Unfortunately, money talks. Despite how many of us don't care about live action remakes, they make a lot of money somehow. Plus, original films have been performing poorly.
They managed to do what Disney has failed to do so many times. They managed to bring an animated animal to live action without it looking creepy or emotionless.
I'm truly convinced they're even using the same rigging of the original film because Toothless animations are the exact same. I'm so exhausted of these live action remakes.

I wish they didn’t take out the little, hesitant motion Toothless did first, before the nose pat. It was small, but it said a lot about his thought process.
Fun fact- That hesitation was actually an error one of the animators did, when they reviewed it they keep it in for the reason you stated, it added emotion to the scene
And they seem to be doing basically a shot for shot remake. I mean why not, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Too many of these movie companies try to remake it in their own way and end up ruining the live action. This seems fine

Nah, instead they should focus on remaking Bad or mediocre Films, giving them a second chance at being great. things like monster house for example, things that had some very good parts, but were dragged down by the rest.
While I don't have much of an issue with this version, this just made me realize how incredible the animation was 15 years ago. So many shots in the animation seem to have just as much detail and look just as good as live action
The Toothless motions are so similar to the original that I really believe they're even utilizing the same rigging. I've had enough of live-action remakes.
I guarantee you they are not even remotely using the same model, rigging or materials. Referenced it sure, but this is 100% made for this film. Any clue how far this technology has come since the last film? This will be utilizing the lastest and most up to date 3d software has to offer. And that old rigging is rubbish. It can't handle most of what can be done now. They have done a very good job of matching the movement style. Potentially they played back the old rig and exported it to a motion capture format, then imported it to the new model and retargeteded the the key joints on the new to at least drive some base model movements.

It's a blatant cash grab. Hollywood has become a cesspool that just regurgitates the same things over and over but with increasingly diminishing quality
The problem with not making it faithful is people would rather moan about every single detail of it that was changed and was made unfaithful rather than actually watch the film
