I think the thumbnail is slightly missleading using the "Works locally with Home Assistant" badge when that's not something Aqara advertises. Using the Homekit integration works, but it feels more like a workaround rather then actual support.
I understand what you're saying, but the statement is 100% true. Many many many companies don't advertise that their products work with HA, but they do, and the badge on the thumbnail let's people know that. Sorry if you thought it meant that's what Aqara advertises. Watching the video clears it up though 😁
Also, probably 50% of HA integrations are "workarounds"
@@makeitworktech Yeah no worries, I think you can still use the home assistant icon in your thumbnail, but maybe not the badge. From HA's documentation, the "Works with Home Assistant" badge are "enforced in an agreement signed by both Nabu Casa and and the manufacturer". So when a product has this badge, it means that they had worked with Nabu Casa to make sure it works, which I don't think is the case with the U50. There's a difference between workarounds and something that is official supported, workarounds can break and require community support to maintain, officially supported integrations are maintained in collaboration with OEMs which gives people more confidence that it'll stay working.

I’m a big Aqara fan and I have been using Weiser lock which the battery life was terrible. Hope this one is good 👍. Great video!

@@johnbaker95899 I have the U50 and it’s excellent 👍!! I haven’t had any issues (thankfully). I have it paired to Apple Home directly and in Home Assistant through Matter with the Aqara hub
Very cool, nice that it can also be rekeyed more easily unlike the U100. Really wish that it could be conntected directly to HA via Zigbee dongle (z2m or even zha) rather than through their hub and matter of via bluetooth with Homekit integration. It advertises as needing a zigbee 3.0 hub, so I'm just irked that I can't pair it directly to HA, :-(
Same, it would be really nice if we could do that. I circumvent their hub at all costs, but it's in their business interest to make products that use their hub I guess
i really want a lock that you can setup with home assistant to say "oh grandma is at the house" so it creates a code and sends a text to 'grandma' and then she can open the lock with a temporary code.... then once that code is used it'll just delete the code and it cannot be used by someone random to get in/out

Really nice, except that I rent. I can't take apart my lock and I don't think the owner would like being excluded from his building (I almost said "locked out").
Yeah, renting is a whole separate set of smart home devices! Good one! 😂
