  • Here’s a quick way to add power outlets to the back of your GX470. I did one 12v and 2 USB ports but you can do whatever configurations you want. Let me know if you have questions.
    Here’s the 3 parts I bought to do the job.

    Do you have any recommendations on videos to watch on how to learn this type of electric modification overall? I love seeing how everyone on here, Ih8mud, and the FB group modify their rigs but I have 0 experience with electrical but would like to learn.

      Where are you located? I bet there is someone on the local GXOR chapter that would help you. If you are in Southern California, hit me up.

    Nice job. Can you explain where did you tab into the body for the ground. I would like to tab locally to rear end for a ground. Can you show exactly where. I am temped to sand a body section to expose metal and tap a 10 mm hole for the ground. Not something I want to do because there are many location that I can tap into.

      I found a bolt and attached to that so it was secure. I no longer have the gx so I can’t look exactly where. 🥹

    Nice DIY. What gauge wire did you use from the battery? I’m about to do something similar but plan to add a powerpole outlet for my fridge and solar power generator. If you did the same you might get much more reliable connection while off-roading to you rockpals gen than the finicky 12 volt cigarette outlet.

      Not a bad idea. It’s been solid so far but I don’t like how the plug sticks out. I used 10 gauge.

    The setup looks really clean. I would like to do the same in my rear cargo area. It would've been nice to see how you wired the plugs to wire that leads to the battery and how you hooked up the fuse. Just from someone that knows nothing about wiring. Thanks!

    • @TeslaOverland
      @TeslaOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a wiring diagram in the instructions that come with it. Just put the negative terminal to a bolt in the back area where you are installing the ports. For the fuse you run one end to the battery and the other end to the wire that you are running back for your ports. Super simple.

      The backs of all those ports have two spade connectors like images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61sf0gmOTLL._AC_SL1500_.jpg On close connections like that, I would wire in the 12v port first, then daisy chain the USB off of it.

      The old battery was a 240 watt hour. This one is 520. More than double. I wish I had a 1000. 😂 running a 60L fridge in hot weather takes a lot of juice.
      I still use the nijabatt at camp for other things.

    Thank you for the video on this install. I plan to do the same on my GX. Is 10 feet wiring long enough to run from the battery to the location you have? Lastly, please do a video on the installation of the USP port to the 2nd-row seat at the center console. Thank you!

      To any nut connected to the body.

    Another possible configuration is to put the outlets on the removable plastic panel just to the right of where you mounted the outlets. I have my fuse panel mounted inside that compartment with my outlets on the panel. It allows very easy access for further modifications and adjustments. I never used that compartment, anyway.

    • @TeslaOverland
      @TeslaOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought about that but I keep things like a first aid kit, moleskin, a fire extinguisher in there. I didn’t want the kids reaching in there with live wires.

    • @JCintheBCC
      @JCintheBCC 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TeslaOverland All good points. I've got all my emergency and first aid supplies in drawers in the back, and my little one is strapped down in a car seat when we're traveling. If she can even reach that compartment, other things have gone very wrong.

    How did you decide on the gauge of wire to use? I was about to do same set up but was going to use 12/14 gauge.

    • @TeslaOverland
      @TeslaOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, depending on how much power you want to run back there I wouldn’t do anything smaller than a 10 gauge. I was actually wondering if that was too small.

    • @kevinstrident
      @kevinstrident 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TeslaOverland 10 gauge can carry 30 amps. For example, the biggest portable compressor from ViAir only pulls 23 amps, which is still less than the 85% rating you'd want if it were running ALL the time. 10 gauge is plenty!
