Wouldn’t killing Stewie’s ancestor to make him cease to exist also cause Bertram to cease to exist?
They’re half brothers so they have at least one shared ancestor
I suppose it would depend on whether the ancestor he chose was on the Griffin side or the Pewterschmidt side. Killing a _Griffin_ ancestor destroys Stewie most directly by preventing _Peter's_ birth, which would also destroy Bertram. Killing a _Pewteschmidt_ prevents _Lois'_ birth, but leaves _Peter_ unscathed, and as long as Peter is born, Bertram should be fine while Stewie ceases to exist... unless, I guess, killing Lois' great-great-whatever also prevents or delays the birth or insemination of _Bertram's birth mother,_ whether because she's actually a distant relative or else the timeline change causes a chain reaction.
This point is put to Bertram in the episode. He decides it’s worth it.
You are correct sir it would cause an illogical paradox because It’s obvious the boys share that same ancestor given their overall physical structural similarities and arguable mental Similarities as well.
The real Paradox is that if Stewie never exists then Bertram can't go back in time to kill Da Vinci

Lois’s family background is of English-Jewish heritage, it’s even tied to the Pewterschmidt family since Lois’s grandparents were Jewish while Carter is a stereotypical W.A.S.P and is likely of English or if not, Northwestern European descent. Where does the Italian come from?
I love these little sci-fi journeys Family Guy and American Dad take every now and again
American Dad is the only one of the two shows I still like.

Stewie adresses this in the episode. Betram had to go further down history to erase the source of Stewie's DNA without erasing his own and he found that Da Vinci was the safest ancestor to kill, cause he lacked the genetic component that made Betram.
