My screen randomly went black today. There was a VERY faint backlight around the middle of the screen and the Apple Logo/ password screen popped up. Typing the password didn’t work. Watched your entire video and was about to start disassembling my laptop but you mentioned the 2 resets at the end and I thought… what if I do that before? BAM it worked. Thank you so much! So happy I don’t have to spend money on this!

Just fixed my cable today. Thank you! great video. I got a quote from apple for fixing the LVDS cable (My screen would go black, have lines etc unless in the "right position") and they told me I would have to replace the entire screen for $1600 and replacing the cable wasn't an option. As a broke ass student there was no way in hell I could afford that or a new laptop. Thankfully, I came a cross your video after some research, a $20 LVDS cable, replacing it did the trick :) no more black screen or lines. I can finally stop taking lecture notes with my screen half closed!
Great video! This got my screen working again but only on the first 2 startups. After that it went blank again. Any idea what could possibly be the cause considering it worked temporarily?
Your videos are awesome thank you. I did a battery replacement on my 2015 15 inch MBP, was a nightmare, but I was careful, and everything is back together working EXCEPT the display. I have backlight but no screen. External displays work. What are the chances it's just the cable and not the cable port on the motherboard? Visually there's no damage but I may not have drained all the power after disconnecting the battery... what did you mean about possible damage to the connector port? :(
Hmmm did you check all the connections to the screen? If you messed with the lcd lvds cable before draining power, it could have killed the screen or the motherboard circuit to the screen :(
Hello, thank you for the video. I have the same problem on a macbook pro retina mid-2012. Overnight, black screen. When I turn it on, there is the start-up sound, the fans turn on, but no image on the screen. I projected light on the apple at the back, I do not see anything. The backlight keyboard doesn't work. The CapsLook button lights up sometimes. It doesn't seem to be reactivated, but it works if I press Enter then it stays on (green led). I plugged it into the HDMI port, and nothing. Nothing is happening on the second screen. I plugged in USBs and the led on the usb lights up for less than a second and then goes out. It has never fallen, and never had water on it. Never played games or work, only fb and yt, so that it heats up. I opened it, I cleaned, removed battery, and ssd. Nothing. I unplugged the video cable from the motherboard, nothing. What could be the problem? Thank you for your future answer. The next step is to disconnect the LV cable. I ordered a new one. I have already looked for a new motherboard, if no other solution.
Hi i noticed you answering questions so i will give a try. Why you did not replace LCD cable just reconected it? Cable cost like 20-30$? I'm watching your video as my screen started sometimes showing horizontal lanes that came from top to bottom for 1-2s then it is ok for 4-5s and appears again. Sometimes everything is ok and no lanes at all for many hours. Hard to diagnose it if problem is not constant but i think it could be this cable that connect LCD with motherboard. Especially that also ocasionally my screen "blinks" but so tiny that it is not noticable so much - it changes backlight for 0,5 (half) stop - brighter/darker evry second. Did you meet with such characteristic of retina problems? Thank you in advance.
Yours sounds like a bad LCD, not the cable. You'll know if the cable is bad if opening and closing the screen causes changes. The cable wasn't bad in my case, just loose, so why would I replace it?
@@ItsBinhRepaired if you could take a look th-cam.com/video/mrOZO0v2DNk/w-d-xo.html Unfortunatelly changing angle of LCD doesnt change things. Well why change cable - as it is problematic part of macbook. So new will serwe longer than allready used.
Great video, I followed this step by step with a new LVDS cable. I have an odd situation, when I turn on my MBP I can hear the chime and the keyboard lights up, however, the screen remains black (no power) and the apple logo on the back is also off. I then force turn off and turn on and the MBP runs normally with a working screen. This is fine until it goes into sleep mode and trying to wake it, the screen remains black. That is one situation. Every now and again, when I turn it on, it will either glitch with heaps of vertical lines on the screen, or have a grey stage light effect around the outer edges of the screen. This is an older MBP 15' (late 2013), but as a student I can't afford to replace it at the moment. I don't believe it is an LCD issue, as when it works the screen is crystal clear. Any advice would be helpful. Once again, good video.
@@ItsBinhRepaired Thanks for the quick reply. I should mention as well, when I plug into an external monitor it works fine. For both HDMI and display port. Would it still be a GPU issue?

Hi, sir. My a1398 MBP screen goes black after a while of usage. Sometimes it turns on and before booting, it goes black screen but I still see the keyboard light come on after it fully boots. Could it be the flex cable because I just placed an order for it?

If you have a screwdriver set, find what fits best with minimal wiggling. Not every set is built the same I noticed. I've been using the ifixit set and the bits are a lot more precise, so the ph or jis 0 works.
@@ItsBinhRepaired hm weird, I've tried the ph0, ph00, jis0 and jis00 and they've been to big. I just ordered a ph 000 and I hope that'll work out. Maybe the MBP 15" Mid 2014 is a little different?
