Fitting a USB Charging Point to the Caravan

Hi Folks. In todays video I will be Fitting a USB Charging Point to the Caravan. This good will take a whole morning but will save you some money if you do it yourself.

Hi Phil, good neat job, however any additions should have a separate fuse , I know the circuit you’ve tapped in to is probably fused but better to be safe 😊

Hi Phil, I like a neat finish and that’s what you’ve achieved 👍. Swift’s usb sockets are wired to the 12v socket circuit which is exactly what you have done 👍. Agree the hardest part is fishing wires through awkward spaces but it’s worth it to get it right. Cheers Rob 😀

If you had looked on TH-cam a chap, fitted one from a 12 v spare wire at the rear of the boiler an power input, as I fitted the same a few years ago.

Amazing job. I'm not sure I'll attempt it on mine (Alpine 2) as it's clearly quite a lot of work. I have an additional Berber socket to go in, but that should be pretty much a plug and play affair. While I do love Swifts, it does annoy me how penny-pinching some of the build was. If only they had put in the infrastructure behind the blanking plate.

I did this last year but I had a 12volt wires under were I removed the chest yellow and white I’m surprised you don’t have that ? Mine is an Eccles sport

Hi Philip. I believe they are there but were buried in trunking which was a mare to get to. I spent ages trying to trace wires. As Rob pointed out the is a spare close to the boiler but this is needed for another up coming project. Many Thanks Phil👍🙂

Wouldn’t it have been easier to fit another mains socket in the blank, wired to the existing adjacent socket and just plug a phone charger in when you need it ?👍🏻

Hi Howard. Good question, I have used phone chargers in the past. However my Macbook charge plug is bulky and gets in the way when closing the blinds. I want a more sleeker finish as well. This usb socket fits flush, I was also concerned that I may overload the 230 volt circuit. I hope this makes sense. Thanks Phil👍🙂
