that connection. :(
This is entirely possible given the news this morning (May 7th) that Xbox has closed Arkane Austin.

I'd understand if they didn't open the game so they could focus on another project, but it's bizarre that they didn't deliver, before that, the DLC that people paid for! What happens to these people's money?
welp microsoft just laid off a bunch of guys from this studio so I guess there might be no changes any time soon
And now there is no studio to make the DLC. I expect Microsoft to give back refunds at this point.
