I'm homeless right now and its the most demeaning and depressing situation anyone could be in. Having no stability, no home, nothing to look forward to after work. I've been staying in cheap motels to avoid the streets but that eats up all my money and I'm trying to save up for a place but most landlords want first, last and security plus application fees before you can move into a place and saving up is hard when you're paying for a storage shed, motel room, food, phone payment etc., so the constant struggle just repeats itself. It really sucks knowing there are Actors, Rappers, TH-camr's etc.. making millions a year while a massive chunk of the population is barely making enough to survive on. Destitution Is at an all time high right now & I wish there was more affordable housing for everybody. If you could just pay the first months rent to move in to a place without the last and security deposit, I think there'd be a lot less ppl on the streets.
Detroit has so many abandoned houses which could be used for housing for the homeless. It could give some work to homeless people too, fixing up or cleaning the old houses.
He should just squat some house too have place too sleep and then move forward with finding job and renting some small place to get out of this situation.... it will be easier now when winter is ower
It seems a very good idea to me. I don't understand the criticism in the other comments. How can this be called socialism? This is capitalism and it fits perfectly in the present economy. Only a dem mayor would reject this plan because they want to perpetuate homelessness and poverty.
I was homeless in LA for 7 years. I'm back East now, and things are considerably better. But life is still brutal. I just want to say something important. Nobody, regardless of what their situation is, or what bad personal choices they made for themselves, or whether or not they are an addict, alcoholic, mentally ill, or if they served in the military or not... NONE of those things should be a criteria for how you judge them, or whether or not you think they're worth helping or not. Because you shouldn't judge them at all. Nobody comes into the world wanting this for themselves, or consciously choosing this for themselves. Yet, people who have never been homeless think that people on the streets chose that life for themselves, and insist that it's obviously true that they did. They did NOT, no matter what choices they have made in their lives. That's what everyone needs to understand. People who have not experienced homelessness directly for themselves do not understand it at all, and that is YOUR responsibility. It is not the responsibility of the homeless to explain themselves to you. This is a societal problem. Not a personal one. It's your responsibility to make an effort to get educated because even if you think there's no way... this can happen to YOU tomorrow... just like THAT. Even though you may think this doesn't affect you in your personal life. It does. I know most of the people commenting here mean well, and genuinely feel something for this guy. It's a miracle he hasn't perished in a Detroit winter, and that he's still here to bless the world with his presence... and he truly is a blessing. It's tragic that he doesn't know it, or feel that way about himself. It's not funny, it's not something to pass judgment on or laugh at, or to comment on your surprise that the person actually has a brain or can speak well. Yeah, surprise. I was a homeless, "throw away child" in the seventies. Writing about it now. No child should ever have to fend for themselves. Survival becomes your only mode of thinking. It was hard to shift from survival mode to thinking like others do... Good luck young man. Good luck to all who don't have a door of their own. 💝
@Daniel Sanchez Firstly, I'm highly intelligent so that's your first question answered. Secondly, simply typing "he's not a child" conveys nothing, to nobody. Thirdly, if you have at the very least watched a few of these videos you should be somewhat informed on why and how people become homeless. Trauma, childhood abuse, lack of a support system, mental illness, PTSD from abuse or war. This is why people end up on the street. You are willfully ignorant. What's more you seem like someone who is full of his own self pitty with no room in your head for knowledge or room in that swinging weight in your chest for compassion. I have no more time or inclination to educate you.
Watching these videos enlightened me to the cycle of being homeless in that one rarely gets out of the cycle and remains homeless or dead. These people have become disposable in our insane culture. A society is judged on how it treats those in need. The verdict is in for our country. Shame.
I feel for Matty. He really just wants to do the right thing and become stable as most people interviewed on this channel. But being in Detroit only makes his situation worse due to the extremely cold weather in the winter time which can make it a life or death struggle each and every day. Our system like in so many other ways, doesn't want to help people who are coming out of jail. Money interests view these people as disposable and it only makes them want to disavow the system even more.
So true about money. I’ve seen elsewhere that incarceration needs to be about rehabilitation. Instead no transition getting out? Life is MENTAL warfare and I think we need to get stronger - quickly! It’s ironic that governments, developers, some people are “addicted” to money at all costs - yet they judge those who *may* have substance abuse. The hypocrisy is too much....

You can almost see the regret in his eyes for being a youth traveler. There's no doubt that decision led to where he's at now. Instead of joining the military or pursuing education he chose that route. I'm in that same boat. I want to see the world and I'm in my early 20's but I know I'd end up dead or homeless.
I sincerely hope that this young man made it off the streets. I pray that he took advantage of any program that can might have helped him reach his goal to find a job, housing, leave Detroit and build a "normal life". There are so many good people, from every walk of society that are trying their best to eradicate this imbalance of housed and homeless. You have shown many of these incredible people on your channel Mark, from many places in the world. Bless you and the work that you do.
I have let many homeless people in my home. From kids to adults. I have been lied to,stuff stolen and cussed out. As long as I am able I will always help if I can. I have a huge home and eternally grateful. My family thinks I am nuts. But I am the first one they run to when they need something.

But to people here and people who care, and especially to God, my heart pours out to people like Matty. God bless him and give him a home, work and the chance to live a normal life. 🙏❤
Many homeless are home by choice. They don't want to go to the centers for homeless that are there for them. They want to drink and get high and they can't do that in a homeless center so many won't go to homeless shelters and choose the streets. If a homeless person wants help there is many people and agencies to help most do not want help.
@@working2bselfsufficient724 Most homeless are afflicted with mental illness which includes addiction. Many of the homeless are veterans who served our country. The system is not equipped to handle the numbers of the homeless. Be a good person and get educated on this plague and stop blaming the victims.
When it was reported that Trump once drove through a poor Black neighborhood and said “Only Blacks could live like this”. Then he talked about not wanting immigrants from “shithole countries” come to the US. Statements like that tells you everything you need to know about Trump. He has no empathy and compassion for anyone. Doesn’t even care about taking away millions of Americans healthcare.
@@scottmckenzie5476 I am actually very educated on the topic being physically disabled myself. I see and talk to everyone homeless doesn't matter to me as far as judging a person goes. What I'm telling you is over 90%+ are addicts and you cannot go to a homeless shelter and do drugs and drink so most choose not to go. That's a fact don't tell me I need to get educated about something I know quite a bit about. I donate and help the homeless and less fortunate with food and money since I'm fairly gifted in those areas. I agree many are mentally I'll but that doesn't change the fact they are choosing to not go to stay in homeless shelters. How do you think it should be solved and what do think we can do to help? Force them into treatment? Jail to sober them up? Or enable them by making accommodations so they can continue to be addicts while also receiving housing, food, and healthcare from tax payers? As far as military vets go yes there are some homeless and it's sad. The VA and many military groups are there for them if they will accept help. Military vets have the easiest way to get off the streets by contacting any of the vet groups and they always help each other. Most do not want to bother people or be bothered or have too much pride to ask for help. Out of the vets homeless many have PTSD etc but what do you propose we do to help? There is enough beds and shelters for almost every single homeless person in the USA but they cannot abuse drugs or alcohol there so they choose not to go. How do you fix that? If you don't believe me or think I'm ignorant to our homeless population go talk to them I do almost daily and that's how I know many choose not to receive help out of addiction or mental illness which we have closed almost all the mental assylums where we used to force people to treatment. Unless we force people to change they will not and I'm not ok with using force on people that are choosing their lifestyle. There is help for homeless everywhere most won't accept it but somehow you think that's either not true or I have 0 idea about homeless which is pretty naive of you to assume something especially when your not correct. So what do you propose to fix homeless?
Most homeless are vets, and to say he hasnt done anything for vets would be ignorant. Under obama vets where dying from lack of care ...lets not pick and choose subjects to blame our current president on when they have always been there.
It's absolutely amazing to me that there are people in this comment section that have been homeless themselves, like I and so many others have, and they're judging this man... whose name is Matt. How could you possibly do that? Please don't. Just don't. God bless us all.
Homeless is a state of mind. What makes people houseless is the system and land laws. There is pleanty of space on this earth for all of us, there should be places where people can set up tents legally and start communities so they have shelter and can be self sufficient.
One thing I noticed is he said "it was hard" to wake up at 6 and work til 7. I agree that is hard, but that's how you get out of the bad situation. Then at the end he says he just wants a normal job..so I think he might be a little scared of hard work
I would tend to think a thirty year old man would prefer a good living wage instead of a minimum wage job in broken down, high taxes Detroit. Let's face it, 65% of his salary would go straight to Rent, and as a result he would never ever get ahead. Period! It's good he's considering moving South especially in this worsening economy. I pray he makes it safely.
I know the feeling! Literally worked 3 jobs (1 seasonal, and 2 p/t) simultaneously while living in my vehicle. It can be done! TIP: Showers 🚿 are available at most truck stops, just don't make a big production of, don't be loitering around, just get IN , wash yo' ass, & get OUT! And don't be panhandling at the truck stop or you can forget any chance of a hot shower🚿😔👍

@Sophia Anatolios I agree, and thank you. But this is exactly what I mean. The term "lazy druggy". Of course, people have to take responsibility for themselves. But there's judgment there. And you were homeless. There's a reason why a lazy druggy is a lazy druggy, and it's not just on them. It's a symptom of a much much bigger problem both within the individual, and within society. I so appreciate your comments, and wish you a wonderful day, and a happy and healthy life. God bless.
@Sophia Anatolios Wow. Thank you. This is why we all need to talk to each other. I'm tearing up right now. I'm so sorry you went through that. I am TRULY sorry. I had sort of an opposite experience. There's alcoholism in my family. Not just me (drugs are part of my story too) others in my family have struggled as well. But my family are well off. They are privileged, pampered, insensitive, aloof, self-centered, self-righteous, and cruel. Obviously I have a lot of anger. But that is all true. With privileged white families, if you have any weakness or failure at all, you get cut out like a cancer, and discarded like a piece of trash. The funny thing is... my family don't even think they're privileged. They just don't see anything. Anyway... I completely understand why you feel the way you do. Please don't be hard on yourself and call it a weakness. It's a wound, and it's profound and real, and I'm sorry you were hurt in that way. And you should, and God bless you for it. By the way, he has a name. His name is Matt. Did ANYONE retain that??? But even in some of these supportive comments there's a lot of judgment going on. I'm sorry, but that is the sickness that society, and every last one of us, has in regards to how we treat and view other human beings. We have no right to judge, and it hurts you as much as them, and makes you just as unhealthy as they are. Please don't judge. Please don't. This is horrific. It's a testament to Matt's strength, and will to live, that he is not dead. Homeless people are real PEOPLE too, and are educated, dynamic, heroic, creative, honest, courageous, strong, loving, and so much more. This affects you as much as it does them. God bless us all.

She was telling her story of when she was a child.
@Daniel Sanchez Teach you how to read, Dude? You just have to read what she wrote.
@Daniel Sanchez good point. Alot od them don't wanna be helped and you can't help those
God Bless You, Matty 💜
Watching these videos enlightened me to the cycle of being homeless in that one rarely gets out of the cycle and remains homeless or dead. These people have become disposable in our insane culture. A society is judged on how it treats those in need. The verdict is in for our country. Shame.
@ⅰи∂ㄩㄅ360 Unfortunately true.
Wow , stuff like this makes me feel soo ungrateful. . I constantly complain about my job. My house ..My boring life ... I wish this guy the Best for the future .. Hope he gets the help and support he needs . Much love from New Zealand 💜

You can almost see the regret in his eyes for being a youth traveler. There's no doubt that decision led to where he's at now. Instead of joining the military or pursuing education he chose that route. I'm in that same boat. I want to see the world and I'm in my early 20's but I know I'd end up dead or homeless.

Seems like a nice guy. I wish him the best xx
It's absolutely amazing to me that there are people in this comment section that have been homeless themselves, like I and so many others have, and they're judging this man... whose name is Matt. How could you possibly do that? Please don't. Just don't. God bless us all.
I know, it makes me so mad. Jesus was homeless.
Homeless is a state of mind. What makes people houseless is the system and land laws. There is pleanty of space on this earth for all of us, there should be places where people can set up tents legally and start communities so they have shelter and can be self sufficient.
He's nice and very attractive. I hope he can change this situation
I would open my home for him an others who would better appreciate what I have
I commute 2 hours every day, to and from via a bus. Good to hear that he is now ok.
The interviewer has a concern for homeless people; and the homeless man-all that he wants is to have a normal life.

I've hurt my family and friends with my addictions, and I'll be struggling with that the rest of my life, as will they in their lives. I really appreciate you and your responses. Thanks, Sophia.
