  • A German tourist has scaled to the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza, risking damage to the corroding monument in the name of a great photo.
Andrej Ciesielski travelled from Munich to Cairo with the intention to scale one of the three giant pyramids.
He recorded the eight-minute climb to the top of the 4,500 year old pyramid on Monday, and the video has since gone viral.

I climbed this same pyramid in 2006. Paid a security officer $50 USD and he took me to the top and back down again safely.

queeneferterri I climbed a couple in Mexico. One was off limits, because excavation was still going on. You do get a very weird feeling at the top as you realize your seeing what ancient people saw.

yes, it's prohibited, but so amazing! These pyramides have seen ages, look at this blocks and imagine that thousands years ago someone's hands was touching it. Those people also lived, with their feelings, wishes, dreams... Probably some slave died of exhaustion, carrying these blocks. Of course, there were such cases. And now, thanks to international tourism, a usual guy from any country who maybe works in a usual office, buys bread, drives car, can touch these eternal stones! Does he have rights to do this? I'd say no, but.. why, he is also a human living on this planet. So, I know it's wrong, but so incredible.

This is the smallest pyramid, the pyramid of Menkaure. He states that in the beginning of the video, that he's about to climb the smallest pyramid. Also, you can tell by the little 3 step pyramids (mastabas) next to it that it is the pyramid of Menkaure. The middle one (which sits on higher ground so that it looks taller) is the pyramid of Khafre. That's the one that still has some of the smooth limestone casing remaining at the top. The rest of them have had the casing ripped off, although the Great Pyramid (the pyramid of Khufu) still has a small section remaining at the bottom. Also, I'm 5'6" tall, and standing next to the blocks of the Great Pyramid of Khufu (which I did in 2014), each one is almost as tall as I am. There's no way he's climbing that without some rock-climbing equipment...which I hope no one ever does!! Such disrespect to these ancient monuments! The pyramids have seen the rise and fall of many great empires. As the saying goes: "Man fears Time, but Time fears the Pyramids!" (Also, is it just me, or did the video seem speeded up in sections? Maybe to make it seem as though it only took 8 minutes?)

      Ma'at's Feather
A feather in you're research cap young Lady! I was fortunate enough to acquire a copy of Peter Tompkin's Secrets of the Great Pyramid soon after it's release in '71. @ age 20, & started the study of it during after duty hours, while assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. Dark side of the moon's release in '73 just added fuel to the fire for even more study of it, given the Pyramid structures on, and within, the album cover. Made a helluva cool 4 sided lampshade! Even the wife approved of it. Still, & often, i'll reference that same book & most likely will till the time when all truth having to do with it will be disseminated. God bless & keep you and your'es. 'Truth's Feather'

Laws were made to be broken and this ambitious young man certainly is no stranger to danger ...
A few years back I went to Angkor Wat Cambodia, Lots of piles of rubble about as the place has been rebuilt.
I searched around till I found a nice sized piece of carved Sandstone, it weighed about 8-9 KG's
I tossed it in my backpack, took it back to Seum Reep, cleaned it up, then took it back to Bangkok,
and finally back to Vancouver BC ..makes a great 800 Y.O. memento and a free one at that

Wow! Who hasn’t dreamed of doing that? That’s so wild, to be an “arm-chair” trespasser of ancient esoteric architecture. Without having to muster the fool’s gumption required to go ahead and step over the rope. I’ve done reckless things, regretfully, ...but climb the pyramids? I’d never dare!!! It holds so much meaning, to so many, that their collective appreciation demands respect. Don’t climb on a sculpture, or draw on a painting, or barge into temples, or mistreat Elders, or climb to the top of an 3800 year old Egyptian Pyramid.
But I’ve got to admit that this was my first, genuine “arm-chair” adventure. I really got to see what it’s like to stand on the top of a pyramid. Much steeper than I’ve imagined.

  • @ANILKUMAR-ic1ms

It is said that it took 20 years to construct pyramid and it contains 2.2 million blocks. This guy took aprox 70 steps to climb the top. Here is my calculation:
If each block is 5 feet in length & breath & if we think pyramid is square box 📦 ,then there should be around 6,16,000 block. Here is calculation. If base is 755 feet and height 755 feet ,then sq feet of pyramid is 5,70,000 square feet. If each block is 5 feet then 1,14,000 square feet area at bottom. NOW 1,14,000/5 =22000 blocks. At base there should be 22000 block( each weighing 5 ton)
& as per this calculation there should be 28 layer in height( one brick above another).🌋
Now assume how many people required to arrange 22,000 block each weighing 5 to 30 ton at base {1 elephant weigh 6 ton} {151 blocks in length & breath at base}. And finally 28 layers in height.

The description is wrong, the man in the video is clearly British, not German.
While a cool video, as a historian and Egyptology and classical history and archaeology student here in the UK. It is not a good idea to climb pyramids they are made of among other things, sand stone and mud bricks, as you can damage them. Some of them are hollow and probably contain mastaba chambers.
The pyramids are a huge testimony to human genius and cultural achievement.

Please leave these precious monuments be!!! They are not there for tourists to climb upon for ten minutes of self gratification at the top!! We can't have thousands of people climbing up these ancient stuctures every year and eroding the stone slabs over time. The Pyramids need to be preserved as much as possible so people in another 5000 years can marvel at the remarkable accomplishments of the Ancient Egyptians!!

he's got an ENGLISH accent and speaking with typical english slang, so why does the video description say he is german when he is clearly english ???
Also: I am not outraged and I dont think anyone is, except for Egyptian authorities.
But: I am completely in awe with what you did, amazing experience which will be in your memory forever ;)
