GHOST singer Tobias Forge sits with Sam Dunn for an interview about his influences including the Devil, Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath, Ghost's place in the future of metal - and why he's still doing this filmed behind a curtain even after he's been "unmasked."

Hands down, the best interview, with an interviewer, who did not interrupt Tobias. Listened to what he had to say and cared about the musican and was very knowledgeable of him and their music.
One music lover talking to another music lover who happens to also make his own music.

that tiny moment where tobias referred to the cardinal as "cardi" made me insanely happy. it also totally confirms he definitely lurks online for ghost discourse. hail cardi c! and the papas and of course, tobias.

Well he made a youtube documentary about the History of Metal Spanning from Black Sabbath to Nightwish maybe even Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine
I’ve seen all of Sam’s public available work. He’s educated and to the point. Unlike many interviewers now days, he just interviews like fan. The teenager who fell in love with the music is tamed through the adult who conducts the question maturely and joyfully. I like his interviews.
He's pretty solid but nothing spectacular and considering how much shit passes as an interview, I am happy with this.
Nothing but the utmost respect for Sam and company. So many interviewers are interrupting air heads with limited attention spans. (Looking at YOU Chelsea Handler)
The difference isn't just that he's a fan.
It's that this whole metal empire started as an anthropology project, so he also has an innate curiosity to see what makes people tick, as well as ask "why?"
When two passions can feed into each other so well, it makes for some excellent content.

Excellent interview. Tobias seems like a very interesting, well education, spoken person. The character that he portrays just works. I would love to see a full length movie on Tobias and Ghost.

Tobias did all of the interviews as A Nameless Ghoul so there are a lot of good interviews with him from the past as well.

I grew up Finnish/Swedish in Minnesota. And the accents are really "fresh" if thats an appropriate word for it. And in Finland they require language versatility, and I am sure Sweden does the same.
A wasted opportunity for a good shadow puppet show, but still a great interview.
As a musician and someone who grew up loving the same material from the bands that he loves, this man is MY hero.
I love how reserved he is personally yet how explosive he can be once he gets on stage.
Whether you like Ghost or not, this is a great interview and I have a huge amount of respect for Tobias. Plus, his English is better than a lot of English-speakers. Props!

One of the great traits that puts Ghost above most Metal bands (from my semi professional musician perspective) is that they incorporate great melodies and harmonies with their music.
They don't just get up there and vocally bludgeon you with growling, screaming, and shrieking.
You can’t compare this type of metal with death/blackmetal.
This has to be my favorite interview with Tobias. The way he talks,when he's finding the right words. His take on making music, his view on making a show and the future of music. It's hard not to feel a pretty great level of respect for the guy. And all those things just make me enjoy his music even more. :D
Tobias is so smart, and well spoken, I really admire his qualities. Plus he seems to be interested in any form of art.
Awesome, just awesome. A lot of metal elitists shit on Ghost but i genuinely love what they do. I am so glad Tobias mentioned Queen and the Doors, those are obvious and great influences.

@@LCRLive687 I'm talking fans, not fellow musicians. I know how popular Ghost is among their contemporaries. Those fans though who seem to think that they are the be all and end all of what is and isn't "metal enough" are everywhere, and they are the absolute worst.
Even tho i didn't love the last album, they're still one of the best metal bands working today.
It's okay. We know those "metal elitist's" like Ghost undercover. They feel like they have to stay really hard and hard. I personally don't consider Ghost as today's metal anyway.
I could sit all day and just listen to Tobias Forge speak his wisdom to me. Such an interesting person.
Him and so many others. Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and Alice Cooper (not necessarily in that order) at the top of my list, along with Mr. Forge.

I can't disagree, honestly. I've been noticing some incredible lyricism lately, and a ton of it comes from Swedish bands.
I've had Transatlantic Blues by The Night Flight Orchestra on a repeat a bunch lately, that opening verse is fucking poetry.
@@xdeathsrk In many countries other then the states, you learn a second language from a very young age, if you practice it regularly, you can become perfectly fluent and keep working on your vocabulary. Most Swedish probably don't speak english that well, for sure.
I'm from Finland and I guess both countries teach English pretty closely as much but damn our pronunciation is closer to Hydraulic Press Channel than what Tobias here does!
When I read Opeth's lyrics I start to think that I don't know shit about English.
A very good interview, possibly the very best I’ve ever seen. Intelligent questions asked and then time given for coherent answers. Extremely well done on both sides. This should be the template for all interviews, the main stream media could learn how it should be done.

my first thought after ending
I saw this comment at the start of the interview and was like "ok, we'll see..."
Then I just listened to it very fascinated and when they started to wrap it up I was like "hey, is it over already?!"
Best interviewer of metal artists. Period. I love his interviews, reviews and documentaries. So knowledgeable, so well researched and very informative.
My God I absolutely love this man! Tobias Forge is one of the most intelligent, kind and down to earth people in music. This is the best interview I've ever seen, Banger TV you guys are awesome.

Great interview, I only recently started listening to Ghost, but I've gone out of my way to watch every video, listen to every album and I plan to go see them live in August.

He is, and the reality is there are bands coming up like The Struts and Greta Van Fleet. Bands that you've also never heard over with kids in the 20s. Love them and cherish them. Listen to them, and give them a chance. I'm in a Punk band that takes a shit ton from Motorhead. I think Rock really needs to pretend the 90s didn't fucking happen.

I’ve never heard of this guy or even listen to rock but was suggested for some weird ass reason. I prob still wont even listen to Ghost or this style music but I think it’s cool he speaks so passionately about his influences and carrying on the style.

Their latest album is AMAZING. There isn't a dud on the album, and it's so mesmerizing that you are compelled to listen to it in its entirety each time you play it.

Ghost is one of the few bands that "grew on me". I did not like them at all when I first heard them. And I'm a long time rocker/ metal head. I kept hearing people talk about how great they are so I kept going back to listen. Now I listen to them a lot.
So happy to hear Tobias intends to achieve much more in the years ahead...I can’t get enough Ghost! 😈

great interview. im 37 and ive been waiting for this band. i grew up with pantera and marilyn manson and they fill the void many groups have not in the past decade. Tobias is much like Trent Reznor in the fact hes a musician through and through. if only Peter Steele and Tobias Forge could have met.

I'd like to know Tobias thoughts on Blue Oyster Cult as they seem to have a big influence on Ghost and their my favorite classic rock band.
I'd love to know this too esp in a non accusatory way. First i ever heard Ghost in 2013 i immediately thought "oh it's like BOC but heavier" i wonder what Tobias would say to this.
Absolutely...
It almost feels like interviewers are avoiding it. Like it's on par with telling Greta Van Fleet that they sound like Zeppelin. The difference is that GVF are using the first two Zeppelin
albums with little to nothing else as their foundation. Ghost's sound is constantly evolving picking up new elements with each album. However, Ghost retains that mystique
aesthetically and lyrically that's so much in common with BOC. Ghost's first two albums were much closer to the BOC archetype though. So, I don't think bringing that comparison
up now would have anywhere near as much of a negative connotation than it would've in 2013. Plus, Tobias was totally cool with the Sabbath comparison.

I hope BOC sees a resurgence in interest as the word gets out about the similarity! I have been following BOC since 1976! Ghost has given me a new genre of groups (Swedish) to explore and listen to! Can’t wait to see them in concert!

I love what he says about Black Sabbath's albums. I love the first three albums. Paranoid being my second favorite album of theirs. But my all time favorite Sabbath album since I was about 16 years old (I'm 54 now) is Sabotage. I absolutely love that album. Vol 4 and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath are great as well.
I was really, really, REALLY waiting for Tobias's entire head to come forward when he went for the handshake... it would be pure Ghost, absurdist humor.

This Interview should be longer. The Interviewer is very good. Just found ghost and I'm not into the whole devil Satanist aspect of there image but I do enjoy some of their songs. Tobias is a very good spoken guy. Very interesting man.
Think of listening to an album or going to a concert of Ghost like experiencing a Broadway musical. Theatrics, characters with a backstory. Too many people take it way too seriously or literally. Pick apart the lyrics and find the underlying meanings. Most of it is a commentary on humanity and the current culture. One of my favorite songs, Jigilo Har Meddigo, is basically about fuck boys.
I don't take the Satan thing seriously, it's about theater and trying to be interesting and a little dangerous for the audience. Everyday is like Halloween for Ghost. I liked the parallel to Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper, same exact thing. Although some fans are always going to want to make more out of it and do crazy shit unfortunately. Hope not though.
10:03 about that theme of the “Future of Rock and Metal”.....people just keep making the music you like, don’t worry about the next coming years...enjoy the music...people will like it or not...the important thing is that you’re passionate about what you do, if it makes you happy IT WILL WORK!
