I think they both have their place. I have a thinner voice and absolutely love the M88. One of my all time favorite mics.

I've never really enjoyed the M88 and this video won't change that.

The m88 sounds on those sources like the re15 would end up with eq, so i pfrefer to not use eq-m88 it is

Being a guitarist that likes a bright sound, I like the Re15. How every in the few times I have tried mixing I realize everything can’t sit the same frequency. So I like the isolated sound of the Re15, but I bet there are situations where the M88 may fit better in a mix. I just don’t have the ears or experience to know when to choose one over the other.

i really want to invest in some vintage microphones. this channel has opened my eyes to how vintage mics is the sound i am always looking for. the thing is, i dont have the budget for anything high end. but i like the sound of cheap vintage mics better than expensive new ones. are there any mics you would recommend that are cheap? like anywhere from 100 to 300 dollars. thank you

You can’t go wrong with an EV 635A, and they’re not expensive. I also like the AKG D190 E. Also not expensive, but they have that vintage sound.

I’m so glad to hear that! Most of the microphones I post on my website are below $500 (with some exceptions of course). Look out for Electro Voice RE10/11’s, RCA SK46’s, and other oddballs.

Thanks so much! Any of the N(C) models have the alnico magnets. I believe they switched in the late 80's or early 90's.

Differences between these mics could very easily be made up for with a low eq cut or boost.
Realizing what the mics themselves sound like is crucial but use whichever makes you happy on a particular source or in whatever way you prefer to work.
