Thanks for sharing. I'm also enjoying watching Mel's move on Back from Burnout. I'm getting ready to make some changes in my life/career, and I totally agree with what you are saying about picking your poison and remembering there is always going to be stress in life no matter what you do. I think the key is knowing your "why" and always remembering it when things get hard. Good luck I always enjoy your videos! ❤
Piss poor video
U all don’t know how good his books are
Probably not
Katie, I wish you all the best. Thank you for your honesty on your journey. It will and is getting better.
Thanks Lisa! I agree and appreciate the kind words.
Katie you are very good and seeing all sides of the good things and the struggles in life. I too feel that way. Your positive attitude is inspiring. Thank you for this and for your love of books and sharing that info.
I do try to stay grateful! Thanks for watching Dolly I’m glad you found value.
Thank you so much! I can really relate! I spent the whole day working on a plumbing nightmare and didn't get any of the things listed that I'd planned. And it does seem like this year has just been that way a lot! But you're so right, and this video was really encouraging, so Thanks again!
I’m glad it was relatable and wishing you some stress free time! 🖤
@KateyReads thank you, you too!
🤗🤗
Hey Pat! Thanks for the love
Life is tough at times. I hope things continue to look up and the difficult times are few and far between. Realize the strength within yourself as it's never easy getting through difficulties. I'm glad you have good people around you. Best wishes.
Thank you! I have much to be thankful for. And abundant inventory. It could always be worse.
Ah, sweetie. It's hard to be raise two kids and keep a home. Life isn't easy, but we can do this. I feel like I really k ow you and that's a gift. Just keep keepin' on.
I appreciate that!! Thank you for the kind words. I have much to be thankful for too!
Great video thank you I just bought a house full of Jewish books bibles, antique, vintage, contemporary how has your luck been with these ?
All offended people have all purchased a bible from someone.
@@VintageReplay good point!
Try Biblio (routes listings to Alibri and AbeBooks), and also Ecrater, Ebid, and Mercari (these three untested).
Hey Katey, do you have a video of how to prepare a library book to sell on eBay? I have several and I need to know if I should remove stickers, remove the plastic coverings or white out information about the library stamped inside, etc. Have you made a video about how to prepare a library book for resale? If not, can you tell me if you do any of these things to library books before you resell them or just leave them as they are? I do know that I must tell the potential buyer they are library books and list them as ex libris. Thanks for your help. Love your channel!
I always sell mine as is! People specifically seek out ex library sometimes or don’t mind its ex library. I would not do all the work of removing stickers and mylar protectors as you are likely to damage it than add value. This is my opinion. I really recommend selling it exactly as is.
@@KateyReads Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated!
It is a nice store, but the pricing got crazy at one point. They scan most of the good stuff and send it in for their media/online group to sell. Unfortunately, they never price down and only have one "sale" per year. The old stuff is pulled and sent back to distribution and gaylorded up for bulk buyers. Best part: The staff are super amazing here. They are thinking of modeling this in the Detroit area, so I'm told.
I can definitely see them doing that!! Agreed the staff were great.
Want to blow your mind? Search for “Warhammer book” and sort by “Price + postage: highest first” The Siege of Terra collection is a limited edition set of individually signed Warhammer Horus Heresy books. These are limited print run books that will likely never be printed in this form again.
Hi Katey! Wanted to come visit your channel, sub & say 👋HELLO!! ❤ wow your microphone is so professional!
Thanks Heather!! Subbed to you as well. Hahaha one of the few things I do professionally 😂

I’ve been selling books and media on eBay part time for almost a year and a half. I’m considering adding Amazon FBA to the mix in 2025, but I’m feeling somewhat subscription averse. When I look at the monthly cost of a seller account, plus all the software subscriptions for scanning, historical sales data and listing I get concerned. What would you recommend as a starting point in order to minimize my monthly expenses until my income starts to justify it?
This is my latest opinion as I’ve restarted with this journey in a different way than I did in 2019. Amazon requires start up costs. You have to be in the red from the beginning. Even if you used all free tools, you’re going to have the monthly subscription cost and the cost of sending (shipping) your first few boxes into FBA. I recommend allocating a portion of your eBay funds to the amazon expenses so in January you have some cushion funds to get started and know that it can take a good 30 days to start seeing consistent profit after all the start up costs on Amazon. It’s a pay to play platform (FBA) there’s really no other way around it. And it’s best to have the right tools from the very beginning in my opinion!! That said the BASICS are: store sub, a printer, scanning software and listing software. Beyond that you can explore fancy label printers, blue tooth scanners, and keepa. Again, all just my honest opinion.
Good vid. Amazon gets a little more difficult to sell on each month. Recently, Amazon stopped ungating most books, demanding invoices for at least 10 copies. If you are a veterano seller (I've been selling Amazon and other sites since 2014), you probably got ungated on most major publishers in the past. But many smaller presses and imprints (which often have good values) that you find in the field are gated even for old-time sellers where before, they would not have been. This would make sense if you were trying to list a book as "New"; it makes no sense in selling used, often out-of-print copies. It's frustrating, and is becoming an entry barrier for new sellers. You can try selling on RI, eBay, Pango, Mercari, Facebook, your own website, etc. but none have the customer base or sales velocity of Amazon, or the ability to use repricing software. There are also increasing risks in selling textbooks on Amazon (and other sites) due to the law firms with which the major publishers are contracting to identify purported counterfeit sellers and report them to Amazon - which can quickly lead to the suspension of your Amazon account. You can also sell books through the U.S. branch of Ziffit instead of shipping to the U.K., by the way - just click on the little British flag at the top of the Ziffit page (GB comes up as the default) and change it to the American flag. (I've started selling on Booksrun as well as SBYB and Ziffit, all are honest and efficient.)
Yes totally agree. All the things you mentioned are why I had been avoiding amazon for so long. I’ll never leave eBay in the book market. Globally it’s unmatched. But Amazon has more US buyers willing to pay UP for an item than eBay. Amazon prime sets the tone in my opinion for those kind of luxury shoppers. Good to know about books run!!!! Thank you :) appreciate the insight.
I inherited my grandpa's collection of Louis l'amour books! I'm going through and sorting them now haha, I can't wait to read them 😁
Awww that’s awesome!
Thank you Katy and Katey, thus was awesome!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff! I did some of these things when I started reselling in 2021, and some I will add to my business once I move =]
Yay! I’m glad it added value.
I got $45 for a Lowrider Mag
That’s wasup!!! My dad was at an estate sale once and they were giving stuff away (it was the last day) and they had a ton of playboy and low rider mags!
@ mine was an early 90’s one with 2poc drawings I’m in the lookout
Thank you for always helping us find new places to sell our books 🤗
Thank you for the support and watching!
Great vid! Definitely gonna check out mercari!
Awesome! Thank you!
since when did Mercari get media mail? i've been waiting for that option.
No clue but it’s there! It’s a little overpriced since 1lb is $4.63 and the lowest option I think they show is $4.99 but I don’t get the funds Mercari gives me the label so I guess it just is what it is.
Books...😉
📚
curious to know thoughts on vintage paperbacks a lot of them are longtail low dollar items I find them cheaply at library some dead author's gain following from TH-cam videos, but many are meh would you recommend a platform for those 5 dollars sells Thanks
Yes Mercari since there are no seller fees and no relisted fees like on eBay. If it sits for a long time you just have to be comfortable being long term storage. Also bundling a bunch of the same author together may help move them faster.
All seller fees on mercari, simply moved to buyers. As a buyer you pay a service fee of 10-15%, plus tax, plus shipping, plus cc transaction fee. A $15 item with $7 shipping runs around $30. My sales went from daily to a couple a month with yhis change.
Yes you’re right on fees. However, I know many that are doing amazing now on Mercari. Or staying consistent with what they were before. Everyone has a different experience just like eBay and FBA and everywhere else. The good thing is there is no fee to list and try it and no fee to end all listings if it doesn’t work out. Never have eggs in one basket anyways. Appreciate your feedback. I know some haven’t had a good experience.

Thank you for for doing this video. I started selling Amazon earlier this year and really got going with shipments in the last two months. I'm focused more on media but also Nintendo and Lego and some books. I've sold more on Amazon in a few months than I've sold on eBay all year. I did sell on Amazon many years ago prior to FBA. It's a whole different world now. I've always had so many questions and concerns about selling on Amazon and got so much out of this and look forward to you and Koty chatting again in the future. For now, I will carry on with a different perspective about storage fees, high-priced books, etc. Thank you again
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Does Amazon pick the price of the book if you do fba?
Kind of, it’s based on market and historical sales. Now amazon will make a listing inactive if its currently common price is $23 and you try to list yours for $150.
This was extremely informative and much appreciated. I currently sell books on eBay, and now I'm in the process of setting up a FBA account. I like the fact that for average selling books I don't have to take time to take photo's like I do on eBay for books with greater rarity. Also, thanks for dissuading me from going the FBM route. I assumed that the storage fees would eat up my profits, however, I have over 2k books to send in, and I think my inventory will offset the fees. Thoughts?
Absolutely will. There is up front cost yes. Signing up, shipping to send it in, but once the sales start happening usually within a few weeks or a month it all becomes worth it. Please use a scouting software though. Scoutly scout IQ book pro jungle scout, something that will help you get data on the items before you send in that much inventory!
Kody is talking about 50, 60, 70 dollar books as being his target selling. But I find almost no books like that. I work to find 15-20 dollar books. I should also add that I have a dead pile because my husband, who recently lost his vision, refused to let me dispose of his books ( and he has over 1000 of them.) And now we can sell thrm. And a lot of those books are listed on Ebay as 10-15. 5 dollar books go to our library book sale unless I can bundle them.
My average book price on Amazon in $18-$23. Totally manageable you just have to focus on volume with that average price too. Death piles are hit and Miss, my point was more don’t go spending for FBA and take weeks to list them because the price may be very different by then and then you’re mad or discouraged.
I was told not to sell sci-fi & fantasy paperbacks but they have become my most popular seller while not my most profitable, but worthwhile on eBay. Are they profitable on FBA ?
They can! I just send in some Neil Gaiman ex library to FBA. Low profit $4-$7 but I send it all in. All adds up.
Oh I’m excited to watch this!
The pallet of books behind Koty looks interesting 🤔
@@josh_graffno idea what you’re talking about 😅
Thanks man!!!
Fun video! Good info! 😮
Thank you!
So helpful.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you
Can anyone tell me how I can remove an oil and turmeric stain from a book cover plsssss😭😭😭😭😭😭it's my sisters book tht I stained and she will kill me if she finds out, so someone pls help me out💀
@@ashley_miraculous_gacha2085 oh man. First, is the dust jacket paper or glossy? Removing oil from paper in general is hard since the fibers in paper are going to soak up that oil and quickly. If it’s a paperback book I would say you need to just buy her another copy :(
❤
Thanks Romie
Thanks Romie
So many great ideas....thank you for sharing all this knowledge ❤
Glad you like them!
There really is a market for everything ❤ and I definitely see the appeal of the handwriting for nostalgia purposes
Yes absolutely! I can appreciate it
Literally just bought a fashion history book *because* it was listed as having been from the personal collection of a costume historian and was annotated throughout the text.
Oh my gosh I love this! It reminds me of people who use to buy Clive Barker books just for his doodles inside.
Hi Katey - good video. I saw a rare book dealer who talked about selling books with annotations and inscriptions + Especially pertinent with generational differences.
Very interesting! Thanks for stopping by!
I sold a book about a dog breed and it had legal pad notes from the previous owners dog’s condition; people don’t mind when you’re honest about what they are getting; I love adding the flaws or materials or ISBN to title because some people don’t read description or look at all pictures; thanks always for sharing your experiences and research; continued blessings and success ❤
I looked that! I too try to include relevant info attached with a book. It truly can add value. This may be a good video idea too! Thank you for watching!
This is great info. I always knew that some people like the writing and inscriptions, but never thought to put it in my title. I usually just put it in my description. Some people like worn out, well loved, items.
I hope it helps! I’ll start using it more myself too.
This is really good advice to hear! I just got a set of 7 original 1st Wizard of Oz books from 1904 from an estate sale but a few are in very worn condition… I was hesitant about listing but I’ll try now!
Please do! I sell “acceptable” condition all the time.
i love selling vintage books with annoitations - i have 2 early 1950's arithmetic text books with some writing and formulas, even some old homework. i have a copy of Strawberry Girl with lots of teacher notes. oh and i just sold a copy of Codependent no more, which was heavily highlighted and also had notes i almost kept for me! lol book lovers understand there is this timeless connection with books, almost like a part of you is still in them after you read it <3
I love it!!
I have used the term "heavily annotated" but usually not because I think someone will be looking for that, more so they are forewarned that it isn't pristine. I've definitely been aware there's an interest, but I think its also very hard to find antique books with writing throughout, because books were much more precious in the 1800's. I love inscribed books myself, when I'm selling a book with an inscription, I also type it out in my description, especially if there are any names, I try to include the full name. There's always a chance an ancestor searching for books about their lineage will be searching the name and find it
I love that idea too. Ancestry searches are so underrated but a really profitable niche.
Just found your channel - thanks for this! I enjoy selling vintage religious books on Ebay. This is a great thing to look for.
Thank you for watching!! Glad you found value.
