I'm bringing my service dog to school for the first time in January! Ive been working on getting her to school for 3 years now so its very exciting. Glad your day went well!
@natpoo2031 Thank you for the well wishes! Unfortunately bringing her got postponed another month, and then the school decided to refuse to let me bring her because they can't visibly SEE my disabilities (I have PTSD and POTS). And then, they could see my disability the next day because they triggered the worst panic attack I've had in my life and I probably needed to go to the hospital. They have even seen my dog work because I brought her on multiple feild trips, including Carowinds and an overnight feild trip without an issue. Yet, they still refuse to let me have my medical equipment.
I remember my girls first day of school, August last year and she directly snoozed minutes later and I was so wow. She ignored people nice, today its harder for her bc she loves my classmates (she's a lab) She loves school tho and I'm glad, I was afraid it would be too much
Arkiess is incredibly people friendly too! That’s the hardest part for her lol, ignoring all of the people that want to say hi to her. I was shocked by how good she did too!! She actually loves going to school now.
I can’t believe how annoying it must be in a public school with a service dog, teachers AND students can be so annoying when It comes to people with invisible disabilities and I know since I have two, I can’t fathom how much worse the attention would be with a service animal I hope your school days do much better
And it's so scary cus like I don't want to be stared at and looked and judged at xus I have a service dog like no and I've been out of school for 4 years so going back is super hard for me SO THANK YOU FOR SHOWING it's not as bad as I thought it be
Some of the kids were being so obnoxious, Argiouse seemed to do well though. That was a really pretty vest you had her in is it from Etsy? I think I’ve seen a similar one. How did you attach a guide handled to it?
Hi, I’m a soon to be handler and I’m scared because we have a lot of disrespectful and ableist kids in my school, their is one who said that if I get a service dog that she’s going to pet it and I told her no but what should I do (the reason this girl I’ll call a knows I’m getting one is because I talk to my friends and she hangs out with us, she’s a super fake friend- she threatens, touches and annoys us all the time) what should I do? Should I talk to the principal about placing consequences or something?
ik this was months ago but how did u dye your service dogs fur!! i really want to dye my new up and coming service dog and ive been thinking about getting a black service dog since black dogs arent adopted as much but im not sure how to dye them, ive seen dog safe kits with bleaching agents to help dye black dogs from omegpaws but i wanna make sure that isnt the only option!
I recently started school with my sd. The first day was awful. My school is filled with assholes that thought they were entitled to my dog. Some even tried to trample his tail. My campus has three buildings, three stories. They give us a minute to get to class or you’re counted as absent and receive lunch detention. It sucks, because my backpack is full of junk that is “required” that I can’t even lightly jog. My sd also struggles to climb up the stairs and go down the stairs. My Science teacher also doesn’t like my dog,and says I’ll probably fail during lab experiments and dissections because my dog can’t be included. I’m not sure what to do,any advice?
Sweetheart they CAN NOT do that to you. The ONLY place that they can say no service dog is in the O.R. I have a service dog as well and people here(small town) know that they need to let my service dog in as well
Thank you sm for fillming this hole exsprence I might be going to school with my sdit next year or next semester idk yet but thank you fro filming this I have been so stressed out about tacking him since I also live in florida and it's just insane and I'm just so scared that so many people will pet him and diatract him and bully me etc so thank you so much for filming thsi it means alot to me so I can see it's not that bad I hats some people's reaction to arkiess it's annoying as shit people act like they have never seen a dog before
i have a question, how long did it take for training to get up to going to school with her? i have a sdit and he’s extremely good around people but will sniff/ approach if approached by someone else. he is a year, still a puppy, any tips for people approaching and puppy talking to the service animal?
Hey! Not the creator but I might be able to offer some help. My SD is a year old border collie and he's going to school with me for the first time in like a month. He's been training since he was a puppy. I would check with your state laws because here SDITs are considered SDs and can therefore attend school with me. Check with your counselor to see if you can add your SD to your IEP/504. Hope this helps!
I use the flat collar for the “Do Not Pet” label, and I brought and used both the prong and e collar because it was her first day and I wasn’t sure about which one was going to be used most, so to be save I brought both. Now, she only uses the e collar and her flat, sometimes not even the e collar. I try to always bring it, but it’s not a big deal if I forget it at home.
For us, it went away eventually, but there’s one kid that never stopped. One day he saw my friend petting her and asked if he could, and I told him that he could only pet her if he stopped barking at her and he hasn’t done it since then lmao Some kids still do, but it’s not a common occurrence anymore
Id be like Jesus christ there a dog omg I'm going to die sarcastically if ppl react like that i don't talk often and if thats there reaction id nit answer bec id be so tired of talking
"be the better man. Ignore it" w man
Safe to say, I definitely do not miss highschool 😅

Thankfully it's the last week of school and then I'm going off to the high school so mabye it will be better
Lmao the sound question was really interesting to listen to them argue
So glad your first day went well!!
I’m glad it went well too! It definitely could’ve been better, but it also could’ve been worse.
The sound and vibrations discussion in the background was hilarious ngl :’)

Definitely ask for accommodations! We take the elevator, and have extra time to get to each class

@@AdventuresWithArkiess ohhh that makes sense!! Thank you!:D
If you don’t mind me asking what job does your service dog do?
Medical alert/response, psychiatric alert/response, and mobility assistance :)
How do you keep kids from barking at you in school I’m having a huge issue with that
