Know exactly what you’re saying. I left my job to be a full-time reseller but not eBay, doing antique shows, flea markets etc… I started to miss the stability. Things got tough so I went back to the same job and what do you know? It sucked just as much before! Made the decision to leave again to do primarily eBay. Taking it much more seriously than I ever have before and honestly haven’t looked back. When it gets tough now I remind myself that even on my best day at that job it doesn’t beat the bad days as a reseller…
I feel like I’m burning the candle at both ends right now. 🕯️Full time reselling plus doing social media is a lot . But I like it so I’ll keep on burning 🔥
There's a big difference between a hobby and a business. If it's a hobby great. If it's a business you will wear many hats. Social media, marketing, bookkeeping etc can pull some of the joy. If those things don't work for you maybe contract some of those duties on Fiverr, Upwork or a local teen who can't stay off social media 😉
It can be very hard to 'get away' from it, notifications and questions and whatever to respond to even when you're 'off'. But overall my work/life balance is so much better doing this. And you're right, I think a lot of new resellers see the glamour shot version of this on IG or TH-cam and are shocked by how hard it actually is to be successful!
I agree with your conclusion 100% if its just for money you're not going to last, selling books is about how much I love books, I was a librarian and worked at a book store for a combined 15 years of my life, I like getting books into peoples hands. I recognize the people only in it for the money at book sale, I recognize them by how they act not by their faces, because I only ever see them once
Thanks for this. I just happened to see it on a day when I was pretty close to applying for a standard paycheck type of job. I've been a book reseller for years, and exclusively self-employed for the past fifteen. This has been one of the hardest years, maybe the hardest. Things are getting more and more expensive. Those bills are getting higher and higher. After terrific years in 2020-21 and my second best ever in 2023, things have taken a marked turn for the worse this year and it's starting to feel unsustainable. Encouragement like this from someone who's in the same boat is reaffirming and makes me want to keep going - and feel that I'm right to keep going. Again, thank you.
I just haven’t been selling anything in about a month and I put in a good deal of effort…I think my page suffered from lack of focus and now trying to regroup
A lot of the time I have to have the hard discussions with myself about why inventory isn’t moving. Most of the time it’s just not a good item and or I have it priced way too high or my pictures suck. That said eBay loves it when you list a lot and send/accept offers.
Oh yea, those 30 second reels gives the false sense that reselling is easy. Once they see how much work is needed to be put into ot and when they do put thay work and see no sales, they get discouraged and quit because they are comparing themselves to someone whos been doing it for years. I fell for it when i started reselling lol. Ive always been part time but alot of people think I'm full time for the amount of time i put into it. Ive been burned out so many times but i have to keep going to make sure my daughter has everything she needs.

Yes they stick out very easily
Well said, so true about "purpose". Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I think you are spot on Katey! Another great video. Of course any video with Brendell is icing on the cake!
Hahaha thanks!! 😊 yes it’s a topic we need to talk about more.

I love this perspective since I feel so new to reselling with only 5 years under my belt. I’m proud of you. Keep going!

Re-homing books : that was a nice turn of phrase. I like it.
Also, I like that you picked up your son in this video. Hard to do that in banking !
It helps me remember why I’m doing this besides just “liking” books: appreciate you watching!

Yup I did too at one point. I took a step back and decided I wanted this but doing it my own way. And ignored the other noise
